If someone had told you that you would follow your boyfriend Edmund to another world, you would have died laughing.
Yet, here you were in Narnia relaxing before returning home.
You were seated with your best friend, Susan.
She was styling your hair.
"So, how are you and Edmund?" she asked.
Your heart caught in your throat.
You had just heard some news from one of the magical creatures whose path you had crossed.
You weren't sure how much longer you'd be together.
But you couldn't tell his sister that.
"FIne," you lied, faking a smile.
She finished your hair and sat in front of you.
"Are you sure?" she asked, looking over at you.
You blinked.
Did she know?
"Why do you ask?" you questioned.
"Because I know," she chuckled.
"Know what?" you paled.
Susan said nothing, merely put a hand to your stomach.
"How?" you whispered.
"I recognized the signs, Y/N. From when my mother was carrying Lucy, especially," she told you.
You took her hand.
"What do I do?" you asked, dropping your confident facade.
"What do you mean? What's wrong?" she asked, worriedly.
"We're both so young. And he has so much to worry about already. I was thinking of just leaving as soon as we got back," you admitted.
Her eyes widened.
"And raise the child as your own?" she asked.
You nodded.
"You can't. that's not fair to Edmund," she said, shaking her head.
"So what should I do?" you repeated.
"Tell him, you dolt!" Susan responded, rolling her eyes.
"Fine," you said, standing and brushing yourself off, "As soon as we get back."
"No, now," Susan said, standing and dragging you over to her brother, "Edmund, Y/N, has something to tell you."
And with that, she left.
"Is everything okay?" Edmund asked, taking your hand in his.
You pulled it back.
Instead, you moved his hand to your stomach.
"I... I'm pregnant, Edmund," you said, simply.
Edmund laughed.
"Very funny, Y/N," he said, removing his hand.
"I'm not joking," you said, defensively.
Edmund studied your face for a second.
"Oh my God, you're serious?" he asked.
You nodded.
Edmund dropped to his knees in front of you.
"What are you doing?" you asked, alarmed.
"Promising my future child a magical future," he said, before kissing your stomach.
He got to his feet and kissed your lips tenderly.
"When we get back, I promise. Everything will be better," he told you.
"How can you promise that?" you asked.
"Because I can."
