His Broken Angel
Chapter Thirty-Seven: We're Just Friends
Seeing the whole painting in front of me made my stomach turn. We were in the warehouse. Reese was making some sandwiches while I stared at the painting.
We weren't there. Why? Because we didn't freakin know what we were.
This was already stressful.
I mean, he could just paint us as friends. Friends that are having fun together but not that kind of "fun".
I'll stop thinking this crap.
"You want mayo on your sandwich?" Reese asked.
"No!" I shouted back.
Even if I wanted to stop thinking about all that crap, it didn't stop! It continuously invaded my mind as we ate our sandwiches in silence. I couldn't even focus on chewing since I nearly swallowed a whole bite of bread.
I was literally crying internally.
"How are your parents?" he asked suddenly.
I flashed back to reality. "What?"
"Your parents? How are they?"
"Oh. . . I guess okay? Harr-Dad is feeling better and I haven't see him. . . And Mom still in a coma," I sighed.
Harry was awake, and I hadn't see him or visited him at all. What kind of foster daughter was I?
"How are you?"
We made eye contact which made me freeze. How was I? Gosh, I've never really thought about that. I've been messed up for years, hurting myself, sometimes without a reason.
I've never really known how I've felt these past years.
Other than feeling like utter crap.
"Um, fine. Not really in the mood to talk about anything, really."
Reese let out a small oh that made me feel even sicker than ever. I wrapped up my leftover sandwich bits and threw them away. Now I was left with a grim expression while Reese finished his sandwich.
I sighed, "When are you going to paint us on there?"
He looked surprised at my sudden mood change. Not a surprise to me though.
"I told you-"
"We're friends, Reese. Friends. Couldn't you just paint us as friends?"
"You say friends in a really bad way as if it were a bad thing," he sighed.
"It's not!" I shrieked. "You're the one who's making it feel like a bad thing."
"How?"
"With you not painting us on the wall, that says enough."
"So it's my fault," he responded flatly.
That made my blood boil as I curled my hand into fists. "Yes! You're the one who doesn't know what we are when you clearly said that we should just be friends! What the hell is so hard to understand that we're only friends?"
I leaned back in the chair, sighing to myself while covering my face with my hands. Groaning, I muttered, "This is just from the freakin beginning."
"The beginning."
"Mhmm. . . You and I somehow manage to start a stupid fight, get upset with each other, and you bring me here. Why? Why do you bring me here? Why always here?"
Reese shrugged. "It's the only place that you and I can share."
I knew that I was the only one who knew about this place. I didn't know how that made me feel. Special? Happy?
"Oh," was all I could say.
Nice being awkward, I thought.
"You're really bad at this," chuckled Reese.
I shot him a glare. "What?" I let out harshly.
"Fights. Confrontations."
"Is this going to start in another? Because I promise-"
"No. . . Just saying."
"Thanks," I said, smiling falsely.
We stayed quiet for a few seconds until we heard music playing outside. Reese and I both switched puzzled expressions as we shot out the door.
Our heads poked out from in between the doors as we saw a black jeep drive in with pop music blasting loudly from the radio.
"You've got to be kidding me," Reese muttered.
"What?" Before I could ask anything else, the door to the jeep slammed shut as the person hopped off.
Raven stood in front of us with a huge grin plastered on her face as she fixed her sunglasses. "Well, well. Looks like we got two lovebirds in the nest!"
"Seriously?" I muttered with a frown.
"What? You two fake lovers are my amusement."
Reese sighed. "What are you doing here? I told you that this place is mine."
"And it looks like hers too. Or am I wrong?" she smirked.
I leaned against the door while rolling my eyes.
"What are you doing here, Raven?"
Raven stepped closer with a small hop. "Just wanted to visit this place. You know that Mom and Dad told us to share it."
"Yeah, when I was fourteen."
"And I was still older than you. So, this is my place too."
"Not when I turned sixteen."
"Reese, stop acting like a little brat and share. I just wanna see the place."
Raven stepped closer until she was right near the doors. Reese closed them a bit when she slid her foot in between them. "I said to not act like a little brat," she muttered through gritted teeth.
"And I said that it's only mine when I turned sixteen."
"And what about her?" Raven nodded her head towards me, "she part of the sharing deal or is it just for sluts so you can bang in there?"
"Did you just call me a slut?" I blurted.
"No. I have personal things here that only Maggie can see."
"And why can't I?"
Apparently nobody here cared that she had just called me a slut.
"Because it's none of your business."
"Just let me in!" Raven shouted.
This fighting between then was making my relationship with my brother only seem better.
"Okay!" I yelled. They both snapped their attention to me. "I don't know about you, but if this isn't any of your business, than don't push it."
"But-"
"No! Don't even start, Raven." She shot me a frown before I turned to Reese. "And you stop acting like a little ass of a brat. Now, if you don't mind, could you please take me to the hospital?"
With a sigh, he opened up the doors slightly so I could get out before he locked the place up. I heard Raven mutter something before saying bye and driving off.
"God, you two are annoying," I sighed when we were on our way.
"Well I'm sorry for trying to defend my personal item."
"Why don't you just let her see it? What you painted is amazing, anyways."
Reese shrugged as he parked in the hospital's lot. "Just cause."
We walked in silence as I saw my brother pace back and forth. With a short shrug, we sat beside each other while Reese leaned against the wall with a sorry expression.
"Anything new?" I asked.
"No," Alex sighed. "Same damn thing."
I put my head on his shoulder as he hugged me tightly. "You need something to drink," I said as I stood up. "I'm getting you coffee."
Alex didn't hesitate one bit, which made me feel happier inside. I walked a bit faster when I realized that Reese was right behind me.
Inside I was praying that he'd just get food. Please just get food!
I got in line, grabbing a cup when a guy beside me stumbled back, causing me to drop my cup. "Great," I muttered underneath my breath.
"Sorry," the guy mumbled.
He picked the cup up for me and smiled when he saw me. Unintentionally, I smiled back.
With the corner of my eyes I saw Reese storm away as we started to talk.
