❝ congratulate me on what, sweetheart? ❞

━━━━★✼☆。━━━━

ELIJAH HAD THE cure. He had it with him, carrying it around the mansion upon his arrival to Mystic Falls after Rebekah and Elena had a run-in with him. Melody was excited, smiling so wide as she embraced the blonde, telling her that they did it, that finally after a thousand years, she was getting her happy ending as a human. Nothing could bring down her happy mood, that even the sickness that she still seemed to have after she ate something her stomach didn't agree with. She started to crave chocolate constantly and suddenly had an adoration for bacon.

Pregnancy never once crossed her mind.

Currently, the brunette was sitting at a table with the three living Mikaelson siblings, holding Rebekah's hand as she smiled at her proudly. She expected the eldest to give his sister the cure easily. After all, didn't she deserve it? Hadn't she waited long enough for this moment? To be human once more, to grow old, and to die as she pleased?

Rebekah was doing the best she could to convince Elijah to hand it over, seeing as he had asked her to give him reasons as to why she deserved it, why he should give it to her. "Elijah, being a human means a fresh start. I can grow old and have a family and fill my days with meaning, knowing that each one matters."

Klaus was enjoying himself way too much, laughing behind his hand. Melody slapped him hard on the arm many times but he never seemed to flinch at her touch, always grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Like right now, he was chuckling at his sister's reasoning. "Well, that was poetic."

"Well, if you can provide us with a more compelling reason for wanting the cure, Klaus, please," Elijah responded, gesturing forward with a challenging glint in his eyes, leaning back in his chair. He did glance over to Melody who had her arms crossed, glaring at her boyfriend as if she were trying to make him ignite into flames under her stare.

"Silas can appear as anyone. He got inside my thoughts, convinced me I was dying. He will torment me until I give him the cure. Melody can tell you all about that situation." He sounded so confident in himself that it was actually infuriating to listen to.

She rolled her eyes at his words. "And in doing so he will break down the wall to the Other Side," she pointed out with a slight hiss, her temper flaring, her accent prominent in her every syllable.

"So it doesn't trap him there when he dies. He wants to reunite with his lost soulmate." He looked to Elijah, trying to prove that he was the one who needed the cure. Melody was pissed at him because up until Silas attacked him, he was all for letting Rebekah have it. Now he changed his mind, his desire to survive to cause him to go against his words. "You of all should applaud his devotion."

Rebekah tried to remain calm while she fought with him. "He will open the floodgates for every supernatural being that has ever died." She squeezed Melody's hand under the table, letting her know that she was starting to get worried about this. Klaus would be furious if he didn't get what he wanted, as he usually always was. In reply, the brunette tightened her grip on her hand, giving her an encouraging smile.

"Including our dear brothers, Kol and Finn," Klaus argued. "We'll have our family back."

Melody couldn't help but scoff. "Not to be rude, but you did keep Finn in a box for most of his life, and you never did quite like Kol from what I gather." She gave him a sarcastic grin and his lips twitched in irritation. Why was she going against him? Couldn't she see that Silas was more important?

"Elijah, please."

The said brother sighed, weighing his options. He closed his eyes for a brief moment before he finally made up his mind, looking at the three. "Your personal discomfort might not be sufficient reason for putting the entire world in jeopardy, Klaus. I think our sister deserves a shot at happiness."

Rebekah smiled so big that it seemed like her cheeks would split right open. Melody grinned as well, truly ecstatic for her best friend. The other sitting next to them didn't look as thrilled, scoffing as he shook his head, throwing his hand up into the air. "Tell me you're joking. Tell me you're not fating me to an eternity of torture."

"I made my decision."

Klaus swiftly stood and went to lean down to speak in Rebekah's ear. Melody grabbed his arm before he could say a word, giving him the nastiest look she could muster. "Take a walk. But if you lay a hand on that cure or so much as make an effort to ruin this, you can kiss my ass goodbye."

She was undeniably serious about her words. Because him betraying his sister's wishes, would be betraying Melody's whole purpose for striving to get the cure in the first place. And she wasn't sure she could be near him, knowing that he ruined Rebekah's only chance at finding happiness. Then she let go of his arm and he walked away without saying anything else.

