huge disclaimer: i do not hate salvadorians. i'm just sharing a bit of personal experience.

why do salvadorians and central americans hate mexicans?

i know this is true because my cousin's husband is from el salvador and we are from mexico and he's constantly criticizing everything mexicans do, every time i see him he's criticizing something. i feel like maybe cause he was born in el salvador and they have a different mentality there.

cause i have friends who's parents were born in el salvador and they were born here in the US and you really don't see that hatred.

so here are my bits of personal experience.

and let me just tell you now, i am aware that we mexicans are far from saints when it comes to this issue. sometimes central americans are provoked. but in my personal experiences, it has been the other way around. that's not to say i havent seen hatred against central americans done by mexicans cause i probably have, i just cant remember right now.

when i was in high school, just about to finish eleventh grade and the gold cup was starting and it would go on for a few weeks.

and so mexico, usa, el salvador and other CONCACAF countries battle it out to see who the best country is and who will represent concacaf at the confederations cup in 2013.

so one of the games was el salvador vs. mexico and some guy in my class, lets call him Anthony, started talking so much smack about Mexico. that their team is crap, that blah blah blah and that el salvador would slaughter them.

of course my peeps were not gonna stay quiet.

they shut him up by telling him mexico has always been better on the field.

and so the results proved, by a whopping 5-0 victory, that the better team was mexico and the next day Anthony bitterly admitted that mexico was the better team.

second example.

back to my cousin's husband.

so we went to a small get together just the family because this cousin has a sister who's birthday it was that day. so we went to eat cake and hang out.

and the husband was there, lets call him Bryan.

so Bryan was there and that was the day of the final with Germany vs Argentina in which the albiceleste lost.

my cousin was telling me Bryan is a huge soccer fan like me and that we'd probably get along. so we started talking football and the moment he opened his mouth, i wanted to punch his teeth in. he asked me if i had watched the mexico game with a mocking smile. and i said yeah. and he told me he only watched it to laugh at their misery.

so i said 'excuse me for a sec.'

and i went and told my cousin her husband is a jerk.

she asked me why and i explained. and so she said. "oh yeah, we were at his brother's house the day mexico lost and they were watching. and in the part where gio and marco get on their knees and pray for the dutch guy to miss the penalty, they were laughing and saying 'oh stupid mexicans. praying cant help you now.'"

that seriously boiled my blood.

cause fuck a stupid rivalry. you just don't laugh at someone's misery like that.

i for one have never done it.

and i stayed on the other side of the room with my cousin and he still tried to talk footbal with me and kept bringing up the mexico game with a laugh. and guys, i really tried to restrain myself, but i couldnt. i literally told him this: "well, even if they lost, at least they got to go to the cup. at least my team was there, unlike others that got to stay home at watch all the good ones play on their tv set."

that shut him up good.

so then he changed the subject to talk about messi and we had a good conversation.

but yeah.

lets not hate each other.

we all come from similar ancestors, we speak the same language, and we have a few similar traditions.

it doesn't matter if you're

mexican.

salvadorian.

colombian.

argentine.

we are all one because we are all latin american.

so calm ur shit and get along mofos.

peace.
