Longing for used to be

Jade would wake up at the hospital two days later feeling like the victim of a train crash. A familiar panic set in as her brain went back to the terror of being completely alone, but this time she would wake to a room filled with people.

At her bedside was Robby, head on the bed in his arms and at the window sat Kyler, who had his back against the wall, arms crossed, and head lolled in a sleep. Tory sat in a chair by the front door, head against the wall also in a nap. Regardless of whatever anxiety she was feeling, a deep wave of calm entered her system.

She wasn't alone.

But just as quickly as the calm came, a deep feeling of dread and anxiety flooded her body as she realized where she was. Her machine started beeping as her heart beat increased into a panic attack.

Robby groggily got up at the noise and through bleary eyes saw Jade struggling. His eyes widen and he quickly tried to calm the punk down.

"Jade, Jade! You're okay, you're at the hospital!" Robby spoke quickly and calmly, grabbing the girl by the shoulder. Jade's eyes looked into his own and the brunette let out a small smile before the nurses came in and asked the teens to leave. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you awake." This time the increase in heart beat was not from the panic attack.

By the end if it all Jade was able to gather that she had consumed so much alcohol that she had alcohol poisoning. After she was fully healed, she was being sent to a pediatric rehabilitation center curtesy of Terry Silvers (who ensured it was the best money could by). The rehab was mandated by the state, or she'd have to risk losing her emancipation.

And her little family of crazies stayed by her throughout it all.

Jade didn't complain much having found herself tired of everything and honestly wanting the help. The center wasn't too bad either and this time it was interesting having Robby visit her

"Ooooo, guapo. It's crazy seeing you here." Jade smirked at the brunette as he sat down on the chair in front of her, a small smile of his own on his face. "Get it, 'cause all the crazies are here." She pointed to herself, chucking at the sardonic joke. "Anyways, what's new?"

Robby shrugged, running a hand through his hair and sighing contently. "Not much, but Tory ask me to prom two days ago." And the punk had to sit there with a smile, pretending like she was okay. And maybe she was, because the more Jade thought about it, the more she realized the news didn't hurt as bad as it should have. "Sensei Silvers is letting us drive one of his fancy cars and helping us out with outfits."

Jade smirked, leaning back in her chair. "I expect nothing less than silk on that body, guapo." Robby chuckled enjoying the relaxed Jade, the expression on her face reminded him of the time at the pond. Every time he visited her this month she seemed more relaxed and happier. "When is the dumb dance?"

"In a week and a half." Robby said, checking his phone for the date. When he looked back up he sent a smirk her way. "I heard you shot down Kyler's invite to prom." Jade snorted and rolled her eyes.

"He still complain' about that?"

Robby let out an eye roll of his own. "He wouldn't stop for like two weeks until he asked another girl. Why did you say no? I thought you were cool with him?"

Jade smiled a bit, thinking about the times Kyler came and visited. Each time he asked for the first two weeks, she'd always say no and he'd always scoff, but change the subject.

"If I go, I'm ending with some good as sex, y'know? And fucking Kyler would be like fucking a twin brother." Jade shivered at the thought, the idea of even kissing the teen made her feel icky. "I got a lotta weird fucking kinks, but incest ain't one of 'em."

"So, you're gonna go alone?" Robby asked, chuckling at the honest and risqué answer. This time Jade sighed and looked away, not wanting to talk about it. The brunette frowned at the reaction. "What? You get out this Friday, there's no reason not to go."

"I don't know, Robby. I-I just don't know if I'll be ready to face everyone by then." Jade finally let out, a huge weight settling in her chest at the thought of facing everyone at school. "I-I'm kind of tired."

And that was the truth. Jade was so exhausted in so many ways and she just wanted to go slow. Prom would undoubtedly be a shit show of drama between the karate dojos (with that being the main reason Tory and Robby were going) and she just didn't want to fight anymore.

With all the visitors she had over the past few weeks, the only thing she hadn't spoken about was her desire to stop fighting. But every time someone other than her cousins or band visited, that's the one thing that always got brought up. The tournament, the fighting, the drama, the tension, and all of that was what got her here in the first place.

Well, maybe not the only reason she was there, but definitely didn't help.

By the time the visitation hour was over, the two teens were laughing and in good spirits. Robby hugged the girl goodbye tightly and Jade enjoyed the warmth through closed eyes. That moment would forever be remembered by her.

Because that was the day she realized Robby would never be anything more than family.

And she was okay with that.

Back in her room, Jade sighed as she sat at her desk and stared down at the journal. Her time at the clinic gave her ample room to write music and produce for her band. When she came back, there was a whole new album waiting to be played for the first time and she was excited.

The first two weeks really sucked. She had nothing to calm the withdrawals and so she spent most of the time in bed with nightmares similar to the one she had at the hospital. Demons would torment her and for a long time she had no idea if she was awake or not.

But eventually, Jade would heal and find hope for a future.

When she checked out on Friday, a full month after she checked in, she walked outside to a familiar group. Tory walked forward with a smirk and handed the girl her leather jacket, Jade immediately swapping the sweater and savoring the feeling of the leather with a content sigh.

Jade got into the front seat of Kyler's car who smirked and opened his mouth to say something.

"No, bello. I ain't going to prom with you."

"Damn, shorty. Good to see you too, you bitch." But none of it held malice as the group of friends drove to drop the girl off at the apartment. The car was lively, filled with rock music and laughter and screaming as Jade enjoyed using her voice again while putting her shoe laces back in her shoes.

At the apartment, Jade found all of her drugs, liquor, and smokes had been thrown away by Robby and for a second she felt angry. But she quickly realized this was for the best. She had to get better and stay better.

It felt surreal and amazing and scary and so fucking extraordinary to be home.

"So, what do you want to do first?" Robby asked, putting her bag down on the coffee table. The punk immediately went to her bed and flopped onto it with a sigh, causing the dropout to chuckle.

"Sleep."

And so she did.
