"Dan?"

Dan opened his eyes and sat up. He looked around and saw himself in a dark void. There was nothing there.

"Who's there?" Dan called out.

He saw a figure move towards him and as they got closer, Dan's eyes widened when he saw their profile.

Dan stood and stared.

'Those eyes...'

Dan took a step and then another and then he was full-on sprinting.

Dan wrapped his arms around them and buried his face in their neck.

"It's okay, Dan." He heard the voice, her voice.

Tears fell down his eyes as he held her.

She caressed his hair.
"It's okay Dan, " she said quietly.

She pulled back gently and he looked at her. The pain in his eyes could not be hidden.

She smiled—it was a sad smile.

Lily held his hand and started leading him. Dan followed tightening his hand around hers.

The dark void opened up and a bright ray of white light permeated through.
Dan shielded his eyes with the other hand.

They both entered the light and the void shut behind them.

Dan's eyes widened at what was in front of them.

'It was a garden, a very beautiful garden.'

Dan was surrounded by green and all sorts of assorted colours of different flowers.

Two moths flew past his face. He looked ahead and his eyes widened.
'Was that a waterfall?'

Lily turned to him and smiled.

"Let's go."

Lily let go of his hand and ran forward giggling. Dan stared at her almost dazed as she got farther away from him.

When he didn't follow she stopped and turned to him.

"What's wrong Dan?" She questioned moving towards him.

He stared at his feet.
"You're not real, " he said quietly.

Lily stood in front of him, she had a sad look in her eyes.

"You're right, " she responded.

Lily reached for his hand and held it in hers.
Dan stared at her, he stared into her forest-green eyes.

He watched as she kissed his wrist and then looked back at him.

"Do you remember this?" She asked softly, referring to the time when her death was still fresh and he'd tried to take his own life.

The despair in his eyes was heartbreaking.

"I remember."

She held his hand in hers and led them both under the shade of an Olive tree.

Lily sat on the ground and she beckoned for him to do the same.

Dan sat beside her and none of them spoke for several moments.

"Why did you stick with me, Lily?" Dan asked after moments of not being able to hold it in anymore.

She turned to him.

"What do you mean?"

His eyes lowered and he stared at the grass underneath his palm. It was soft under his hand.
