The worst part about
loving you
wasn't you leaving
it was hoping
you'd come back

Luke couldn't remember if it had been a day or two since he had come back home. But he knew he had stayed in one position. He never moved from the seat in the kitchen. His coffee cup had been empty and grew cold, the stain sat around the rim of the cup. The bags under his eyes grew and darkened. There was a slight sting when he blinked each time. Even when his eyes were heavy, he couldn't bring himself to sleep through another nightmare. The constant tossing and a turning, sitting up and staring out the window of Los Angeles. He tried everything.

But now, he was sat in the kitchen and time moved on without him as he stared down at the blank page. Luke sighed and the lump formed back in his throat as he continued to stare down at the lines. His pen tapped along the counter before he raised it and ink ran along the ivory page.

I don't know what to say
I wanna be the last dream
Inside your head
Time is running away
As I watch Los Angeles from bed
When life is nothing but pain
I wanna be the white lines
inside your face
Think you're more than a friend
Can you drive me home?

Now I'm falling apart again
Now I'm falling apart again
I just wanna be close enough
to feel you
But the pain is so familiar
Now I'm falling apart again
Apart again
Apart again
Now I'm falling apart again

I don't wanna be here
As I close my eyes,
The canyon steers
Think I'm losing the year
As you turn and say

Honey, this is a good life
Do you see it?
I can see me in your eyes
Do you mean it?

Now I'm running underwater
I can't make a sound
It's drowning,
it's drowning me out

But now I'm falling apart again
Now I'm falling apart again
I just wanna be close enough
To feel you
But the pain is so familiar
Now I'm falling apart again
Now I'm falling apart again
I just wanna be close enough
To feel you
But the pain is so familiar
Now I'm falling apart
Apart

Now I'm running underwater
I can't make a sound
I'm running underwater
It's drowning me out

Apart, apart again

Now I'm running underwater
I can't make a sound
I'm running underwater

Now I'm falling apart again
Apart again
Now I'm falling apart again
This life is so familiar,
Falling apart

It was like a breath of fresh air. A relief as he stared down at the page. The lyrics dented to the page, the hardest song he has ever written. But a weight was lifted.
