It was your turn in music class.
The project was to cover a song, while playing an instrument you had recently learned to play.
You were using a small keyboard.
You met your boyfriend, Scott's eyes, and he nodded in encouragement.
Little did he know you were about to tell him how you really felt through song.
At the teacher's "Start when you're ready, Y/N," you began to play.
"I'm a million miles away from anywhere
Slide my hands across the sheets
Pretend you're there
But missing you is a slow burn
Every time the Earth turns
I'm reminded that night is only half the time," you sang softly.
You had spent many a night alone when he promised you comfort in his arms.
It was as if you were always alone, so you settled for pretending that you came first in his heart.
You closed your eyes.
"Even when I'm hurting I know that this is worth it
Tell me it'll be alright
Gotta give me something to get me through the nothing
One more night."
You believed in Scott and you believed in what he did.
His cause was something you convinced him to fight for.
You met Scott in the eyes, seeing the confusion on his face.
"Kiss me like the world is gonna disappear
I'm a better person when I have you here
Oh, I-I-I got you and I-I can get through
Anything as long as I can see your face
Right now you're so far away, so far away
So far away, so far away."
You took a pause of hesitation, before continuing.
"I don't need a map to tell me where you are
You and I, we come from the same star
Every day is a heartache and every night I lie awake
I'm reminded the bed is only half mine."
You were trying to tell him that while you understand and support what he's doing, you don't like always being alone.
"Even when I'm hurting I know that this is worth it
Tell me it'll be alright
Gotta give me something to get me through the nothing
One more night," you sang softly.
"Kiss me like the world is gonna disappear
I'm a better person when I have you here
Oh, I-I-I got you and I-I can get through
Anything as long as I can see your face
Right now you're so far away, so far away
So far away, so far away," you sang louder.
"Nobody's got the time,
Nobody's got the time,
Nobody's got the time for love.
Nobody's got the time,
Nobody's got the time,
Nobody's got the time for love," you hummed.
"Kiss me like the world is gonna disappear
I'm a better person when I have you here
Oh, I-I-I got you and I-I can get through
Anything as long as I can see your face.
Kiss me like the world is gonna disappear
I'm a better person when I have you here
Oh, I-I-I got you and I-I can get through
Anything as long as I can see your face," you sang as if you were begging.
You saw the sadness and understanding in Scott's eyes.
You sighed.
"Right now you're so far away, so far away
So far away, so far away," you finished in a whisper.
Everyone applauded and you blushed, looking at the teacher.
"97," she shrugged, "I could hear the stalling on the piano. You made up with it through expression, though."
The bell rang and everyone exited.
You stayed behind, putting away the keyboard.
You then grabbed your things and left.
When you got out the door, you bumped into someone.
You looked up to see Scott.
"We need to talk."