The blonde beside her cleared her throat, carefully composing herself as she touched her hair, smiling at Elijah. She was clearly trying to stop herself from cheering and smiling. "Where is the cure?"

At the question, the noble brother sighed again, clasping his hands in front of him. "Rebekah, it's no secret that you are impulsive, emotional, and at times morally questionable. Prove to me this isn't just another one of your whims, that you know precisely what you are giving up here." Quickly the Original agreed. "I want you to live a day as a human. This day. No vampire privileges — no strength, no compulsion, no nothing. If you succeed, if you still believe this is what you want, the cure is yours."

Rebekah looked surprised, relaxing her body with resignation before nodding her head. Melody smiled at her, standing up from her chair. "Good luck, and remember our plan about Elena." She patted the top of her hand before walking out of the room.

———

Going to prom again was definitely not on Melody's list of things to do in her life. Been there, done that. She didn't have an actual date, going with Henry even though he wasn't a senior yet. Pan refused to let her go with anyone else but someone from their family. He didn't trust guys to treat his daughter with respect. And he also was overprotective. The only reason why she was attending was that Rebekah was going and this was the big day.

Elena Gilbert was dying at her own prom.

Melody had the spell ready that she was going to use on her. All she had to do now was wait for the perfect moment to get the job done, end the suffering for everyone. Bonnie was the only one who was skeptical. Caroline and Stefan were on her side, Damon joining their side not too long ago. The time had finally come. The plan was simple. The Salvatore brothers were to escort Elena, act normal, and keep her occupied. She wouldn't know what would hit her.

She hadn't said goodbye to Klaus when she and Rebekah left, giving him the silent treatment for his behavior from earlier. When they arrived, they went their separate ways. The blonde was trying to win Matt over, confiding in him to see if she could truly get through the night without using any supernatural abilities. Melody decided to go looking for Stefan.

Once she found him, Elena approached her, making the brunette roll her eyes in annoyance. The doppelganger smiled fakely at her, holding her arms out as she gestured to her own dress. It was actually Caroline's dress and Melody knew that. For once, in her life, Melody felt confident in what she was wearing. It was a gorgeous gray dress that she bought with her own money, pair with some black heels. She had her short hair curled, mascara and some eyeshadow to match her appearance.

"How do I look?" Elena asked her.

"You're kidding, right? You look like a total back-stabbing bitch." Stefan made his way over to them but she didn't stop herself. "It's a shame you ruined that dress. Caroline would have been doing it a favor."

Elena clenched her jaw, angry by her response. Before she could go to reply with venom, Stefan intruded, linking arms with the other female. "Melody, why don't you come dance with me, hm?"

She looked at him and smiled, taking his hand as she let him take her to the dance floor. Elena scowled at her, seeing the smug look on her face and the wink she threw at her. Once they were far enough away to be drowned out by the murmur of voices and music, Melody spoke. "I can't wait to kill her. It'll make my entire century."

He laughed softly, shaking his head, starting to dance with her. "Love the dress by the way." It wasn't meant to be a romantic compliment and she didn't take it that way, smiling at him. For one, he was glad that he was close to her again. Stefan was quickly reminded at how her presence, in general, was soothing, making him feel human. But he couldn't help but sense something off about her.

"Why thank you, bought it myself. And before you ask why I came here without a date, I'm in the middle of ignoring Klaus."

Stefan nodded, humming. "Ah, well, regardless, you know you have him wrapped around your little finger, right?" He knew it was true because no matter how big the fight was or what the two were arguing about, Klaus Mikaelson cared about her too much to let her go or break her heart in a billion pieces.

"If I did have him wrapped around my finger, he would let Rebekah have the cure. Instead, he's being a jerk, trying his best to convince Elijah that he deserves it more than she does. Because he is convinced Silas will torment him until he hands over the cure." She sighed, still dancing with him. "To be completely honest, I don't think Silas cares much about Klaus. Anyways, you sure you want to do this still?"

"Of course, but believe me, I think it's affecting Damon a lot more than it's affecting me."

She tilted her head to the side, frowning as her heart dropped in her chest slightly. "What do you mean?" She hoped the eldest Salvatore wasn't getting cold feet. Because that wouldn't be good. He could warn Elena, keep her from getting killed. What if he betrayed her?"

