usmnt.
my relationship with the united states men's national football team is compicated. i ADORE the women's team. they are amazing champions, god bless them. and i gotta support the women who play the sport cause women are great.
but when it comes to the men, its kinda a love-hate relationship.
i mean, i love them...WHENEVER THEY DON'T PLAY AGAINST MEXICO.
when they play against mexico, i ABSOLUTELY HATE THEIR (OUR, CAUSE I'M AMERICAN TOO, LOL) MOTHERFUCKING GUTS. ESPECIALLY THEIR FANS. so oBNoXIoUSssss.
i'm just as obnoxious, with my USA! USA! USA! chants whenever ol' glory plays.
and here is the deal.
my first love when it comes to nt's was la seleccion mexicana. my parents were both born in mexico, and that country has always been super passionate about football. so my whole life i grew up watching la seleccion, chivas de guadalajara, and la liga mx games. i grew up hating club america and club atlas. my love for usmnt came up when i was maybe twelve years old and i realized it was unfair of me to support one of my countries and completely neglect the other.
that's like a mother and her children, loving one more than the other, and ignoring the other.
so my love for usmnt is fairly new-ish, doesn't mean i love the us any less than mexico (it just means i support the seleccion just A LITTLE BIT MORE).
added to my complicated emotions on this team, is the fact that THERE ARE FIFTY STATES IN THIS COUNTRY. fiFTY FUCKING STATES TO CHOSE FROM, AND THE UNITED STATES CANNOT MANAGE TO PULL OFF A SUCCESSFUL TEAM.
yes, the seleccion had their problems in 2013, but they fixed them. so i forgive them.
BUT THE US.
FIFTY STATES.
YOU ONLY NEED TWENTY-THREE MEN.
how is it that you cannot create a working team?
4-1 loss against IRELAND.
IRELAND.
granted that ireland has been doing pretty well for themselves in football, but STILL. that was like mexico losing to BELARUS, whose favorite sport is HOCKEY (again, wtf mexico?).
anyway, let me just cut my rant off there.
and if you're from ireland or belarus, congratulations to you. i honestly love underdogs, so in a way, i was both upset and happy and surprised when ireland beat usa and when belarus beat mexico. hats off to you!
