MONSE FINNIE POV

NEXT DAY

I swung my bag over my shoulder and rushed downstairs. I entered the kitchen to say goodbye to my parents.

Mom looked at me. "There you are! I made breakfast for you!"

Yeah, I see the whole spread in front of me. Dad's already eating. "Thanks, but I don't have time to eat. I'm already running late."

"Well get going honey," Mom replied.

I will after this. "Dad, can I talk to you real quick?"

"What's up?"

"In private?"

Mom didn't like those words. "Private? We keeping secrets now?"

"It's nothing serious, mom."

It's hella serious.

Mom put her hands up. "Okay, I'll see myself out." She gave dad a kiss before she left.

Dad took a good look at me. "Based on your face, I'm guessing that this is serious after all."

"Sorta." I sat down. "Do you know Coop? Short dark skin girl? Dresses tomboyish?"

"Yeah I know Tamia Cooper. Why?"

"She needs protecting," I began.

"Protecting? What does she need protecting for?"

Time to sugarcoat the truth. "Well you seeee, she used to live with this dude but they have a lot of bad blood now, so she moved out and now he's trying to hurt her because of it."

Dad processed that information. "Okay...and what's this dude's name?"

"Um...I don't know."

"You don't know?"

"Nope." I popped the P. "Coop didn't tell me."

"Right."

I don't think he believes me at all.

He continued. "Well yes. We can keep an eye on her. It would be easier if I had a name though."

I continued lying. "I don't know his name and I don't know how he looks, so don't ask me that either! Okay bye!"

I quickly stood up and walked off, but he called me back. "MONSE!"

Shit.

I slowly turned around. "Yes?"

"Does this have something to do with you being on Prophet territory yesterday? With a ski mask?"

My heart dropped. How does he know that? "Y-you know about that?"
