"You look happy," Helen commented in the morning as she handed me a cup of coffee."I do?"
She nodded, giving me a pretty smile, "happier than I've ever seen you. It's good to see you like this, Annabeth."
And with that being said, she went to go wake up Matt and Bobby.I played with the steaming cup in my hands, letting its heat slightly singe my palms.
Was I truly happier?
I supposed I was stressing a lot less than I would have about school. And I'm going out a lot more and taking a second to have fun. My relationships with my friends have improved a lot too, I suppose.
I never used to do that before. What changed?
And maybe I liked it....maybe I don't....
"Annieeebethyyyyyyy!! Mom woke me uppppppp!!" Bobby whined, waddling towards me with his blanket still fisted tightly in his hands.
I tried to supress a smile, "Awww no! Poor you! Come here!"
The next half hour, it was the usual task of Helen and I getting the boys ready for school. As she made the effort to drop them off, I locked up the house and walked to school.
It was a brisk walk.
"Hey Groves!" I greeted, looking at my little lost friend standing outside the school gates, munching happily on what appeared to be a beet root.
"Annabetrooy," he called back, his mouth full which muffled the words.
I rolled my eyes. He swallowed then, finishing the beetroot in two mighty bites. He then, told me about his weekend.
"I'm telling you! Plants are amazing therapists!" he exclaimed, pointing at one.
"Mmhmm," I replied, unsure of what to say to that.
"You know who else is an amazing therapist? Me! What's wrong?" he asked, finally beginning the walk into school.
"Nothings wrong,"
"Annabeth come on," he bleated, dropping his voice to a whisper so the other students couldn't hear. We walked towards our lockers, to take out books for the first period.
"It's just....Grover, do I seem happier?" I asked as explained to him what Helen had told me in the morning.
"Uh..." he patted his cheek, thinking. "I can't say you don't seem....more calm and relaxed, cause you do. And I don't know...Helen's got a point. You do seem happier, atleast to me."
"Why?" I asked, trying to understand.
"Hey guys!" Percy sprinted towards us, the bell ringing behind him as students shuffled into their respective classes, "I made it just on time!"
Grover gave me a look. One which read along the lines of 'you got your answer'
I punched his shoulder."Let's just get to homeroom," I dragged them both along.
I had one class with Grover and three in common with Percy. Oh no.He tried getting my attention in a class, but I ignored him cause I was actually paying attention. I did let him cheat off me during a test, so all must be forgiven.
The only actual interaction I've had with Percy and Grover so far, was in the cafeteria where I couldn't help laugh at the way Percy scarfed down a burger like he hadn't seen food in years. I also had fun chiding him after.
I couldn't help it, my mind has been so preoccupied by the whole 'you seem happier' thing. Which is odd because I've never given Helen's passing comments such heavy thought again.
But the more and more I thought about it, I realised that it could be true. And it all pointed back to a pair of sea-green eyes.
And another thought hit me, which sent me deeper into my my brain.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped hating Percy. Yes, I get annoyed with him every now and then. But I don't hate him anymore, I understand him better. And I can't for the life of me tell if that's a good or bad thing.
The school day bled faster than an injured monster. And I found it over quicker than I had realised it began.
I met up with Percy, to make sure he remembers that we have a construction project together.
And we both then, changed into our Chiron Approved Camp Half-Blood shirts and matching jean shorts and began our work. We'd finished most of the base but there was still much to do.
"Wanna head down to our creek after this? All this manual labour makes me want to cool down," Percy asked, wiping the sweat from his brow.
I agreed, the humid weather didn't help matters, "Yeah sure."
"A little more enthusiasm would be nice," he chuckled.
I rolled my eyes. I can be enthusiastic, "Oh my Gods! Percy that sounds like a marvellous idea!" I swooned, fanning my face, "how ever did you come up with it?!"
Percy smirked, "just came to me in a dream," he answered.
"How exciting!"
Percy rolled his eyes, a smile still lingering on his lips as he went back to work, me following suit.
"One condition, I'm brining my books and we're working on our project! We're a little behind and I do not like it," I told him, as we slowly wrapped up our work.
He just grunted in response. I'm taking that as an okay
And once we were done with our quota of work for the day, we packed up our things and headed down to our creek.
Our creek
When did I start saying the word our?
