Chapter 52 Food Fight

Lea's POV

It had been a few months since my experimental treatment and I could see somewhat. I was now classified as legally blind. I could make out shapes and outlines and very bright colors, so Garcia's outfits. Spencer had been acting weird around me, like he was nervous, even though he drove me to work every day. Sometimes he even spent the night but he hardly said a word to me. I was sitting on the sofa knitting as he read and he kept shifting. "All right Spencer, what's on your mind?"

"Nothing," he said.

"You've been reading the same page for 15 minutes; you've barely said a word to me in the last few months and have been nervous around me like you're afraid of me. I may not be able to see well Spencer but I'm still a profiler. What's on your mind hun?" He shook his head and I moved to sit on the coffee table in front of him. He tensed like I was going to hurt him. "I'm not going to hurt you hun," I said holding my hand out to him and waited for him to take it.

He looked at my hand and I could see he wasn't sure if he should take it. "You have a question about my past?" I asked still holding my hand out to him. He nodded. "Could I have a hint or two as to what you're asking so I can give you an accurate answer?"

"You said that I was several steps up from your last boyfriend?"

"You think I was talking about Warlock?" He nodded. "Everyone does and I let them. I'm actually talking about someone who thought I was in a relationship with them. He was a real creep."

"Why do you let others think you're talking about Warwick?"

"No one believes that he was a good guy. The only thing that Warlock did to hurt me was kill himself Spence. Jeff couldn't even hurt me that badly. Jeff only broke my arm; my father broke most of my bones. Jeff didn't like hurting me either; I stood up to him unlike everyone else." He nodded again. "Does that answer your question hun?" He put his hand in mine and finally looked at me.

"Yeah, I couldn't figure out how I was several steps up from Warwick. From what you've told me he sounds like he was a gentleman. Much better than me."

"Spencer, I may have my standards but I won't compare you to others I've dated or expect you to meet the levels they rose to. That wouldn't be fair to you. Just be yourself, hun, it's too hard to be anyone else. You understand me?" I asked.

"Yes, thank you, Lea," he said as I rubbed my thumb over his knuckles. I pulled him into a hug.

"You're welcome, hun. You can ask me whatever you want about my past. I might say that I'm not ready to talk about it if it's something I'm sensitive about I may shout but I won't hit you." He pulled away from me and his stomach growled. "Come on let's go make dinner," I said pulling him to his feet. We ended up having a food fight while we were cooking. We couldn't stop laughing. I hadn't had a food fight since middle school. It was great.
