A/N: The diner mentioned in this chapter is an actual diner in SC. I don't know if anyone named Darren works there. I don't know anything about this place other than what I learned on google and I'm not being paid to mention it. I don't own any part of it. I just like to use real places in my stories.

Chapter 55 South Carolina

I had boarded an open train car when I found a train on some tracks. This train was to go north to the states. It would be the easiest way across the border since I no longer had my badge, my gun, and my phone was destroyed. All I wanted to do was call Spencer, I had given him a horrible scare and I couldn't get in contact with him yet. I was sure glad I had worn a bullet proof vest; I still had that damn thing on. My shirt was shredded, my jeans torn, my vest ruined, my shoes didn't even look like shoes anymore, my hair was a horrible rat's nest.

I settled myself in the car and allowed myself to doze as the car moved. It would probably be a few days before I was anywhere near DC. I had already been walking for a month. I hadn't been able to find a phone; I was too far out in the desert. As I dozed I wondered how Spencer was, what he was doing. I knew he would be a wreck and I hated being the cause of his pain. I woke up a few days later and I knew I was in the states but I didn't recognize what town. I got out anyway, I needed food and water, most importantly I needed to make a phone call.

I found a diner that was relatively empty, "Excuse me, sir?" I asked the guy behind the bar.

"What can I do for you ma'am?" he asked. He had a slight southern accent.

"Can you tell me where I am and can I use your phone please?" I asked.

"You're South Carolina, Charleston and of course you can use the phone," he said putting it up on the bar.

"Thank you so much," I said as he went back to the kitchen. I dialed Spencer's number and waited for him to answer.

"Now's not really a good time," he said.

"Wow, nice to talk to you too," I said trying to lighten the tension.

"Lea!"

"Hey hun, I'm so so so sorry that I gave you such a scare and that I wasn't able to call sooner." I could hear him starting to cry. "I'm okay hun, I'll be home in a few more days. I just wanted to call you."

"No, I'm coming to you. Where are you?" he begged.

"Charleston, South Carolina," I replied.

"I'm coming down there, where do I meet you? Please just stay where you are, please," he begged.

"I won't go anywhere hun, I'm at a dinner called the Lowcountry Bistro. I'll wait here for you."

"I got to call Garcia and your brother. Someone needs to watch your dog. Can I I call you when I land or even on the plane?"

"I think that would be okay with the owner, just as long as we don't use the phone all day. My cell was destroyed."

"I'm on my way, order whatever you want to eat, I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Just breathe hun, I'm okay seriously. I just need a bath and some company from my friends. You got that, just breathe," I said in the most soothing tone I could manage that most people called hypnotic. I just kept talking to him till his breathing was slow and even. "There you go hun, that better?" I asked.

"Yeah, thanks. I'm going to call Garcia and get a plane ticket and have Hotch come over to watch Eliot."

"You're welcome hun, be safe and I'll see you soon." With that Spencer hung up and I too hung up as the man I talked to earlier placed some water and food down in front of me.

"I thought you might be hungry, that was quite the conversation," he said.

"Thank you for the food and water and letting me use your phone. My friend may be calling back; he's coming down from DC to pick me up."

"You're welcome, my name is Darren by the way, yours?" he asked.

"Leandra," I replied pulling my food to me. The plate held two pancakes, two strips of bacon, two rolls of sausages, scrambled eggs, toast, biscuits and gravy. I ate slowly, not having had a proper meal since before I went undercover. "The food is wonderful, thank you," I said.

I spent hours in the diner slowly eating my breakfast and once in a while talking to Spencer on the phone, and ignoring the others in the room. I probably looked like I was homeless but didn't really care, I had been wearing the same clothes for four months and been in the desert and someone had tried to shoot me with a damn shot gun. I was pretty sure I had the right to look like something the cat had dragged in. "Lea!" a very familiar voice called and I turned to the door.

"Spencer!" I called back as he ran to me. Before I could even get up off the stool to run to him his arms were around me. I returned the hug instantly, "I'm okay hun, I just stink," I said causing him to laugh.

Spencer turned to the man behind the bar that I had been talking to all day and handed him some money, "thank you for letting her stay here till I could get here. Keep the change as my thanks," Spencer said holding me close.

"You're welcome, here's some food for the road. You have yourself a wonderful woman," Darren said shaking Spencer's hand. "There's a nice hotel just down the road, tell them I sent you and they'll set you up."

"Thank you Darren," I said smiling. "Next time I'm in town I'll stop by for a bite to eat." With that Spencer and I headed for the hotel. It would be nice to get cleaned up so I could go home and it would be nice to sleep in an actual bad.
