Special Chapter: Phoenix as father and husband

At first, I really didn’t have plans to have a family. All I want is to live happily, while I have a lot of things, and money... but I guess money can’t really buy happiness. Although I have a lot of money, but the end of the day, alam ko sa sarili ko na maaaring mawala ‘yon pero ang pagkakaroon ng masayang pamilya at magandang asawa ay hindi. 

The family will remain family. Having a happy family is a blessing from God. Well, my family felt a lot of tragedy. We lost our best family member, my father, but it’s still happy because for a short period of time, nakasama namin siya. Kahit na konting oras at panahon lang, at least naging masaya kami.

I remember what my father told me when having a family. He said, the best recipe for having that is to always be with your wife, and kids. Make them special and always love them. If there’s a problem, talk about it. It was true. It was all true. But mine is not just family because it’s a happy family. I have my beautiful wife, and I have my kids. Being a parent is really hard, yet fun. I have a lot of duties at the Hospital and I’m so tired everyday, but every time I see my kids... my tiredness always fades.

“Daddy, wake up!” I heard my son’s voice outside of the room. “Mommy, wake up! Daddy! Daddy Nix!”

I slowly opened my eyes. Bumungad ang natutulog na mukha ng asawa ko. Her face didn’t change. I stared at her beautiful face before hugging her. Hinila ko siya palapit sa akin.

“Daddy, can I open the door?!” Nagulat naman ako sa sinabi ni Rix.  He knocked three times. “Dad?”

“Baby, wake up...” I kissed Darlene’s cheeks.

“Masakit ang katawan ko.” She pushed me using her palms. “At pagod ako.”

Wow, she’s tired? Oh, well, I know what we did last night and it was really tiring.

“But Rix wants to go here.” I took her nighties dress on the floor. “Put this back on your body.” She needs to wear this. Rix can’t see her like this.

“Inaantok pa ako.” Tumalikod siya sa akin. Her back was showing, hanggang baywang niya lang ang natatakpan ng blanket. “Ipagluto mo ng pagkain ang tatlo. At gawan mo ako ng mango shake. Ay, teka ayoko no’n. Sawa na ako. Ano na lang, hmm, kahit ano.”

May pagkain bang kahit ano?

“Okay, I’ll do it but put this on your body. You’re only wearing lace undies.” I smirked when she looked at me.

She rolled her eyes then slept again. Sumimangot ako. Palagi niya na lang akong iniirapan.

“Mommy, I’m hungry! Sinimulan na naman ako ni—stay away from me Kuya Daze! Dad! Iuuntog ko na ‘to sa pader! Daddy! Ihahagis kita sa langit, Kuya!”

“Ikaw ang iuuntog ko, Rix! Kinuha mo ang iPad ko tapos hindi mo chinarge? Aba! Hindi yata makatarungan ‘yon, kapatid. Hindi ka dapat ganiyan! Tandaan mo, gwapo ako.” I heard Daze’s voice. “Kaya kailangan mong gawin ang sinasabi ko.”

“Ang ingay niyo naman!” Pati boses Mavi ay narinig ko. “Umagang-umaga nagsasabong kayong dalawa. Isa pang ingay niyo, bibinggo na kayo kay Mommy. Ayos sana kung bibigyan niyo ako ng pera tuwing nag-iingay kayo, e, kaso hindi! Puro rindi lang ang nakukuha ko.”

I massaged my forehead in frustration. Laging ganito ang eksena tuwing umaga. They are always doing this. Actually, sila na ang alarm clock namin sa umaga.  Pero minsan napapatanong na lang ako kung kanino ba sila nagmana ng kakulitan? Kay Darlene siguro. Makulit at maingay si Darlene lalo na tuwing gabi.
