chapter twenty-seventhe angel in the devil's playground

❝ sweet sadness ❞

━━━━★✼☆。━━━━

Alright so just a heads up, I know that it takes a while for someone to wake up from anesthesia (though it does depend on several factors) I couldn't find a drug that could knock someone out and then allow them to wake up like ten minutes later. If you know one, please let me know!

━━━━★✼☆。━━━━

THE SMILE ON her face never swayed as Melody kept the phone pressed to her ear, a cup of coffee in her hand. She leaned against the counter and brought it to her lips, suppressing a laugh. Alec was speaking quickly that it was almost difficult to keep up with him. He was sitting on Felix's lap, talking with his older sister back at the "modern" lost boy camp. Pan was sitting by them, smiling as he listened to his son talk to Melody. The fairytale girl had stayed in the kitchen which had just recently been finished. Her cup of coffee was warm in her grasp so she sipped carefully, casting glances at the door. She was expecting Klaus to come in.

Melody was heart-warmed to hear her brother's voice after so long. She had realized that she hadn't spoken to him since she left. And so it was nice talking to him though he hardly ever let her speak. Felix and Pan found it amusing because they hadn't seen the boy so happy. He truly missed his sister. Alec almost tried to climb inside the phone. He was sitting on Felix's lap but was nearly out of it from his excitement. Felix kept having to pull him back.

"And papa said that I can train soon!" For only three years old, nearly four, Alec was smart. He spoke well and everyone would gush over him because they found it cute. And it was. The little boy enjoyed reading so he spent plenty of time learning how to read with Belle. He also said he wanted to learn how to use a bow just like his "big sis".

She laughed, smiling wide at his enthusiasm. "Oh really? You might be better than me." Her words were meant to tease him but he took them seriously.

He gasped, going wide-eyed. "No! Sis is better than everyone." Felix laughed while Pan smiled. He leaned over and kissed Alec's head, making the boy smile again. Despite all of the things the two had done in the past, when Melody came into their lives and saved the town, she changed them and showed them that they had to be better. They weren't heroes or villains. They were just two people who cared about each other deeply and had a son. And because of that, they were much more affectionate and weren't to show their love for each other or their son.

"Definitely," Melody agreed. "I'm better than everyone in all of the realms." Then she smirked slyly. "But you're the cutest."

Alec blushed from the other line, ducking his head into Felix's chest. "Aw, stahp!" The way he said the word made her laugh again. Felix took the phone from the boy and put it to his ear.

"You made him blush, Mel."

Melody laughed harder, setting her cup down. Klaus overheard her and walked to the open door of the kitchen. He stood at the entrance and watched her, listening. She completely forgot to keep checking to see if he was there. The brunette was so wrapped up in the conversation that she missed the smile Klaus tried to contain.

He was happy that she was so close to her family. Melody couldn't live without them and did whatever was necessary to protect them. Klaus admired that just as much as he admired everything else about her. She could be stubborn when called for, was extremely sarcastic, and always gives people a chance unless she didn't deem them worthy. He was an example. What the hybrid couldn't comprehend was that after all of the things he said to her, after what he did to her, Melody still treated him as a friend and as someone she could—maybe already did—care about. But, of course, he had his doubts and still told himself that she would see the monster and would leave.

"I'm sorry, Alec." The boy didn't go back to the phone and so she called out softly, "Alec". Pan gave his son a stern look and so he grabbed back the phone and put it to his ear. She heard that he was there.

He scooted to get comfortable and then replied, "I'm not cute, Mellie. You are!" She smiled, finally looking over to see Klaus there. Melody blushed slightly and he grinned, staying there.

"Oh, so I'm not beautiful then?" Melody teased.

Alec gasped again, getting up from Felix's lap. "No, no no! You very beautiful and Klaus better know it."

When he said that, the hybrid couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Melody laughed with him. She tried to dim down her smile, pulling the phone away before putting it back and saying, "I agree. But I have to go so tell dad and Felix I love them, okay?" The boy said he would and then she hung up, looking at Klaus who was smirking at the doorway. "Stop. Leave him alone." She went over and slapped his arm. "His only three, Klaus."

Klaus shrugged, leaning close. "He was wrong." She raised an eyebrow, looking offended. "You're not beautiful." When her face fell, he smirked and then said, "You put goddesses to shame, love."

