We used to get high and stare at the moon
And wonder how long it would take to walk to
But now that's like the distance between me and you?

"Hey, tigre." Jade popped up behind Demetri, causing the boy to jump in fear and spill some of his drink.

"Oh damn it, Jade. You made me spill my Mr. Pibb! This is the last one, you know?!" Jade rolled her eyes dragged her hand across the teens shirt, shaking off the soda form his shirt.. Demetri's face went red at the contact and shoved her hands away. "H-hey, I did not consent to this." Jade snorted.

"It's more fun with they resist." She teased the teen who rolled his eyes. Demetri took a second to look at the girl cautiously.

"I thought you had work tonight? Or did the circus cancel?"

"Oooo, getting spicy, mi tigre. Keep talking dirty to me, you make me feel such pretty things." Jade looked around while the boy blushed. "So, where's your friend?" Demetri shuffled on his feet uncomfortably, knowing that there was something going on between the two and...well...

He didn't want to be the one to tell her.

Honestly, he didn't want her to find out period.

"W-well, he was here a second ago... But, uh, hey, do you want something to drink? There's no more Mr. Pibb but they have Sprite!" Jade nodded, going along with the raven's sudden change and panic. As Demetri tried to steer her from the direction of his friend being friendly, she heard a voice call out.

"Hey, Moon!" Jade didn't know why the call made her turn her head but Demetri smacked his head when he saw the realization in her face.

"Shit, Jade. Look, I-" Jade put a hand up, cutting the nerd off.

"It's, uh. It's cool. Promise." She tried to smirk, but it just looked sad and depressed. Like a spaghetti noodle falling off a kindergartners artwork. "Let's just get a drink, yeah?"

Demetri nodded slowly, not trusting a word the girl said but lead her to the coolers anyways.

......

When Jade had laid eyes on her-

What was he to her?

When Jade laid eyes on Hawk making out with Moon, she felt a crack in her heart.

When he continued to stare after her with those eyes and a beer in hand, she felt the crack deepened.

Hawk never consumed alcohol at her place when she offered it...

It wasn't like she had sole claim over the teen, but why did it hurt so fucking bad?!

When Jade was 13 and stared into the deaden eyes of her alcoholic mother after her father just beat the shit out of her in the bedroom... she felt nothing.

When Jade was 14 and hurt her throat practicing a fry scream and couldn't speak for three weeks... she felt nothing.

When Jade was 15 and stood in the courtroom by herself and plead for emanicpation... she felt nothing.

So why did this feel like such a goddamn betrayal?!

.....

Fingers snapping in his face jolted Demetri out of his daydream.

"Go talk to him." Demetri's head shot over to the mint haired girl who sipped on a glass bottle. With a roll of her eyes she nodded her head to Hawk. "The eye-fucking is getting to much for me, tigre. I'll be fine, just go say what you need to say and come back." With a slow, but grateful nod Demetri made his way to his friend on the log.
