mexico vs. netherlands

let me just begin by saying congrats to the netherlands.

they won, and quite frankly deserved the win.

but here comes my rant.

you guys don't understand how much this meant to me. it meant the entire world. the stage was set, mexico almost won. we were so close, just centimeters away from grazing the victory.

but alas, as mexico has been known for decades...we are el ya merito, the "almost there" team.

to clarify, i am not saying i am disappointed in my boys. i am very proud of them. they worked so hard and came so far after almost not qualifying last year. but they proved they deserved to be there, they surprised people when the odds were against them.

and i do understand you can't always win.

my boys already have the panamericanos under their belts, the torneo esperanzas de toulon, the copa oro, and the summer olympics.

especially at the olympics, they gave us the glory. they gave us hope.

they left everyone speechless and left us all with pride.

and today, they played their heart out on the pitch. they scored the first goal and maintained the win for most of the game.

due to a small error, netherlands were able to tie.

and the orange machine ended up winning.

but my pride in my boys is still strong. i am so happy that they made us all dream again and i will always support them.

it does break my heart that they're leaving though.

it breaks my heart because they tried so hard, they wanted it more than anyone. we all did. and i thought that if we wanted it enough, then it would happen. i truly believe we deserved it, and that's not to say netherlands didn't. i think both teams deserved it, but someone had to lose and in the end it was mexico.

what also hits me right in the heart is that by the time the next world cup rolls around, most of my boys won't get called for the team.

chicharito.

rafa marquez.

gio dos santos.

memo ochoa.

they'll all be too old to make it in the seleccion.

but i will always love them all.

i would just like to thank my boys for all their hard work. they gave us hope when all hope was lost. they made us dream that all things are possible when you really try and you want it more than anything.

thanks for the amazing times.

thanks for all the goals.

the blocks.

the passes.

the cielito lindo being sung in the stands.

the national anthem that you sang with pride.

thanks for making us all believe again.

this is not the end for the mexican team, this is the beginning. and just like we mexican's like to say, "vamos por mas!" let's go for more!

i may be crying tears of sadness today. but two years ago and three years ago, i cried many tears of joy for you guys.

my heart is with you always.
