So like (two words that make my rants seem less serious lol), I think that one thing that makes wattpad such a different writing platform is that the authors get to interact with readers.

As much as I love that, I'm not a fan when the readers manage to influence the outcome of that writer's story.

I don't really mean the kinds of stories where the intention is for the readers to decide, because those are pretty cool I mean you'll comment "MAKE THE GIRL EAT THE FISH BUT THE FISH EAT THE GIRL!" And it will happen so that's cool lol

But I mean the kind of stories where the author legit finishes the book but then changes it, or writes an alternative ending, for this sole reason:

The readers weren't happy with the original ending.

And by me saying the readers weren't happy, I mean that the readers wanted the girl to pick bad boy over rich boy or some fucking bullshit like that

Just because 84% of your readers are #TeamSharkJaw doesn't mean that you should give in to their annoying insistence

You see, this annoys me because the author writes and publishes her intended ending first

But because everyone's arms (thumbs? because they're typing?) go up in protest, the writer is like okay okay, let's give the readers what they want.

I don't know if we're seeing eye to eye here, but here's why it bothers me.

(1) I feel like you don't respect your own work if you change your story to make people happy. Like, who are you writing for? Goddamnit

(2) I fucking hate reading alternative endings, it's such bullocks and a waste of my time like the fucking story fucking ended ages ago why are you making me think of it in another way dammit like you've still made me read to the end so you've gotten all the reads you can get from me like you legit don't need to make me happy with the ending ffs

One particular book sparked my hatred of alternative endings because I too was one of the readers who was TeamOneOrOther, which was the majority, but the author made it go the other way. This obviously pissed off (like some went full out, giving reasons why the protagonist should have done this and not what the author made her do and shit) and/or made some readers emotional (me included), and of course I was like WHYYYYY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAYYYYY but I got over it yea

I accepted the author's decision to end that way, despite the fact that it wasn't the way I wanted it to end. I got some sort of satisfaction in that I knew how it ended and I came to terms with that.

Then the MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRR deleted that shit and re-tailored the ending to what we all wanted

So I read it, I gave it a shot

But I didn't get the same satisfaction, ye know? Like I was rather meh about it

Like you know, those moments that you've to choose something over what you wanted but then when you get the chance to experience what you wanted, it's not as great as you imagined (like when I want cashew chicken but everyone wants sweet & sour chicken so I have to eat sweet & sour chicken and then we have cashew chicken because sweet & sour finishes but then it's not as good as I thought it would be)

(Jokes lol, chicken is always good🙌🏽)

Have any of you ever been through this? Am I communicating?

Bottomline is, I fucking hate it when authors rewrite their endings
