The dangers of the apocalypse didn't only settle to the undead, those still clinging onto their lives were far sicker and more twisted, destroying any happiness that there had once been. At least the undead had no agenda, they wished to feed and had no preference or twisted logic that came with killing; people on the other hand wanted others to hurt, wanted to kill to save themselves or others. It sickened you to see what this new world had forced people to become, people who were once members of society were now cold-blooded killers, willing to do anything for their own personal gain.

Once you were from a humble family, a loving and kind-hearted family but by the time you were faced with other survivors of this hellish world, only your father and two sisters were left by your side. You were brought into a group of more survivors but if anything, only more loss came. You had learnt to love them all and inevitably one by one you lost them. You lost your father, your younger sister and even your elder sister Maggie's husband, soon all that was left was you and Maggie. Your heart ached at the thought of losing someone else you cared for so tried your best to not get attached to anyone else, no matter how your heart longed for them.

You had grown close to Tara since the two of you had made your way into the same group of survivors but knowing that loss was inevitable you tried to not to get close to her, tried to pretend that you didn't love her but you couldn't help but spend almost every day with her, every second of your survival, it became almost as though you were surviving for her. The two of you had been sent out to gather supplies and were currently resting in an old abandoned building, trying to get a good night's rest but it was unlikely with the fear that ran through you.

Surprisingly you had been able to get to sleep but you were soon awoken at a start from a horrific nightmare. It felt as though it were real, you had seen Tara mauled in front of you because you had failed to check everywhere for danger. You couldn't help but fear the truth behind it, that you could be the reason she may die. It hurt every ounce of your being. As you thrashed awake, you didn't mean to wake up your companion, but she was conscious with you, concerned by what had woken you up.

"What's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare," you whispered, tears fighting to escape. "You died. I can't handle everyone I love dying."

A soft pleasant smile curled onto her lips at you admitting your feelings for her but now was not the time to discuss such matters. Instead she wrapped her arms around you too, pressing a gentle, friendly kiss to your temple as she held you still, trying to comfort you.

"It's going to be okay; we are going to be okay," she smiled softly. "It's okay."

She cooed to you calmly before you were able to fell asleep into her arms.