"Every time he tells himself that this is good for everyone, there's this part of him that just can't seem to shake her."

Melody pursed her lip, swaying with him in tune with the music. She now knew that he wasn't really talking about Damon. He was talking about himself. Yet, she didn't mention the fact that she knew. Because she could tell from the look in his eyes that he knew exactly what she was thinking. "That's normal, Stefan. You guys were in love, and that doesn't go away because you tell yourself you're done loving her and moving on with your life. If it was that easy, heartbreak wouldn't be a thing."

He looked over her shoulder at the wall before looking down at her. "Well, then how does anyone ever seem to move on?"

That she didn't know the answer too since up until this point, she had never been in love before. Klaus was her first boyfriend and her only boyfriend. She couldn't picture herself with anyone else. Because she was positive no one else would be able to understand her as he did. They fit together. Not like missing pieces to a puzzle, but like a painting full of color and hidden emotions. And she already knew what the drawing would be of: a fallen angel beside the devil.

"I don't know," she told him honestly, looking up at him. "But if being with Klaus taught me anything, it's that someday, you'll meet someone, you'll grow to trust one another, you'll fall in love without realizing it. And then suddenly, no one else matters but the person you love, and you'll move on without even thinking about it."

———

Bonnie's control was seeping away, crumbling because of Silas. Melody knew that Elena was going to go after her supposed best friend. That's when she knew that it was time. She followed her from a distance, watching the doppelganger pull the witch into a tented area. Her magic started to pump through her veins, feeling that burning sensation she adored so much.

"What do you want?" Bonnie asked in fear, backing away.

"For you to stop being a problem," Elena snapped back.

"So glad we're in agreement," Melody spoke up from behind her. The vampire spun to face her. "Except it's you who I want to stop being a problem." Elena attempted to vamp out, going to snarl at her but she was too slow. The fairytale woman clenched her fists, watching as the teen collapsed to the ground, screaming in pain. "Leave Bonnie." The girl didn't need to be told twice before running out of the tent.

Melody stepped forward, sincerely enjoying the power she was feeling in that very moment. A gust of wind swept through the tent as the dark magic started to manifest itself. She was in control this time, the dark veins not appearing, her eyes their normal hue. Elena cried out before she gasped, her eyes opening fast.

As she lowered her hand, releasing her magical grip, a smirk slowly appeared on her face. "You know, I went through so many ways to do this, how to kill you, and when to kill you. But Jeremy was the perfect opportunity." She took a step forward so she was standing above her. "When he died, I knew you would do something, fall to pieces. Then you turned your humanity off and burnt down your house with his body in it." She laughed humorlessly. "You're heartless to do that."

"But you have no humanity. . .or did because that spell I just did? Brought it back." Elena held her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I wanted you to feel the pain you caused everyone around you. I wanted you to know how everyone suffered because of you. You tried killing the Mikaelsons when all they wanted was to be happy and to be an actual family."

"No, you just couldn't leave them be! You couldn't let them try to mend their broken family. You made matters worse. You helped Esther and Mikael instead of telling them. You betrayed Elijah and Rebekah numerous times. You played Stefan and Damon like they were nothing but dogs. And you forced Jeremy to kill when he knew it wasn't right."

"It was you, Elena. Everything that has happened goes back to you and I won't let that continue. Because these innocent people deserve a chance at happiness; happiness you keep taking away from them. Caroline got cheated on, where were you to help her? Stefan was by your side and fought for you, where were you to thank him? Damon became devoted to you and you decided to shape him into the man you wanted, where were you to accept him as the person he was?"

Elena had tears streaming down her cheeks still, not sobbing, not begging, only glaring up at her. Melody shook her head in disbelief. "You claim to be better than Katherine but you're so much worse. Because at least Katherine admits to what she does and owns being the bad guy. You? You pretend to be innocent. And you ruin your own friend's happiness. No more. That ends right now."

Melody rose her hands, choking Elena. She took her time, conjuring a wooden stake in her hands as she moved closer to her. Then she made the doppelganger stand up, clutching her arm with her free hand. The two stared at one another for a long moment, neither speaking, neither making a move.

But then Elena seemed to process that this was exactly happening and started to squirm, trying to fight her off. Melody stood firm, not smirking at all as she stared at her with a neutral expression on her face. After over a year of knowing the female, the fairytale woman was reminded of when they had once been friends. It seemed so long ago, and it had been. Look where they were now.

