"(Y/N)!" Conan shouted at you from across the street.

"I'm not telling you anything, so stop asking." You groaned as you turned to look at the boy. The second your eyes landed on him, you felt as though someone was crushing the air from your chest.

He was waving at you, a smile on his face, but behind him a figure shrouded in darkness prowled ever closer, a grotesque scar across his eye. Panic filled you. You went to run across the road, but there was no opening in the speeding traffic. "Judo!" You screamed, praying he'd hear you over the cars. "Behind you!" He didn't respond.

Throwing caution to the wind, you charged forward. Horns blared, and cars swerved, but you kept going. Pushing ahead in a desperate attempt to get to the boy. A truck slammed on its breaks, before swerving around you like the other vehicles. For a split second your sight was blocked, and in that split second he was gone.

"No...nonono..." You whispered under your breath, the panic suffocating you. "Conan!" You shouted when you made it to the other side of the road. "Conan, where are you!" You howled in desperation. You ran down the sidewalk scanning every alley and road you passed. Then you spotted it. A single white rose dripping with crimson.

----------------------------------

You shot awake, your breathing ragged and heart pounding. You could do nothing to stop the tremor that rattled you from your core. You glanced around the room, struggling to slow your breathing. There was nothing to calm the overwhelming panic that corrupted your very soul. After all, you were alone. Conan had asked Ran if the two of you could stay at Dr. Agasa's to take care of Haibara, however things hadn't gone to plan. She'd told Conan that he could, but you could not. You'd tried to protest, but she'd insisted that you didn't need to be around someone sick with your compromised immune system. You'd seen the spot Conan was in, so you told him it was fine. After all, he needed to keep an eye on Haibara and find the bugs you'd told him were most likely present. However, you'd regretted that decision ever since. He'd been staying there for the past few days, and you'd barely slept.

You untangled yourself from your new bedding, and looked at the clock on your phone. 2:32 AM. You'd only managed to sleep for twenty minutes. Rubbing your dry eyes, you hobbled to the bathroom, and splashed some cold water on your face. When you looked up into the mirror, you weren't surprised. You were pale, and had dark bags underneath your eyes. The end result of lacking sleep and a failure to eat properly.

You glanced down at your phone again. You wanted nothing more than to call him to see if he was alright, but you knew he'd be either furious or worried that you weren't sleeping. Letting out a frustrated sigh, you headed into the living room, and sat cross-legged on the floor. You flipped through a stack of papers you'd been given a few days prior. You scratched a few notes here and there, trying to keep your mind distracted.

"I hate this class." You muttered under your breath, as you scribbled another note. The stack of papers was, in fact, all of the homework and assignments that had been assigned to your class for the past week. You'd been lying to Judo since the very beginning about one thing in particular. You'd told him that Granny would tell the school you passed away. In reality, she told them you were terribly ill. They gave her all the assignments you'd missed at the end of every week, and you sent them back to the old woman a week later. Sure, it wasn't the safest idea, but you didn't want to be held back if you got back to normal. The thought of being held back a year while Judo moved on bothered you, so you kept doing homework in secret. On the off chance he was held back, you'd just flunk your finals and fail.

You kept answering questions and writing notes for hours, the trivial homework managing to distract your distraught mind. When you were finished with the tedious work, you checked the clock again. 7:51 AM. That's an acceptable time, right? You rubbed your stiff neck, and pulled up his name on your contacts. No... I should wait a little longer. He'll harass me to see if I slept if I call him now. You thought with a defeated sigh. You were about to put your phone back down, when another name caught your attention. A smirk pulled up the corners of your lips, as you selected the contact, and pushed call.

You listened and waited as the phone rang. "Hello!" Came the familiar peppy voice. You grinned. Maybe I can enjoy myself while Judo's away~

------------------------------------

Conan was nervous, to say the least. Haibara still had a cold, and he was still worried about (Y/N), but the problems had only continued to compound since then. He'd received a letter, more so an invitation, to an out of season Halloween party held by a woman by the name of Vermouth. It was someone from the Black Organization. Haibara had panicked when he'd read the name. That led him to believe this member was particularly dangerous. He'd already planned out most of the problems, but one still barred his way. He periodically checked the gas and water usage at his house, and this morning he'd noticed the numbers had gone down.

