Joji was never one to enjoy the whole 'your soulmate will make you feel like you're on fire' kind of thing. He knew it happened to everyone, but why in gods name did he have to kill someone? 'It'll feel like Ice in your tummy!' Everyone told him.
Joji never felt either of those things. But it might've been because he stayed inside everyday, not willing to leave his house in case he felt either of those things.
But you can't live on top ramen forever, and Joji was fed up with the salty noodles for awhile. So he had to go to the store.
It was late at night, and Joji really didn't want to be there. He stumbled into a man in the middle of the frozen dinners isle, and immediately felt over corn with heat. Judging from the other mans expression, he'd felt it to. "God fucking damn it I just wanted to get some food!" Joji yelled. The other man laughed and helped him up. And Joji couldn't help but feel a sudden chill, like there was ice in his stomach. For fucks sake. It didn't look like the other man felt it, but it wouldn't surprise Joji if he did, it was just his luck. "I guess we're soul mates?" The other man asked. "Yeah, and I don't even know your goddamn name," Joji grumbled. "I'm Ian, and I'm 22," Joji nodded. "I'm Joji and I'm 20," he replied. "Oh shit, I guess you're into older men, huh?" Joji couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Listen, I've really got to go, but here's my number. Call me when you get the chance," Ian said, smile still on his face. He handed Joji a little card, and on it was a hand drawn picture of two stick figures holding hands, with a phone number in the top. Joji smiled at it, and Ian was gone.
He called his mom later that night, told her how he felt fire and ice at the same time, and he could hear her sadness. "Oh no," she muttered. "Honey, you've got to kill your soulmate," she confessed. Joji didn't say anything. Just let the fear of always being alone creep into him.
It was just his luck