Melody slapped his arm again, smiling shyly and blushing again. "Quit it." She appreciated the compliment and her reaction showed it. The brunette didn't know how he got that type of response from her. If it were anyone else, she would've just ignored them or punched them in the face. But Klaus was different.

He grew serious. "What do you plan to do once this all blows over?"

Melody moved back to the island counter where her coffee was and grabbed it, taking another sip before it got too cold to drink. "What do you mean?"

Klaus followed her and stopped on the other side of the island. He attempted to keep an emotionless mask which only raised confusion in her. "I mean, when my family has been returned and they move in, what will you do? Do you plan to stay or will you continue to live your dream of traveling?"

She frowned, realizing that she hadn't put much thought into that. He had a point though. What was she going to do? From the look on Klaus's face, she knew right away that he wanted her to stay. The fact she just knew almost scared the shit out of her because she could see it in his eyes. Klaus was trying to hide it and if she hadn't spent a few months with him, she would've never known. "I don't know. I'm kinda just..." He looked expectant and so she finished, "...going with the flow. But I know that you'll be a part of my future. I just have that feeling and my gut usually never wrong."

Without her notice, Klaus's hand that had been gripping the stool at the counter, relaxed and he stared at her with shook for a moment. Before he could reply, a familiar enemy entered the nearly finished mansion, calling out for them. Melody clenched her jaw and Klaus pushed himself back leaving the room to meet up with Stefan.

She followed after him, seeing the Salvatore in the main room. Klaus looked annoyed that he interrupted their conversation. "I'm surprised you're still in town. I gave you your freedom, you could have gone anywhere."

The vampire shrugged. "I live here, Klaus."

Melody crossed her arms over her chest. "Technically he was here first. Does someone need to brush up on their history of vampirism?"

He ignored her sarcasm. "You know, I don't like your hybrid friends, Klaus. They're everywhere, kind of like fleas. I want them gone." She and Klaus both gave him a look that questioned what he just said. Melody—deep down—knew that the Original would never give up his hybrids unless it harmed his family or himself. She didn't like them either but Klaus had them around so she was forced to see them every single day as they watched her movements. They always made sure she wasn't going to die because apparently, Klaus ordered them to make sure nothing happened to her.

"Yeah, well I kind of like having them around," Klaus explained. "You know, I'm hurt. I hoped that when I freed you, we'd pick up where we left off. But here you are, guzzling vervain like the rest of them, I'm sure. So much for friendship."

Stefan scoffed, shaking his head. "Friends don't strip friends of their free will."

Klaus nodded when Melody gave him a look. She knew that Stefan had a point whether she liked it or not. "Okay, granted, yeah, that was a little extreme, but I get a little moody. Just ask my siblings or Melody." She nodded too. "Speaking of whom, isn't it time you handed my siblings over?" Stefan then threatened him rather than reply to his comment. "Hmm. You see, if you continue to threaten me, I'm gonna be forced to retaliate. Kill people. And it will get messy again."

The fairytale woman drew in a sigh, biting her lip. She looked at Klaus whose shoulders were tense. Making the choice, she crossed over to him and stood next to him. "He means it, Stefan. Just give back the coffins and no one else has to get hurt. Things don't have to get bloody."

"Always the hero," Stefan snarled. "Do whatever you want, I don't really care. Or you know what? Maybe I do. Maybe I care so much, that I'll drop Elijah in the Arctic."

She grabbed Klaus's arm when he took a step. Killing the Salvatore now would be worth it but not smart. They needed him alive to tell them where the coffins were. If he were to die, they'd be screwed and would be left running around trying to find them. Stefan had leverage and now he could do whatever he pleased because that's just how it worked.

"Well, maybe I'll be willing to lose one brother if it meant killing yours," Klaus threatened, glaring fiercely.

He was lying and the two other people in the room knew it. Elijah was the most important brother to Klaus despite what Melody wanted to believe. The two were bonded together and no matter what they did to each other, they still were family. And that was something she admired.

The two continued their stare down until Mindy—one of the hybrids—entered, looking at them with a concerned expression. "Is everything okay?"

