•Count On It•

Start from the beginning

"No- I like it. I really like it actually, it's cool. I just noticed it is all, " The color of the stone was almost golden in the moonlight, smiling a little. "I've never known you to wear jewelry, so it caught my eye, " Mark nods, glancing down at it.

"Yeah I don't have any piercings or anything and I don't like necklaces that much. But I think rings are kind of growing on me, " He looks up at them for a moment, noticing something as well. "Buttons, " Mark calls. "I know it's kind of creepy sounding but you look really good tonight. Not like you don't all the time but I'm not sure why tonight you just look- really good, " He wanted to say 'beautiful' or 'pretty' or 'attractive,' but he couldn't find it in him to just openly compliment them like that just yet. Y/N smiles oddly, turning their head.

"Oh, thank you. It- makes me happy that you think so, " They hum, nervously turning their face to look out their window, furrowing their brows. Why am I feeling so flustered? It's just Mark- and he just said I 'look good.' What is this feeling?

"Woah- look look!" He cheers as they approach a clearing, Mark slowing down quickly, turning his headlights off. Y/N gasps quietly as they look, eyes widening. As Mark cuts his engine, they take it all in. It was a lake about 10 yards away with the reflection of the moon that first caught the eye, but then, their eyes focused on what was in front of them. There were three deer on Marks's side, just around 5 feet away, grazing. There was a buck, with antlers bigger than they thought was possible, a doe, and a fawn, Y/N shocked it was a full family of them.

"Oh my gosh, " They whisper, feeling slightly breathless. Y/N realizes after a moment that they were looking at Mark, shifting back to the deer. Something about this all made their heart skip a beat; the quiet but loud symphony of the woods at twilight, the beautiful painting of a night and wildlife mere feet away, and the warmth they could feel of Mark being right there next to them. "It's so beautiful, " Y/N breathes, looking over at Mark again, gulping.

"They're so pretty. Gosh, look at the baby, " He hums, smiling handsomely. Y/N leans on their hand, just watching him for a moment longer. I think I really am developing feelings for him. He's so kind and handsome and his smile is just- They sigh dreamily, quickly looking away as he turns to them. "I've never seen deer this close before. I wanna pet them so badly, " He whispers, turning around again.

"Yeah. They're pretty adorable, " Y/N blinks at his side profile. They jump a little as the buck suddenly turns, running off, the doe and fawn hopping after him, seemingly spooked by the truck just then.

"Wow. That was so cool, " Mark chuckles, starting it up again, clearing his throat. "I know it probably wasn't that cool to you but I don't know- deer are just pretty to me, " He shrugs, watching the road ahead.

"N-No. They're pretty to me too. It was beautiful, " Y/N says, clearing their throat. They let him drive then in silence while thinking about everything but nothing at all, watching the path to wherever Mark was going.  "Uh- where are we going anyway? You have somewhere in mind or are you just going?"

"I was just driving really. I like this part of the woods, " Mark hums, pushing his glasses up on his nose. "Would you like to go home or anything? Do you need anything?" He asks, Y/N shaking their head.

"Oh no, no no that's not it. I just was wondering about our destination is all. But it's even better when we don't know, " They smile a little at him as he turns to look at them, nodding happily.

"Yeah. Yeah exactly. I-" Mark cuts himself off, Y/N watching him gulp as he looks away. "I'll just find somewhere soon, " He mumbles, brushing his hair out of his eyes and beginning to chew on his lip in a daze, Y/N feeling a little risky as they steal a glance down.
