The day

I still remember it so well, I thought to myself as I lay sprawled out on my warm bed. The way our embrace smelt like her perfume and my deodorant and the way her smile lasted mere seconds before she broke down in front of my very own eyes. Our voices broke mid sentence every time we spoke. Her hair tangled through her fingers as she ran her hands through the golden ringlets continuously, like it was going to solve it all. She said we'd stay best friends, but under these circumstances, we could no longer be together, but she hoped we got back together in the far future. The way her fingers softly latched onto my chin, forcing my eyes to meet hers, only to see how much this was truly tearing her apart. I said I couldn't do this, that I'd leave her be, never bother her again but her quiet pleas begged me to stay around in this time when we both needed the comfort of each other. It was the hardest day of my life, but as she lay beside me, happily sighing as she glanced down at her white wedding gown and at my right black suit; I knew it was worth it.
