SIX YEARS LATER

The birthday party was booming. Kids ran around aimlessly making sure their giggles filled the atmosphere.

Several bouncy houses resembled the Harry Potter-themed party. Ballons hung in wild arrangements.

There was a cake and cupcake table plus a candy table. Silas watched as the gift table was stacked with wrapped presents.

His big black glasses were smushed against his tan face. He was being sneaky trying to figure out if a certain someone, Y/N, had dropped his gift off.

"What are you doing?" His best friend, Kaycee, asked as her bright pink barrettes clashed with her kinky hair.

"I'm trying to see if Y/N dropped off my gift." His voice strained as he stood on his toes easing over the table.

"That's your mom right?" Kaycee asked politely.

Silas brightened that she called Y/N his mom, "Yeah sorta. But she wouldn't just drop something off without saying hello. That's rude."

"I don't think this is a good idea because your dad said it's not time for opening gifts," Kaycee said her voice sounding timid.

Silas grimaced, "Don't listen to my dad he's bogus."

The girl giggled but followed him to the other side of the gift table.

Y/N rang the doorbell anxious to finally see why she came in the first place. She could hear the kid's music playing from the large backyard.

Oakley's event planner, Jessica opened the door wide for her, "Y/N you made it! Silas has been asking about you since he got up this morning!"

She laughed carrying a hefty present in her hands. There were so many kids it was beginning to scare her.

"Yeah well, I'm here now!"

Y/N didn't need to be escorted to the backyard of the estate. She had been here so many times that it was apparent.

She huffed finding the gift table. She laughed noticing two small bodies behind it, "Is that the birthday boy?"

His eyes widened as he leaped from his hiding spot, "Y/N!"

Y/N smiled hugging the boy and ruffling his curly hair. He smiled up at her as she bent down to his level, "I swear every year your dad does something bigger."

Silas blushed a bit feeling embarrassed, "You don't like my Harry Potter theme? Sometimes people say it's nerdy but-"

She cut him off, "No! I love it. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Okay?"

The little boy had a sense of trust in his eyes, "Okay."

"Where's your dad anyway?"

Silas pointed behind her. Y/N turned around already finding Oakley staring at her. She waved before turning back to the boy in front of her.

"Do you like my daddy?" He asked blushing a bit.

Y/N blinked, "What?"

Silas leaned forward lowering his voice, "I asked because I know my daddy likes you."

She froze when a hand came over her back, "What are you saying to her you little booger?"

Y/N smacked Oakley's chest rolling her eyes, "Stop calling him that."

The boy giggled and ran away with Kaycee not far behind. Y/N felt her eyes meet his. Her heart did a leap when he smiled at her.

"Thanks for coming, I'm sure he appreciates it," Oakley said watching as his son bounced around with his friends.

"You say this every birthday and major holiday," Y/N said moving towards the food display.

Her stomach rumbled as she plated the food onto her paper plate. Oakley watched her "That's because he's damn near your son."

Y/N laughed smiling, "He should've been mine anyways."

His mother was nowhere to be found like always. And so Y/N made sure to show up when needed. Hell, she even picked up the boy from school most days. Y/N was in every picture, at every school event, and taking him out. She was his mother.

"You're right about that but you still won't let me make it up to you."

His words made her fidget. Y/N rolled her eyes when he sat next to her on the lounge chairs in the shade. They had the perfect view of the party, "You know why."

"I really don't." Oakley's voice sounded much more mature than the years prior. He didn't even rap anymore, he told Y/N that his rap career had become his third love.

Y/N ate more of her food, "I shouldn't even be here but when that little boy crawled into my lap years ago I fell in love with him."

Oakley moved closer to her. His body heat radiated from him engulfing Y/N in a brisk heat. His fingers traced shapes on her exposed skin. She mentally cursed at herself for wearing a tank top but it was still warm outside.

"You remember when I told you that rap became my third love?" Oakley's voice was barely above a whisper.

Y/N felt goosebumps rise on her tender skin, "Yeah."

She took a deep breath turning her head to his. He was already looking at her with this intense glare.

"That's because nothing will ever top you and my son."

Y/N's heart hammered in her chest as she blushed, "Oakley."

"Just give me a chance Y/N. I'm a patient man and I'm serious this time. We've got all the time in the world."

Y/N cleared her throat. At this point, she knew he had changed for the better, "Okay but this is your last fucking chance."

"I won't miss this time."

She shrieked when he pulled her into a hug causing her to laugh, "Being a parent has made you soft!"

"Shut up! Let's go cut the cake."

Silas came running down to them screaming, "Did somebody say cake?!"
