Chapter Four
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
After I popped some popcorn and got some m&m's from the top of the fridge, I walked into the den. Cole was sprawled across the couch. It was almost to small to fit his tall frame, but he somehow made it work. I glanced at the TV to see what he was watching. Finding Nemo. What the hell...?
"I take you don't like this movie." Cole yawned.
I shook my head. "No that's not it. I just can't believe you like this movie." I murmured, running my free hand through my long hair. When had it gotten so long? It was now a little ways past the middle of my back. I sighed. Time for a haircut.
He snorted. "Are you kidding me? I love this movie!"
A grin slowly spread across my face. "Alright, sure. Let us watch this." I said dramatically.
"We are watching it."
I stuck my tongue out at him again and went to sit in the giant leather chair in the corner. I curled up into a ball and snuggled into my t-shirt. Yup, I looked like a total retard.
Cole groaned. "You have all the food! Come over here."
I eyed the couch suspiciously. There was no way I could fit on that with him sprawled out the way hewas. I wasn't that big, but I was 5'7 and it just didn't look possible. "Fine, but you're going to have to scooch over." I said, uncurling myself from the chair. I grabbed the popcorn and m&m's and made my way across the room. He had done what I asked and had left me some - and I do mean some - space on the couch. I feel into the softness and curled back into a ball, resting my arms and head on my knees.
Cole instantly started grabbing popcorn out of the large clear bowl, shoving it all into his mouth at once. I scrunched my nose up and looked at the screen. Men, I thought, rolling my eyes. It wasn't like the food was going to get up and run away! Whoa what if that actually happened?! That would be so horrible. It would start a food war or something. I wonder how food would attack!
"December?" I was awaken from my daydreaming by someone placing a hand on my shoulder. I raised my head and came face-to-face with clear blue eyes. I could feel the blood running to my cheeks as I blushed. Great.
"Huh?" I asked.
"I don't know. You said something about evil carrots. It kind of uh...worried me."
I blushed a deeper red. I said that aloud? Great now he really is going to think I'm crazy. "Sorry. I was just thinking about something."
Cole raised his eyebrows. "Well whatever it was, it sounded interesting."
I laughed awkwardly. "Yeah..."
He grinned and took his hand off my shoulder, focusing all his attention on the movie.
After the movie was over, I yawned and looked at my watch. 7:37. I stood up and stretched, groaning. It was only Wednesday, meaning I had to go to school in the morning. I quickly took the empty bowls into the kitchen and began scrubbing them out, making sure they were clean before rinsing them and putting them on the drying rack.
"December, where are your parents?" A voice said from behind me.
I didn't know he had followed me into the kitchen, so it scared the living hell out of me. I slipped over God knows what, probably my feet, and fell backwards, hitting something warm and hard. Cole and I fell to the floor in a tangle of arms and legs.
"If this wasn't so painful, I might actually laugh." I groaned, somehow managing to escape the mess. I stood upright and looked at Cole. His eyes were wide, and he looked really surprised. it was cute. December stop! I scolded myself. Men aren't cute. They were hot. Wait no! I mentally slapped myself, yet again, and reached out a hand to help Cole up off the floor.
"Sorry 'bout that. You really should sneak up in unsuspecting girls. Some of them," I lowered my voice to a whisper. "carry weapons!"
Standing now, Cole stood above me. As my words registered a small smile crept into his handsome face.
"And about your question, my parents won't be here until...well I don't know when they will be back to tell you the truth."
"You don't sound very surprised." Cole said, frowning.
"Oh, I'm not. This is a regular thing."
"Really?"
"Really."
His brow furrowed. He looked really confused. I smiled slightly.
The doorbell rang, echoing through the house. I ran to go get it, as I threw open the door, my eyes widened. There stood my friend James. Well then.
"James? What are you doing here?"
"Well, Delilah told me that there was some dude here, so I came to make sure you guys were using protection."
I already knew I was blushing. "JAMES!"
"No kids." He said in a bored voice.
"I wasn't really planning on it!" I exclaimed.
James grinned and I looked beyond him to his pretty black Mazda rx8. In the passenger side, there Deliliah sat, smiling at me innocently. My eyes narrowed.
"Not allowed to drive alone, James?"
He grinned sheepishly. "She had to make sure that you guys had your shirts on!"
A hand popped out of the back window and soon a head appeared as well. Nick.
"Nick too huh?"
"To make sure he wasn't raping you."
On the other side, yet another hand popped out and then...a foot. Well that was new. The hand and foot disappeared inside the car and then Scarlett's head popped out, just as Nick's had.
"Scarlett too!?"
"Wanted to see the " Sexy Beast" everyone was talking about."
"There wouldn't happen to be anymore people in your trunk, would there?"
"Not that I know of."
"Well good. Now, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye bye!" I shut the door in his face a muttered things as I turned to head back to the kitchen. I ran into a chest. God this man was quiet!
"Nice save December. I'm sure he loved having his face smashed into a door."
I crossed my arms. "It was an early Christmas present!"
"Mmmhmm. Well I have to leave. I'll see you at school tomorrow, buddy." He said winking at me. He walked out of the door and made his way to the bus stop at the end of the street.
I stared after him, my eyes wide. School? I would see him at school? What grade was he even in?! I didn't ask for his age, though he seemed older than me at times. I shook my head. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
