I couldn't help but think about the tournament; it was said to start two weeks from now, and I already saw the mages start with the preparations for it.

I sighed and put down the book I was reading since I couldn't sleep.

I went to open the window flaps and leaned against the the window sill, staring up at all the stars.

I knew all the constellations by heart from the constellation of the dragons to the sea serpent constellation but even repeating them to myself couldn't make me forget what was to become of my future.

"What troubles you this time Highness?" I heard and looked down, taking a while to find her in the darkness, the light from inside my room made it harder. Her eyes shown bright even in this low light, the stars light reflected in them, beautiful. I blushed slightly at that thought and hoped she didn't see it. "Something worth losing sleep over?"

"I could ask you the same, the stars are up and the moon shines bright in the night sky." Her inhumane features were popping under the moon's light, so captivating.

I watched her look down at the wall and the vines on it reach out and wrap around her calves before they lifted her to my window.

"I thought I'd come up here, talking would be easier than from this close." She said, crouching as if she wasn't in the air and just held by plants, forearms resting on her knees.

"You truly are a mystery, I have never seen a mage do something like that, not even head mage Belladonna." I said, looking closer at the plants, even poking them but they didn't feel any different from normal.

"Why yes I did warn you I'd have a few mysteries to me." She teased with a grin.

"A few." I couldn't help but laugh, it felt good too laugh truly. "If it was only a few I'd have gotten my answers already."

"You are confident princess, that's a good trait to have, now what troubles your mind this late night?"

"Anything that could go wrong with the tournament."

"You shouldn't worry Highness."

"Easy for you to say mage."

"Her Majesty has come to us to participate in the games."

"And?" I was suddenly nervous, had she refused to participate? Has she accepted?

"Em and I will join to keep you safe Highness."

"That does ease a bit of my worries." I said truthfully.

"Don't worry Highness you can trust in us."

"Yes of course mage but what if you won?" I rose a brow, interested in what she thought would happen if she win, I wouldn't be against it.

"I am already the queen's property so what would change?"

"I can't help but want to get to the bottom of this mystery you are mage."

"I invite you to keep trying in that case princess."

"Of course my dear mage... Tomorrow we are leaving to meet with the woodland people, mother want two mages."

"Em or Leo, they work well with nature or ground, even Amalia would be good, the ground over there is rocky." I was confused as to why she hadn't listed herself, she is doing amazing things with nature right now.

"You compliment others but never talk of yourself in the same regards."

"I know what I can do and my limits, I am not amazed by familiarity."

"Well you should look at yourself with the eyes of others, you would be just as good of a choice as all of them just from what I can see you doing right now."

"You will sweep the nation like thunder Highness, you'll stand tall and grandiose before the people, perpetuating the name of the purple eyed ones, you shall be a great queen."

"You compliment and yet can't find more than mundane words for yourself mage, learn to appreciate your worth."

"I do, I trust in my skill and strength and I know my weaknesses." She is really good with her words.

"But do you see what others see? How pure of a heart you are, always looking out for others before yourself, dealing with a present you never wanted but decide to live it to the fullest, the mage that is looked up to by her peers and yet can't see how amazing you are."

"You are a good judge of people Highness."

"I had a good teacher."

"So it seems."

"So would you be willing to accompany us mage? I am sure mother would be pleased by that outcome if it were to happen as you are the courts dragon and our land is known for the dragons." I really wanted her to come along, out of all the mages I felt the most safe with her despite knowing all would protect us the same, there was just this weird aura to her, calming almost, confident in her abilities to keep me safe and knowing she would succeed.

"Very well Highness I will accompany you and your family to the woodlands tomorrow."

"Thank you."

"Of course, now have your troubles left you alone?"

"Some yes."

"Try to get some shut eye Highness, the road will be long tomorrow."

"Same to you mage."

I watched her get lowered and closed the flaps and went to blow out all the candles I had lit, making the room fall into darkness.

I turned to the window and walked back to it in darkness, moon light seeping through the decorative holes in it and watched her walk away into the night.

"Good night Mystery." I said to myself with a smile, I'd never be so casual in front of someone but it felt right.

It felt so right.
