"Did you invite Tom?" I press my best friend, Michael. I stand next to him as he reaches for a can of pop from the fridge. I asked him earlier today to invite Tom over to our apartment today, I wanted to hang out with him without seeming creepy. We're not really good friends, so I always spend time with him along with Michael.

"Yes, I invited Tom." He informs me with sarcasm clearly his tone.

"No need to be rude."

"I'm not being rude, but your obsession with him is a little annoying at times."

"I am not obsessed with him!" I gasp, upset at his words.

"Whatever, (Y/N)."

"Are you jealous that your best friend has another guy in her life besides you?" He looks at me surprised. I raise my eyebrows, curious to hear his answer.

"Uh... No, I.. I-"

"You better get used to it, Latta." I roll my eyes and sit on the couch in the living room.

"I'm not jealous." He states and sits down next to me.

"I beg to differ." I joke, laughing at my words.

"I'm being serious."

"Fine, then you won't mind me constantly asking you to invite him everywhere." He looks frustrated.

"Fine, but you can't talk about him all the time to me. You have other friends." He turns on the TV, flipping the channels.

"I didn't know it bothered you that much." He stays silent, but I continue. "I guess I just always came to you about these things because you know me better than all my other friends. I just wanted your advice. I'm sorry."

"(Y/N), you don't have to apologize. It's just hard to see you like a guy so much, especially since it's my best friend. And even though he's my best friend, I know you can do much better."

"Why? What's wrong with him?" I press.

"He just isn't the type to have a girlfriend."

"So do you know of someone better?" His face turns red, obviously embarrassed.

"N-No, I.. Uh-"

"Then why can't I like him?"

"He's just not good for you, (Y/N)! Why can't you understand that?" He yells and I flinch. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell, I just... I don't know." He runs his hands through his hair.

"There's obviously something that you're not telling me, because I don't really see a reason how you could be this upset."

"Fine, (Y/N). I like you, alright?" He yells again, frustration in his voice. "I don't like to see you drooling over my best friend when I'm right there on the sidelines witnessing it all! Tom will cheat on you, I know he will! I can't watch that happen to you. Not when I'm right here to stop it." I sit there in shock as Michael is out of breath from pouring his heart out to me.

"I didn't know you liked me. You should have told me sooner." Silence builds between us before I break it. "I would much rather date my best friend than someone who would cheat on me."
He laughs, "Thanks for your sympathy." He says sarcastically.

"That's not what I meant. I want to date you. I really like you too, Latta." I smile and he looks up, giving me a reassuring smile.

"Really?" He asks. I nod my head and pull him into a hug.

"So you're over Tom now?" He asks me.

"Definitely."
