Chapter 9: Found Him

Two weeks later we had a total of 15 victims. Fifteen lives lost, each had a family of two to three other people, 45 lives destroyed, and the lives of the friends of the victims. Not to mention the lives of the friends and family of the killer, and his life to would be destroyed because of his actions. More than 60 lives had already been ruined. How many more would be destroyed or lost before we caught our killer? The locations of the dump sites had been changing with each new victim: alley ways, ditches, abandoned structures. None of these places were upper class places. The victims were being thrown out like trash and there was a new one every few days.

He was devolving fast. He was no longer taking organs but he was doing other forms of torture. How many more would he take with him before we caught him? All of the victims were students so Garcia was running a check on everyone in the university. It was a long list so she wasn't done yet. "Hey Leandra, you all right?" I looked up to see Spencer standing next to me.

"Yeah, just thinking. All these victims are about my age and we look alike so it hits a little close to home," I replied. Suddenly Spencer's phone rang, it was Garcia. Hopefully, she would have some answers for us. She did, we had an address. A victim had managed to hang on to her phone and had called 911. The line was still open so hopefully, she was still alive. We all ran out to the SUVs and pulled on our bulletproof vests on the way.

Our profile still said only one killer, but we had yet to determine the gender of the killer, though most likely male. I got into the one my brother was driving, Spencer sliding into the seat beside me. Rossi sat beside Aaron, Morgan was driving the other one. We followed Garcia's directions which led us out of the city and into the countryside. Within 20 minutes we were outside an abandoned barn.

I got out and formed a half circle with the others. Whatever plan we came up with would probably involve me talking to this guy, since I looked so much like our victims. "We surround the building, everyone go in pairs. Reid and Leandra, JJ and Prentiss, and Rossi and I will go together." I nodded to my brother and unholstered my gun and followed Spencer around the side, heading for the back door.

The girls followed us and took a side window, Aaron and Rossi took the front and the locals took the other side with Morgan. Medics had come with us. In my com piece, I heard my brother count to 3 for us to kick in the door. I took the lead at Spencer's insistence. I broke down the door and everyone swarmed the building, looking for any signs of life. It was dark, just like outside as the sun had set. I stopped walking, stopping Spencer behind me. I called for everyone else to stop all movement.

I felt a funny vibration through the ground, it was too strong to be someone walking or running and too weak to be a train. It was a car coming right at us. "Everyone hug the walls, NOW!" I shouted grabbing Spencer's wrist and ran to the far wall just as a 1980's Camaro came crashing through the door I had kicked down. "Morgan, take out the engine block!" I shouted before I shot at the tires.

Morgan did as I asked bringing the car to an immediate stop. Morgan rushed the car yelling, "Get out of the car! Get out of the car!" He pulled our unsub out and cuffed him.

"Pop the trunk Morgan," I said checking the car and not seeing our victim, Jessica Baler. Once the trunk was unlocked I opened it, "Medics!" I called checking for a pulse. It was there, just barely. The medics rushed into so their job and JJ rode into the hospital with her, the rest of us went back to the station to question our unsub.

"Hey Leandra, how did you know that car was coming?" Spencer asked.

"Vibrations," I answered.

Once back at the station Aaron decided to send me into the interrogation room alone. Since I looked like the victims he figured I would be able to push his buttons just right. So that's what I tried to do. I went in with the 15 files and sat down, not bothering to look at him. I went through the files, looking over them, but not really reading them. "So what is it that you have against these women?" I asked pulling out each victims' photo and placing it in front of him.

"You should know, you're one of them," he said. His southern draw deep and creepy.

"Pretend that I'm not," I answered finally looking up. He smirked at me.

"I don't have to explain anything to you."

"No, you don't, but the BAU would like to study you so answering some questions will help us better understand you and the world to better understand you. I mean that's the reason why you did this isn't? Not just to punish the girl that hurt you, but so the world would finally notice a nobody like you?"

He slammed his hands down on the table, the chains rattling. "I'm not a nobody!" he shouted.

I stood up as Morgan burst through the door. "Sit...down!" I ordered in a firm voice, leaving no room for argument. He sat down and I gestured for Morgan to leave. I didn't need his help. So for the next few hours, I went at him, trying to learn more about him and his name. He never gave it, but I had Morgan snap a picture from the window and send it to Garcia. If he had a record or an account on a social media site she would find him. I left the room, having had enough. I was ready to go home, but our job wasn't done yet, not till we had a name so the monster was put in his cage for the night and we went to the hotel for the night.
