~Smoke another fag and ease your sorrows~
~'Cause you lads are all I need~

"Hey, Jay, we got a gig this weekend."

"No shit, really? Somewhere not in the Underground?"

Rum nodded, sipping on a Blue Moon. Since school was out, Jade had more time to work on the music with the band and they took advantage of it.

Rum and his girlfriend lived in an old, worn home in Reseda and the garage had been turned into the practice spot for their band. His girl, Lacey, was a freelance photographer and Rum's day job was bartending. Lacey did a lot for managing the band. She was the most organized and put together of any of them.

The garage was a double and was filled with band posters, marker writings of song lyrics, and random things taped to the wall. In the middle sat Rum's drum set and there were mismatched couches that cut off the back corner for the crew to sit on. In the corner there was a mini-fridge full of cheap beers and some liquors on top.

On the couch against the back wall sat Blake and Scooter. Scooter had his legs propped up on a coffee table with a beer in his hand and a magazine on the couch side he had been reading. Blake used Scooter's lap as a foot rest.

Jade was almost positive that there was something going on between the two that they weren't sharing with the class.

But, that was their prerogative, not hers.

Jade was sitting on a couch by herself, completely taking up as much space as she could. Rum was on the couch next to hers, a red solo cup in hand. Jade had a Blue Moon.

"We're trying to get out of that shit hole and start doing real shit, Jay." Blake looked across the room at Jade, who avoided eye contact. "We don't like that fucker." Scooter nodded in agreement and threw his magazine at Jade's face when she didn't look at anyone. She looked up annoyed through narrowed eyes.

"Hey, squirt. We know you think you're big and all that tough bullshit, but this fuck has to stop. It's fucking disgusting and he's taking advantage of you." The sneer on Scooter's face was not for Jade, but the creep who preyed on young teens like her. Jade scoffed rolling her eyes.

"Yeah, what the fuck ever, vespa. I have it under control." The other band mates gave her a look of obvious disbelief. Jade stuck a middle finger around the room. "Fuck you all. Where's the gig, Rum?" Rum made eye contact with the other two bandmates before sighing and dropping the discussion.

"At that weird festival for Fourth of July. We go on after some stage name Miyagi-Do." Jade nodded and took another sip of her beer. "It's later in the night, but there's still some families there so we have to be more... y'know." Jade groaned.

"Eeh Dios, I hate being PC..." Scooter chuckled and placed a hand on Blake's shin. "But a gig is a gig, what kind of set?" Rum shook his head.

"Nah, ain't like that. It's just more of a two-three song teaser to get people hyped. Lacey is saying it'll get us more attention for bigger clubs." Jade snorted into her beer.

"Good luck with getting anyone to sign us or take us with a minor in the group."

Yes, it was true.

Everyone else was older.

Rum and Lacey were 23.

Scooter was 22 and Blake was 21.

Jade was 16 and that should be weird.

But fuck the four bandmates had a chemistry like a family. When Jade showed up at the underground one night two years ago after coming out of Rough Ralf's office something snapped in the three males and she was immediately adopted.