"Everything is fine, Mindy. Stefan was just leaving after failing to make his point," Klaus replied, moving to leave the room.

Melody instantly knew that that was the wrong thing for him to say. She saw Stefan's hand twitch with anger. The brunette moved towards Mindy. "Stefan don't—" It was too late. Stefan grabbed the saw from one of the tables near him and sped to Mindy, cutting her head clean off with it. She gasped, reeling back in shock.

Klaus turned back around and saw, his eyes filling with rage. Stefan threw the bloody saw back on the table, extending his arms. "Well, one down. You may want to, ah, send the rest of them away before it gets messy, again."

The two watched him flash out of the mansion. Melody suddenly felt sick, seeing the headless body. She pushed past Klaus and to the bathroom. Klaus clenched his jaw in anger, already feeling the veins creeping up. When she emptied the contents in her stomach, the woman put a hand on her forehead, laying her head on the seat.

When she didn't know was that while she was sitting there, Klaus had made another hybrid take the body out of the house and was in the middle of instructing Tyler to bite Caroline for revenge. He was furious that what Stefan did had that type of effect on Melody. He wanted them to pay for not only killing one of his hybrids but for what he did to the fairytale woman. Klaus didn't even care that all he could think about was her.

Melody stayed there after cleaning herself up. She sat on the bathroom floor with her head in her hands. Klaus entered, seeing her there, and crouched down, putting a gentle hand on her back, rubbing softly. He didn't even feel guilty for the fate that a certain blonde vampire was going to receive. "Are you alright. Do you want some water?"

She nodded slowly. He flashed out of the room and returned not long after with a glass. Melody lifted it to her lips and drank greedily, leaning up against him. "Sorry. I've just never seen—"

"Don't apologize, love. You're fine." Melody gave him a small smile in response, finishing off the water. He smiled back slightly. If only he knew what was going to happen later that day.

———

The Wickery Bridge restoration project at the Founder's hall was by far the worst party she'd ever been too. Not to mention it was excruciatingly boring. Melody had gone with Klaus after she calmed down. He was hesitant at first but then when she started firing sarcastic comments, he figured that she was fine and let her go. So they stood with Carol Lockwood, talking like civilized people. The word made her want to laugh because the two of them were far from civilized people. More than half of the people there would be scared out of their minds if they found out what they were.

Carol was kind, complimenting Melody's outfit which Klaus had bought for her despite her cursing him out and saying she didn't want anything. She smiled in response to the comment,  seeing Klaus's victorious smirk out of the corner of her eye. He had leaned down to her ear while the mayor was preoccupied and whispered: "Told you, love". Melody had flicked him off.

"You know Carol when I think of a mayor I think of an old fuddy-duddy, but you really have changed my perception!" Klaus told the widow. He had been flattering Carol for the past five minutes and Melody was growing tired of his games, giving him a look throughout.

She thanked him which nearly made the brunette roll her eyes. Could she see that the Original was trying to earn her trust? The only thing he cared about was having allies. And though she didn't like the plan, Melody couldn't lie that Klaus was being smart. When their chatter faded, Carol smiled slightly. "I hope I'm not prying but, are the two of you together?"

Melody went wide-eyed, shaking her head. "No!"

Klaus, on the other hand, simply smirked and replied, "I'm trying to win her heart over." He winked at Carol. "It has proven to be quite a challenge."

The woman next to him began to use her magic to make him hurt, just not enough to make him scream in pain. Klaus clenched his jaw in reply. Carol didn't notice. "Aw, well in my personal opinion, the two of you would make a great couple. A man always needs a woman who can set him in line."

Melody smirked, laughing slightly. "Thank you, Carol. I couldn't agree more." Klaus then put his hand on the small of her back, signaling that she better release her magic bind. She let it go for a few seconds just to piss him off and then let go. Once he was clear of her magic, the hybrid narrowed his eyes though there was a bit of amusement. He liked it and she knew it.

"Look at what the cat dragged in," someone said from behind them. They turned to see Damon standing there with a scowl. "Nice vest."

Klaus kept his hand placed in the same spot on Melody. It didn't go unnoticed by Damon. "Thank you very much, good to see you, Damon. Carol and I were discussing whether you would be the other big benefactor."

