Chapter 41: Quick Dip

We were on our way back to the prison, when a horde of walkers blocked the road ahead. Maggie quickly stopped the truck, just out of earshot of the walkers.
"Where the hell did they come from?" Michone asked.
"They teleported." I joked.
Maggie nudged me and gave me a look.
Michone and I chuckled at her, then I shrugged my shoulders.
"Probably a town nearby or something." I suggested.

There was a moment of silence as we just stared at the horde, stumbling in the direction of the prison.
"We should draw them away from the prison..." Maggie suggested.
I nodded.
"There any detours we can take, Michone?" I asked.
She hummed in thought.
"There's another route nearby, with a little lake on the way. Has clear water. We can distract the horde, then wait there a while, fill up our water whilst we're at it."
"You sure the waters clean?" I asked.
Maggie reversed and turned the car.
"Our well water was. What's the difference?"
"That was a well."
"Still came from the ground"
I stammered and couldn't argue back.
Maggie smirked and honked the car horn.
"Exactly, city girl. Exactly."

After Maggie honked the horn, the horde turned to us and began to stumble to the truck. Maggie honked the  horn a few more times, making sure she had the whole hordes attention. She waited till the walkers started banging on the back of the truck till she slowly began to drive off.

After about, five minutes, I turned in my seat, looking out the back window.
"They move so slow..." I groaned
"Well they are dead." Maggie said.
"And we're in a car" Michone added.
"Yeah, going at like, five miles per hour!"
They both chuckled and Michone leaned back in her seat.
"We're not going that slow, drama queen." Maggie said.
"I'd get comfortable if I were you" Michone warned.
"Oh god, why?"
"The lake is a good twenty minutes from here and going at this pace..."
I groaned and rested my head on Maggie's shoulder.
"I'm going to die of old age!" I cried.
They both chuckled and Michone pat my thigh.
"There, there. At least you won't be eaten alive."
"I'd rather" I groaned into Maggie's side.
"I can always throw you out the car" Maggie sassed.
I scoffed.
"Bite me" I sassed.

I pulled away and smirked at her. She rolled her eyes and honked the horn again.
"Hey, walkers! I have a tasty treat for you!" She yelled out the window.
The walkers all growled in unison.
I gasped dramatically, then hugged Michone.
"Can you believe she'd feed me to them!?"
She snorted and pat my head.
"You poor baby" She replied sarcastically.
"I know right? The audacity." I joked.
Maggie pulled me off Michone.
"Drama queen"
"I pale in comparison to you, bossy boots."
She groaned and Michone sniggered, then smirked at us.
"You two act like an old married couple."

I felt my face grow hot and hid it under my hair. I hit Michone and scowled at her playfully.
"We do not" Maggie argued.
I rolled my eyes and pointed my thumb at Maggie.
"I'd never marry her, I'd get nagged to death."
I felt Maggie smack my head.
"Who'd want to marry you? You're the stupidest person I know" She argued.
"Well...you nag." I argued back.
"You snore" She argued.
"You snort"
"You're loud"
"You're bossy"
"You're weird"
"You're weirder!"
"Your singing is terrible"
"You can't dance"
"You can't cook"
"You're too messy"

Michone sniggered and we both turned to her, glaring at her. She surrendered, trying to stop her sniggers by covering her mouth.
"Married couple"
"Y/n." Maggie called.
"Yes?"
"Slap Michone for me"
I turned to Michone and smirked.
"Don't you dare" She warned, pointing at me.
I rolled up my sleeves.
"Y/n..." Michone warned.
I bonked her head with my fist.
"Bad Michone."
She held her head and stuck her tongue out and I did it back. Maggie scoffed at us, but smiled slightly.
"So childish..."

After a very slow journey, with the help of Michone's directions, we pulled the truck over on the side of the road, then went into the woods. The walkers were close enough to see us, but far enough to continue past us.
