Remembrance

"Dan?"

"Dan!"

Dan opened his groggy lids to reveal hazel eyes.

He saw a figure hovering over him.

'What...?'

Rebecca swallowed as she saw his beautiful eyes. Her heart was racing madly in her chest.
She bit her lip.

She'd arrived a while ago and had been pleasantly surprised to see the food already prepared.
She'd asked Frederick if their cook had made it, but he'd replied in the negative.

'So...Dan cooked...for me?'

He sat up groaning.

"You're back, " Dan made out, running his hand tiredly through his chestnut hair.
Rebecca bit her lip at the action and her heart raced even more at the sight.

'She is going crazy.'

'This feeling...she needs it to stop.'

She knew he would never see her as anything other than the sister of the woman he loved.

And Rebecca hated that.

She wanted him to see her as...

'As what?'

Her eyes lowered.
'As someone, he would come to love...and respect.'

Rebecca watched him stand up and stretch. He faced her with a smile.

Rebecca almost had a heart attack.

"I made you lunch."
He quickly checked his phone.

"I guess it's dinner now." He chuckled placing a hand behind his head awkwardly.

"T-Thank you, it was delicious."
Rebecca gave him a fake smile.

"Really?" He said surprised.

Rebecca nodded.
"Hmm hmm."

He smiled.

Dan let out a sigh of relief.
"I'll head upstairs then. Goodnight."

"Dan, wait!" Rebecca held his arm.

Dan stopped and turned to her surprised.

She gulped.
'These eyes...'

Her own lowered.
"Um, I got a call from my dad this evening. He said he would be back tomorrow, hopefully before sundown, " Rebecca informed.

Dan's brows furrowed slightly.

'I guess it's time I left then.' He thought.

He was yet to tell her about Philip, about him leaving soon.

He'd been planning on leaving; first thing the next morning. He'd already packed his things.

"It's fine, " he said, looking into her ice-blue eyes and for a moment, Dan was drawn into them, for a split second, he was drawn into those beautiful blue orbs. He averted his eyes.

"I was planning on leaving soon anyway, " Dan said.

"W-What?" Rebecca said, surprised.

Dan looked at her.

"When were you planning on telling me?" She asked.

Dan could see the shock and disappointment in her eyes. He closed his eyes and sighed.

"It was out of the blue, but I've overstayed my welcome anyways, " Dan said quietly.

He could hear Rebecca's breath come out in quick puffs.