The tension between the two wasn't hard to miss and yet Carol dismissed it entirely. Melody felt awkward for speaking up but someone had to cut the feeling of the atmosphere eventually. She gave the Salvatore a forced grin. "Come on Damon. What do you say? Carol here is itching to get started on the renovation and I know other people are too."

Damon turned to Carol, stilling glaring at the two. "Carol, don't take this the wrong way, but do you realize that you've been kissing the ass of an immortal hybrid who ruined your son's life?" Now that earned an eye roll from the two immortal beings. They both were annoyed already.

"Oh, come now. Some would say that I saved it from all that nasty full moon business," Klaus replied. He looked to Carol with a fake look of comfort. "I've never had to go through it myself more than twice, to be honest, but still, I'm very sympathetic."

Carol fell right for it, nodding in agreement. Melody couldn't help but put her hand to her mouth, trying to hide her smile. Klaus saw and grinned slightly at the sight. "Klaus has promised to protect Tyler, Damon. And our town."

The vampire stared incredulously, not believing what he was hearing. "From who? His hybrids are the one the town needs protection from."

Melody finally looked back at him. "We have asked Stefan several times to return Klaus's family. The hybrids would have no use if they were returned to him." She didn't necessarily agree with how he dealt with his siblings. But she admired that he was willing to do whatever it took to get them back just like she would if her family in StoryBrooke were in danger. In that respect, they were the same.

When Damon shot her comment down, Klaus sighed. "That's what I thought, which is why we've come to an agreement with the Mayor." Melody felt a shiver run up her spine at the mention of that they were in this together. "You and the Council stay out of our hair, we stay out of yours. Your town gets protected, my hybrids get left alone and everybody will be happy. All you have to do is to get Stefan to stop decapitating our friends."

Damon looked furious. And even though he was, Carol nodded again. "Please Damon, just get your brother under control, or the Council will be forced to take action against him."

On second thought, he was enraged. Melody cleared her throat suddenly. "Excuse me but I have to use the ladies room." Carol gave her the directions and Klaus gave her a nod before letting her leave. She continued to the bathroom and entered. Once she finished, she went to the sink. The bathroom was decorated with expensive things. A double sink and one large mirror, a huge shower with a bath the size an of king bed just nearby. Where do people get all of this money from?

Melody brought the cold water to her face and placed her hands on either side of the sink with a sigh. Without any warning, her magic began to burn. Her eyebrows furrowed and she looked up to see Stefan right behind her. Her first reaction was to fight. So she conjured up a fireball and right before she shot it at him, Stefan flashed to her and stuck a syringe full of anesthesia in her neck. She fell weakly into his arms, her vision becoming blurry. And then just like that, darkness surrounded her like a blanket.

Carol had left Klaus alone to wait for the fairytale woman and when a few minutes past and his gut told him something was wrong, he followed it to the bathroom where Melody was supposed to be. Meanwhile, Stefan was driving in his red car with the said female unconscious in the seat next to him. It didn't matter that his mind was screaming at him, telling him not to do it. Melody was innocent. She didn't deserve this. But he pushed away any ounce of guilt because this had to be done. Getting Klaus's hybrids out of Mystic Falls and getting his revenge mattered more than the person he used to call his friend.

What he didn't know was that the only reason why Melody didn't care about him as much as she used to is that he broke her trust. She focused on loyalty and those who never lied or kept secrets from here. And though both Klaus and Elijah kept secrets, they were loyal. Melody felt tied to the Mikaelsons she had met in a way that she couldn't explain. Perhaps it was her curse; maybe she was meant to have a place in their family all along. But what Stefan was about to do would destroy every last ounce of trust Melody had in him and would kill every last shred of love she held for him.

Damon called Stefan after seeing that his brother had disappeared. Stefan answered calmly, "Hello Damon." His brother looked to his side and saw Klaus returning from the hallway after finding the bathroom empty, a syringe on the ground.

"Stefan, what the hell are you doing?" Damon hissed.

His brother kept a monotone voice. "I'm making my next move. Let me ask you something...What will Klaus do if Melody were to die in a tragic accident?" Damon felt his heart stop for a second. "The two of them seem awfully close to you think? What would Klaus do if she got into a car crash and didn't survive?"

"No, Stefan. Don't do this."

