Elevator

The cool crisp morning air woke me up as I made my way into work. The huge lobby with a chandelier hanging down was filled with interviewers, and paperwork needing to be done.

"Good morning y/n." One of my coworkers greeted as he made his way to his office. I gave him a small smile before stepping into the elevator that was unusually empty. Just as the metal doors were about to close I could see a tall man slip through them. I took my eyes off the various numbered buttons to see who was in the elevator with me. Once I recognized who it was I immediately regretted not taking stairs.

His dark brown hair was now styled in sort of a messy way showing of his curly locks instead of a perfect quiff like I remember, his wardrobe had changed from a flannel and kakis, to a black t-shirt covered by a dark leather jacket, black skinny jeans, and his beaten up black vans. He looked so different. It wasn't the same Shawn I remember.

"Y/n," his chocolate brown eyes met mine sending chills down my spine.

"Shawn," I managed to choke out.

"Y-you work here now?" He asked with wide eyes.

"Uh yeah. I've been here for about 2 years now." I said awkwardly.

"Oh." Shawn said looking away.

"Anyway, what floor?" I asked.

"6." He answered.

Damn it. Out of 20 floors, he has to get off on the same floor as me. I pressed the number and leaned against the railing.

"Glad to see that you got past your fear of-." The lights flickered above us and the elevator suddenly came to a halt. My whole body began to shake, and my breathing became unsteady.

"Y/n," I could hear Shawn call for me, but I couldn't move. I felt Shawn's arms wrap around me, and pull me close to him. I didn't even feel like fighting back, for some odd reason I felt safe in his arms. I laid my head against his chest and wrapped my arms around his torso.

"It's okay." Shawn said soothingly as he rubbed circles on my back.

Once I finally calmed myself down I got out of his grip.

"Well I was going to say that you got over your fear of elevators, but never mind." Shawn said laughing lightly as he sat down on the floor. I rolled my eyes and sighed.

"Of all people I get stuck in an elevator with you." I mumbled, but knew he could hear me.

"Ouch, that hurt." I could hear the sarcasm laced in his bitter voice.

"I should of just let you have a panic attack, and not do anything." Shawn said in a low tone.

"Why can't you ever just be fucking nice?" I asked looking over at him even though I could barely see him due to the darkness in the elevator. There was a small silence between us when I said this. I could hear shuffling, I figured Shawn was just standing up.

"Why did you break up with me?" I could feel his body close to mine. It was like he was breathing right on me. My breathing got caught in my throat, I didn't want to admit the reason to him. I thought he would of just let it go.

"Shawn you know-." He cut me off.

"No, don't tell me that it's because you had to. That's bullshit y/n, there's more to it, and I deserve to know." Shawn's voice was on the edge of breaking.

"Because I wasn't good enough for you Shawn! I wasn't pretty enough, funny enough, I wasn't good enough Shawn!" I broke down, I finally told him after 2 years. "That's why I broke up with you." As if it was on cue the elevator lights came back on showing how close Shawn's face was to mine.

"Why didn't you tell me you felt that way?" He asked in almost a whisper.

"I-i don't know Shawn, I thought it would just be better if I ended things. You were about to start tour also, and I thought you would be able to find someone better." I said stepping back a little leaving a bigger gap between us.

"I can't find someone better than you y/n." Shawn said as he stepped closer closing the space.

"Yes you can Shawn, I don't belong with someone like you." I argued as I shook my head.

"Don't say that, please don't ever think that." Shawn said looking into my eyes. His large, warm hands grabbed my mine. "I love you,  I don't want to find someone else." His hands fell from mine he cupped my cheeks, and leaned in causing me to slowly  close my eyes. The kiss was soft at first, but turned passionate quickly. It was something I have missed for 2 years, and I finally got it back.