"Goodbye, Elena. Can't say that it was nice knowing you."

Then she stabbed her through the heart with the wooden stake. The Gilbert girl gasped, one last tear falling down her cheek as her skin started to turn gray, veins extending all the way up to her face. And she finally closed her eyes, falling limp to the ground. Melody stared down at her, feeling her thirst for vengeance quenched. Staring down at her, she couldn't help but sigh.

What now? The whole point of this all was to kill Elena in the end. Now it was done. All that was left was seeing that Rebekah got the cure. But what was Melody to do now? What was her purpose? She started to walk out of the prom, leaving the body behind for someone to find. She honestly couldn't get herself to care about cleaning the mess up.

As she walked down the carpet that led to the tent which was hosting the prom, Melody stopped. The moon was high in the air, the trees standing silently, the branches looming over her, and everything was deathly quiet. She looked around her, feeling as if someone was watching her. She got a hunch, clenching her jaw.

Then she felt a whoosh of air behind her. Melody spun around, only to come face to face with Kathrine Pierce. Before she could react, she got knocked on the back of the head, falling unconscious into the vampire's arms. A smirk appeared on the doppelganger's face. If anything would get Klaus Mikaelson off her trail, it was this.

———

Klaus was worried, completely worried. Melody hadn't come back last night and Rebekah told him that she hadn't seen her after Elena had been killed. He thought that maybe she needed some time away, perhaps her dark magic had gotten the best of her. So he was going to call her family, see if they could locate her for him.

As he entered the parlor, he saw an envelope propped up against a glass decanter with his name printed on the front in neat, cursive handwriting. He crossed the room and picked it up, turning it over, and saw that it had a wax seal with the letter "K" imprinted on it. In his mind, he assumed that this letter was written by Melody, telling him that she was leaving him. Yet he opened it up and read it.

Klaus,

I hear Elijah has refused you the cure and in return, you have refused me my freedom. Shame on you both. But while you boys sort out your problems, I have one last thing to offer you. I've caught wind that there is a witch in New Orleans named Jane-Anne Deveraux plotting a move against your precious Melody. Though I did deliver her to the witch, hunt Jane-Anne down. Because what she has to say will rattle you so deeply to your core that chasing little old me will be the least of your concerns. It's been a fun five centuries, Klaus, but I've worn down too many good heels running from you. I hope you enjoy your new addition.

Love, and hate, Katerina.

———

Melody didn't know where she was. All she knew was that her head was pounding and that she threw up everything she ate at the prom. But wherever she was, it smelt like death. And it looked like it also. There were candles illuminating the night and whatever room she was in. Then slowly, her eyes started to adjust. She was in a bloody crypt.

The brunette sat up gradually, wincing and hissing before she finally was able to lay against the stone wall behind her. She heard footsteps, turning her head to see an unfamiliar woman enter the room. Melody glared, getting ready to use her magic at a moments notice.

"Who the hell are you? You know what, I don't really give a damn. Now I suggest you get out of my way before I incinerate you."

The female sighed, bringing over a wet washcloth. "I apologize for how you got here. But it's the only way we could get you to listen." She quickly held a hand up. "Before you say anything else, let me explain why you're here first. And I know this is going to be a lot to take in but. . .Melody you're our only hope. Klaus is the only way my people will be free." Melody gave her a confused look. "My name is Jane-Anne Deveraux, I'm a witch, and you're in New Orleans. And before I start to explain anything else I wanted to congratulate you."

She scoffed loudly, rolling her eyes. "Congratulate me on what, sweetheart?" Her title came out as an insult but the witch didn't flinch at her hostility.

Jane-Anne licked her lips, taking a deep breath as if she were about to tell her something important. And it was crucial, it was a big deal. Because what she was about to tell her was something Melody Mills had talked about with Klaus Mikaelson before. But neither of them expected it to come true. Especially not this early in their relationship. "Congratulations Melody. . ." her words trailed off as she took a shaky breath.

"You're pregnant."

———

And that's a wrap for Fix Her everyone! There will be no epilogue because there isn't really anything else I need to add. So this is the last part besides the thank you part I'm about to write.
