Monse Finnie

First class of the day: Math. Honestly, who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to have kids do math early in the morning? No wonder why most of them failed it. It also didn't help that today was the first day of Junior year.

What did Monse do over the summer? Cry, pretty much. Over Cesar's ass. They were going on two years, but he ruined that. She forgave him though, but she couldn't forget.

Jamal and Ruby entered the room and sat with her, and unfortunately, Cesar was trailing behind them. He sat down and looked at Monse, but she didn't look at him at all.

"Hello, familia!" Jamal chirped. "How was your summer's?"

Ruby spoke first. "I spent the summer in Brentwood with Mario. Just taking care of my nephew, you know."

Yeah, Mario and his girlfriend Amber had a baby together last year. His name was Alejandro.

Jamal spoke next. "My parents and I went on a little va-cay. We had to get out of this damn neighborhood. It's so suffocating."

Monse shrugged. "As for me, I didn't do anything but work on my writing."

Cesar opened his mouth to speak. "And I-"

Monse quickly cut him off. "You don't need to answer that. We all know what you did this summer."

She had said that so harshly, and Cesar frowned at her. Ruby snickered at him. "We sure do."

Cesar sighed. "Monse, I said I'm sorry."

"I said that I forgive you."

"Then why are you still being petty?"

She tilted her head at him. "Because I can't forget."

"Damn..." Jamal muttered with a shake of his head.

Cesar sighed even more. He reached over and put his hand on top of hers. "Look, I fucked up. And-"

Jamal hastily removed his hand, and thank god he did because Monse was about to. "Nu uh, we're not doing this sentimental shit right now."

"We sure aren't." Ruby jerked his head at the door. "Look what the cat dragged in."

Latrelle and Coop came strolling in, and Jamal sucked his teeth. "Ugh, Latrelle. Coop's cool tho."

Monse couldn't care less about Latrelle, but Coop was cool. She always tried to flirt with Monse though, and Monse would tell her the same thing every time: she wasn't into girls. Coop was real determined to turn her out though.

"Hey, girl!" Coop exclaimed before kissing her head. Monse wiped the kiss off and she chuckled. "You'll come around one day."

No the fuck she wouldn't.

Coop focused on Jamal now. "Sup, Jamal." They did a secret handshake.

"Looking fresh to death, girl!" Jamal complimented.

Latrelle stared at Coop with admiration in his eyes. "Like I knew she would."

"I don't remember asking you," Jamal spat at him.
