As she sat on the green swing set at the neighborhood playground, the sky above was a canvas of cirrus clouds with streaks of sunlight peeking through. Her hands held onto the silver chain links, With each push back and forth, the creak of the swing brought a smile to her face. The sound of laughter from black children of various shades echoed from the nearby basketball court, where a reddish-brown Spalding ball bounced on the dove-grey concrete. In the distance, the wailing sirens added a faint background noise to the serene scene. She rocked on, using the outsole of her dark green Converse to keep the pace going.

She found the silence incredibly serene, although not so serene that she failed to notice someone approaching the swing set. Her neatly tied back dark brown box braids prevented them from obstructing her view.

While he strolled on the mulch, the sound of footsteps caught her attention, and she lifted her head, her eyelids fluttering open. Before her stood a young man with dark chocolate skin, and his deep brown eyes glistened in the light. He looked like he hasn't changed a bit.

It was Kevin, her childhood friend whom she hurt the most when she left Chicago for college without saying goodbye, he missed her like crazy but they leave it on a bad note with a kiss goodbye, without any answers or explanations.

"So you leave without saying goodbye?" Kevin asked gently, using a soft tone. Knowing she would remember it.

Kevin had a weakness and that was Amira, from the moment these two kissed on the last day she stayed in Chicago, she had him feenin' for more. But she didn't even know it.

He stepped to the swing beside her, the young male took a seat and their heads instinctively rose in unison, their eyes meeting with an intense gaze. Amira nervously nibbled on her bottom lip as she began to speak, "Kevin, I want to apologize for leaving without saying goodbye. I know I owe you an explanation."

"College became my whole life, the parties, the scholarship I got, the schoolwork, I thought my life would change but it didn't.  understand, but it still hurt," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Her heart ached with guilt as she realized the pain she had caused her childhood friend. "I'm so sorry, Kevin. I never meant to hurt you. I was just so caught up in my own world, I didn't realize how much leaving would affect you."

He took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. "It's okay, Amira. I've had a lot of time to process it. But can we talk about us? That kiss we shared before you left...did it mean anything to you?"

Her cheeks flushed as she remembered the kiss. "Of course it did, Kevin. It meant everything to me. But I was so scared of how you would react, I couldn't bring myself to talk about it."

Kevin's eyes softened as he took Amira's hand in his. "I feel the same way. I've been in love with you since we were kids. And that kiss only made me realize it even more."

Her heart skipped a beat as she looked into his eyes. "And I'm sorry it took me so long to realize it."

Kevin leaned in and captured Amira's lips in a passionate kiss, the two childhood friends finally confessing their feelings for each other after all these years.

Her heart fluttered at his words, but she tried to keep her cool. "I've missed you too, Kevin," she replied softly. He took a deep breath before reaching out to take her hand. "I know there's something between us. And I'm willing to take a chance on it if you are."

Amira felt her cheeks flush at his words, and she couldn't help but smile. "I am," she said, squeezing his hand gently. "Let's see where this goes."

With that, the two of them sat there on the swing, their hands intertwined, both feeling like they were exactly where they were meant to be.
