Dream POV.
The three of us ran through the forest in the moonlight which was now visible. The low light bathed the forest floor in a ghostly light which will most likely be too dark for humans to use to navigate. We ran for half an hour before I sat down against an oak tree.
"Why are we out here in the middle of the night?" I asked, "there won't be any humans around. Let's just go back home and give up on this idea."
Sapnap shook his head, "no, stop being such a baby. Firstly it is only 8pm, secondly everybody else has humans. You should have one too."
I let out a sigh and stood back up, following them as they ran ahead of me. We ran until Skeppy slowed to a stop. "There are some humans nearby." He said nonchalantly.
Sapnap and I exchanged a look, neither of us had sensed a human and we were surprised he had. Then again, he is trained to follow their movements and does so better than we do.
We followed him as he led us to a cave, inside were the remains of a fire which had recently been extinguished, along with some ripped clothes and food, all of which was stale. Based on what I saw it seemed the person, or people living here were male, but I wasn't too sure.
Skeppy led Sapnap and I further into the cave to see if we could find them when I heard someone swearing from behind us. I whipped around and my eyes narrowed, by the entrance of the cave I saw a figure. I nudged Sapnap and he turned around.
George POV.
Karl and Darryl each had a handful of fish after a long day by the river, it was possibly more than we had ever caught and would feed us for a while if we could keep them cold. Meanwhile I had whatever's left of the berries growing around here. Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries were stuffed in my pockets and scooped in my hands.
I was walking ahead of the pair and reached the entrance of the cave, but when I looked into it I saw something that made me swear under my breath. There were 3 people standing in the darkness talking quietly amongst themselves. Even though they weren't facing us it was obvious they weren't humans, meaning they must be demons.
The moment the words left my mouth one of the three spun around and to confirm my suspicions his eyes were glowing a vibrant yellow or possibly green. His eyes met mine from under his dirty blond hair for a moment and he smirked before elbowing the man next to him. The ravenette man spun around to reveal a pair of glowing orange eyes and a smirk revealed a set of small fangs.
Immediately I dropped the berries in my hand and took off running, knowing that they'll be after me in a minute. Darryl and Karl turned to look at me and before either could speak and gave them a worried look. "Run!" I hissed at both of them, "there are demons!"
Their eyes both widened and they instantly dropped their food and ran after me.
"How many demons are there?" Karl asked between pants as we weaved through the trees.
"At least 3, but there could be more." I answered as Darryl tripped over a rock.
I stopped to help him and told Karl to keep running, "if we all are still here than we'll all be caught. If you run at least one of us has a chance of surviving."
Karl merely nodded although he didn't look like he liked the idea of leaving us and was about 50 feet ahead of us when Darryl and I started to run again.
Suddenly he ran off the path, and Darryl was going to follow him but I told him not too. Karl was getting us to split up. I told Darryl to run to the left and he listened before I continued running over the path. If the demons couldn't see Karl and Darryl's footprints, which I hoped they didn't, all three would come after me.
Eventually I reached the cold river, and gritted my teeth as I dove into the cold water and began wading across. It reached up to above my waist, soaking my pants completely and the lower half of my shirt. Neither of these items of clothing kept me warm in the first place but in the river which was probably just above freezing and surprisingly not ice yet.
Dream POV.
The brunette human disappeared from sight as Sapnap turned to Skeppy to tell him we found a human. "Come on." Sapnap begged both of us as he began to chase them and we busted out into the chilly night in pursuit of the human.
Up ahead, we saw him, along with 2 other male humans who were all running from us. They were a wee way ahead of us when one of them tripped, causing the other's to stop and help him.
One of the two then turned and continued running as the other helped the fallen human up. Once that was done they began running again and split up ahead of us. The one who had fallen ran off to the left, and the one who helped him, the brunette from earlier, ran straight ahead. We all assumed the third one ran to the right.
Sapnap got an extra boost of speed and chased the one who went right and Skeppy did the same on the left causing me to continue going straight ahead.
As I chased the human down the path I heard the rush of water, the human was heading to a river.
When I reached the river bank I saw him watching me from the other side of the river, his already ripped clothes now drenched with water and the boy shivering in an extreme manner. I glanced at the river and watched the fast current zipping past me before my eyes drifted up to meet him again.
"You must be tired." I stated, as I took a step closer to the water but didn't step into it. "I can help."
The boy shook his head, "no. I know what your kind does, there is no way I'm coming over there." He sounded like he was in his late teens.
"You sure?" I cocked my head to the side, ""it's Winter and you're soaking wet. Plus your friends aren't with you. If you come with me I could warm you up."
I took off my green hoodie revealing my white shirt underneath and offered it out to him. I didn't need it anyway, all demons including myself can adjust their body temperature.
The boy continued to shake his head, "I know what your people do to my kind and I don't want it to happen to me."
His voice sounded firm but shaky, he was nervous. I suppressed a chuckle, most humans assume that when demons catch them that we eat them. But in all honesty humans taste like leather.
I let out a sigh as I pulled my hoodie on before jumping into the water, it chilled me for a moment before my body temperature adjusted to it. The brunette human began backing away when I was about halfway across before turning and running.
With another sigh I bent my legs before taking a large leap and landing on the other side of the river. The boy was a couple feet ahead of me but I quickly closed the distance and tackled him from behind. "Let me go!" He yelled as he squirmed, trying to push me off of him but not succeeding.
"Calm down." I responded in a low tone, "I am not going to hurt you, you're just tiring yourself out like this."
"I don't care now let me go!" he growled as he continued to squirm.
Honestly I should just let him go, I thought. I mean I didn't want a pet in the first place, especially not a human but I guess I pitied the teenager below me. If I let him go now he would be left without a home since we knew where his cave was, almost no food, soaked clothes, and to top it all off he'd be all alone.
Although I didn't want to admit it he'd probably need to stay with me to survive.
Plus, like Sapnap said, this could be a good thing for me. He was right, I have been lonely, never a girlfriend or a boyfriend or anything like that. Besides my small circle of friends such as Sapnap, Skeppy, and Quackity, and colleagues I don't really have anyone in my life.
Sounds sad but it's true.
"Are you going to calm down?" I asked him. I didn't get any words in response as the brunette continued trying to fight me.
"...obviously not." I muttered to myself.
I let out a deep breath before letting out some calming pheromones. I knew that humans of all ages could be affected by them even though only juvenile demons were. It made this a lot easier and after a few minutes he'd fallen asleep and stopped struggling all together.
I let go of him and stood up before taking my hoodie back off and pulling it over his small frame which was still shaking violently. Then I picked him up and walked back to the river, making sure that he was being held above the water. Eventually I reached the other side and saw both Sapnap and Skeppy each holding a human in their arms.
"Took you long enough." Sapnap scoffed as he spun around quickly, jostling the human slightly and causing it to groan quietly in it's sleep.
Sapnap stroked it's hair softly in response as he began walking back in the direction of the road, which would be over an hour's walk with the humans.
I just looked down at the human sleeping in my arms in the green hoodie and hoped it was worth it.
