I check myself over in the mirror one last time before I head down the stairs to Max, my boyfriend of a few months. He's taking me to meet his family today and I am beyond nervous, but yet excited at the same time. I'm really interested to see where Max grew up.

I hesitantly walk down the stairs, my worry is apparent on my face.

"(Y/N), why are you frowning? You look gorgeous." He says as he pulls me into a hug at the bottom of the staircase.

"I am so nervous." I state and squeeze him a little tighter.

"You have nothing to worry about, they will love you. And if they don't, then there is obviously something wrong with them that I wouldn't have noticed before." He places a gentle kiss on my cheek and leads me into the car.

We arrive at his house and I feel like I'm going to be sick.

"Are you okay?" Max asks me after he parks the car in the driveway.

"No, I don't think so. Do you think you could possibly tell them that we couldn't make it?" I ask and he laughs.

"Trust me, (Y/N). Everything is going to be alright. I'll be there for you." He grasps my hand and brings my knuckles to his lips.

We eventually make it to the door, I tried to come up with a few more excuses to possibly persuade Max that we could leave, but unfortunately none of them worked.

"Max, oh my goodness! It's so good to see you!" A woman, who must be his mother, greets him and pulls him into a hug.

"It's good to see you too. Um, this is my girlfriend, (Y/N)." He introduces me and my heart race quickens as she turns to look at me.

"Hi, it's so nice to meet you." I say and offer my hand, but she doesn't shake it.

"It's nice to meet you too, dear." She says and begins to walk into the kitchen.

I give Max a confused look, but he just shrugs. "She's never really liked any of my girlfriends." He confesses and my jaw drops.

"Thanks for telling me! That would have been nice to know!" I say sarcastically.

"Calm down, it'll be okay."

The rest of the night is filled with rude remarks made by his mother towards me, but somehow I stay calm.

"Do you have a job?" She presses and I respond quickly.

"I'm in the process of getting one, I do have a few interviews this upcoming week, actually." I say and she looks like she almost spits out her food.

"So you're mooching off of my son, then?" She asks and I gasp.

"No, no. I have plenty of money saved up to last me a couple months until I'm employed." I take deep breaths, knowing I'll crack at any second.

"Max, how could you possibly let this unemployed woman take advantage of you like that? You know that there are more successful woman out there." She says.

"Mom, stop." Max commands and stands up from his seat at the dinner table.

Before anyone can say anything, tears start streaming from my face and I stand up and go outside, back to the car.

Soon after, Max follows me and gets into the driver's seat.

"(Y/N), I am so extremely sorry. She usually isn't that bad. That was so uncalled for and I really apologize. I gave her a few words myself." He confesses and I look up at him through my tear filled eyes.

He reaches up and wipes the tears on my cheek away, placing a kiss on my forehead.

"What happens if we end up together? Will she always hate me? If she does, will you hate me?" I say in between sobs.

"I could never hate you, and no matter what she thinks, or whatever anyone else thinks, I know that I love you and I always will. Don't let her get to your head." He says and kisses me. I weakly kiss him back, hoping that he will never leave.

"I love you, (Y/N)."

"I love you too."

"Let's go home and we can do whatever you want to." He says and I smile, knowing that he always will make me feel better.