Now, power-enhancing shoes activated and stun-gun wristwatch prepared to fire, he headed inside. He quietly searched the downstairs, his mind racing with doubts and anxieties. He would never admit or voice his own worries, but they plagued his mind as they did with everyone.

Confirming that the downstairs was cleared, he crept up the stairs. He checked room by room, yet still there was nothing.

He silently stepped through the next doorway. That's when he saw it, a glint of light from behind the door. He spun to face it, and got doused in the face with water. He glowered, past the water that poured down his face, at the one holding the water gun. His mom.

"What are you doing here?!" He shouted, but his mother didn't get the chance to reply.

"Sorry, Judo, but I can't give you passing marks on that performance." A snarky voice hummed from right behind him.

He turned and glared at the grinning girl that stood in the doorway he'd just come through. "And what are you doing here with her?!" He growled.

"Is that even a question? I was bored and alone, so I found myself some company. Would you rather I have called Kid to keep me company~" (Y/N) mused. She snickered at the look of annoyance that was plastered on his face, before turning to his mother. "Ten points Mrs. Kudo. You hit him right between the eyes."

"I got good with my aim when I was practicing with real guns for a movie role." His mother chirped happily.

He was going to interrupt, when (Y/N) turned back to him, a frown plastered on her face. He wasn't sure why, but the look made him hesitate and lose his train of thought. "Now then. You, sir, are terrible at stealth!" She barked, her tone entirely serious. "Have I taught you nothing about sneaking? I mean, who sneaks up the center of the stairs?! Walk near the edges where the wood has the most support. It causes the least creaks." She continued. He was about to protest, tell her that didn't matter, but she wasn't done. "However, that's not why I'm mad at you right now. What really pisses me off is you didn't bother looking behind the door before you entered! What if that had been one of the bad guys?" She snapped.

"Alright, I get it." Conan tried to ease her growing annoyance, but it backfired.

"No, it's not alright! Everything is going to shit, and there are a lot of scumbags closing in, yet you thought it would be fine to enter a dark room without checking literally the most obvious hiding place!"

"I'm sorry, okay. I'll remember next time."

-----------------------------------

"Fine." You grumbled. You were still fuming mad, but you didn't feel like getting into it while Mrs. Kudo was there. You knew you were getting very mad about something seemingly trivial, but you couldn't help it. He had a bad habit of diving straight into dangerous situations alone. The fact that he wasn't even being that cautious infuriated you. Did your promise mean nothing?! You wanted to scream at the boy, but you bit your tongue.

"Will you tell me why you're here now?" He asked his mother, who just smiled.

"I was worried about you~" She hummed, an innocent smile still on her face.

Conan's eyebrows furrowed, and he glanced between you and his mother. You could tell he was in deep thought, but you didn't like the look in his eyes. Finally, he turned to look at you. "You should head back. Ran will get worried."

"Like hell I'm leaving now!" You protested. "I know you're planning something, and I want to be involved."

"I'm not planning anything. I just have some things I need to talk to my mom in private about. Since you aren't allowed to go to Dr. Agasa's you should go. It's not safe for you to be wandering around. Head home."

You felt anger bloom in your chest as though you'd chugged hot water. "I don't even know why I bother trying." You shook your head and turned away. Unable to stop yourself, you growled one last thing. "Just know. However you act, I'll respond in kind." With that, you headed down the stairs, and out the door.

-------------------------------------

Conan wasn't sure what (Y/N) had meant by her parting message, but it bothered him. He shook his head. Focus, you have a serious problem to manage. You can deal with (Y/N) when everything is settled down.

He returned his attention to his mother, who had on a displeased expression. "You shouldn't have been so mean to her."

"I had to be. She has no regard for her own well being, and she's in danger." He stated with a sigh. "Anyways, I need a favor."

Hello everyone! I'm still so sorry for my infrequency when it comes to updating. I appreciate all of your encouragement all this time. I'm very excited to start the next chapter. Those of you who have watched/read it will understand why. Just a heads up. It will only focus on the Judo side, not the Heiji side (though it will be mentioned).

Anyways, I'll get straight to work on the next chapter. I hope you enjoyed this one (though it is just a setup chapter). Have a wonderful day, all of you, and make sure to keep up all of the hard work I'm sure all of you have been putting towards your lives!
