The cool air bit at her skin making her shiver. Goosebumps formed on her skin as she stared at the ocean in front of her. Tears formed in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away.

"Hey," her eyes looked up to see his y'all figure sitting down beside her  in the sugary sand. She was quite and avoided eye contact. The silence between them was awkward and tense. She had not  been this close to him in 2 months.

"Why?" Was all that left her lips as she looked at him. she took in all the different things about him as she waited for his answer. His hair had gotten longer, his arms had gotten stronger, his skin was a little darker also. When he didn't answer she decided to say it again.

"Why did you want to meet here?" She asked grabbing a handful of sand. She watched as the sand fell through the small gap in my hand.

"I wanted to talk to you." He said shrugging.

She pushed her brows together in confusion, "you decided that after two months it would be nice to catch up?" She asked with sarcasm laced in her voice.

"No y/n," he said shaking his head and looking down at his lap. He placed his hands behind him to prop his body up. His long legs stretched out against the sand.

"I wanted to ask you if you would ever give me a second chance." he asked letting his eyes finally meet hers.

her heart stopped. she had waited for those words to escape his mouth for months, but he made her wait too long. it was too late.

"you don't know how long I've waited wanting you to say that, you don't know how long I loved you, or how many nights I laid in bed with tears flowing down my face wondering why you gave up on us. If you would of called me then and told me you wanted me back I would of been the happiest girl in the world," she sighed a small breath making a small cloud form in front of her lips, "but it's too late for that. The tears have dried and I'm finally happy without you." She stood up from the sand leaving him there looking up at her with sadness in his eyes.

"Goodbye Shawn." Was the last thing she said to him as she walked away out of his life. Shawn stood up, he wanted to stop her, but he knew it was no use. He wanted to scream and yell. He let the girl he loved slip through his fingers. His fingers rugged at the roots of his hair tightly.

"I was too late." He whispered to himself.