The Salvatore hung up the phone, stuffing it in his pocket. Melody began to stir next to him and so he accelerated. Meanwhile, Damon had found Klaus and dragged him into the nearest room. He glared at the younger vampire. In a flash, he was pinned against the wall. The hybrid's veins appeared along with his glowing gold eyes and sharp fangs. "Where is she? What have you done with her?"

Damon grunted in pain. "Stefan has her."

Klaus let him go with his jaw clenched with anger. "Well, now he's getting desperate."

"He's gonna try and use her against you. Do what he says, get rid of your hybrids." The Original could hear the plea in his words. After all he had done to Melody, a bit of him still cared, unlike Stefan who was using her as leverage. He wasn't sure whether to be thankful or to be jealous. No. He didn't have time to be jealous.

He tried to force the image of her dying out of his head. What would there be left of his humanity? Despite who Klaus Mikaelson was, Melody Mills was his humanity no matter if he liked it or not. "Stefan wouldn't dream of laying a hand on her."

"You sure about that? He just tried to behead someone in the middle of a Council party. He's operating on crazy right now."

Deep down, Klaus knew that Damon was right. But if he showed the Salvatore that Melody had made her way into his black heart, then everyone would know he had a weakness besides his family. And though he told himself for years that love was weakness, the fairytale beauty still stuck with him and got to his head.  "He wouldn't kill her. He's bluffing."

"Maybe he is, maybe he isn't but if you don't want to believe him, believe me," Damon told him. He stepped towards him and pointed at his chest. "I know my brother better than anyone, and right now, I don't have a clue how far he is willing to take this. So if he says blink, I suggest you blink. Melody's life is at stake. And despite what you may think, you care about her and so do I. Don't break her heart like Stefan is about to."

———

The first thing she heard when she began to wake up was a low humming. Was she in a car? Her brain was fuzzy and her vision was blurry. "Klaus?" There was a scoff of disbelief and Melody made out a figure of a person next to her. "Klaus?" Witches that had passed on and were on the Other Side gave her a bit of strength to make out who it was beside her. "Stefan?"

"Bingo!" His tone with emotionless and she took note of it though it was hard to think. Melody pushed herself up but ended up falling right back on the door.

She licked her lips. "What... what's happening?"

"I took Klaus's family to make him suffer. I'm not gonna let him make himself a new one with his hybrids or find happiness with someone. He doesn't deserve it."

Melody strained to focus her eyes on anything. It was like she was aware of her surroundings and yet at the same time, she wasn't. Her hand found the door and she pushed herself up against the window. "I don't understand."

He sighed, accelerating again. "I'm going to crash into a tree, Melody so you'll die on impact." The brunette understood what he said and tears reached her eyes, fear creeping up her spine. No. Stefan wouldn't do this to her. He wouldn't...but he was. Just like that, her trust broke with a snap. "Klaus won't get rid of his hybrids. This is the only way. I thought about turning you but then you could still be with him. So killing you would be so much easier."

Stefan got out his phone. "Let's call him, shall we." The only time she was in this much fear was when Gold entered the hospital room and killed her. And that was when she couldn't remember anyone in her family. This was Stefan. Melody's body was frozen with fear, tears falling fast.

"Where is she?!" Klaus yelled through the phone. The woman in the car didn't even hear Stefan greeting Klaus. "You lay a hand on her-"

"Tell your hybrids to get out of town, Klaus."

The Original tried to listen for anything in the background to indicate that she was alright. He found nothing but a fast heartbeat and the sound of a car. "Well, that's not gonna happen until I get my coffins back."

Stefan looked over at Melody who was trying to use her magic but failing. Her mind was too uncertain, she couldn't think straight. The woman's heartbeat was so fast that it sounded like it was about to explode from her chest. "Okay, well then I'm gonna drive your precious Melody to her death. I decided a tree would do."

"I don't believe you, Stefan. You won't kill her."

The car accelerated again and Melody started to gasp. "St-Stefan please no. Don't do this, Stefan." Her words were slurred as if she were drunk. He managed to make them out and so did Klaus. Everything he had was about to be destroyed. Despite everything, Melody cared about him in her own way and stood by him no matter what he did. If he were to kill the entirety of the Mystic Falls gang, she would be mad at him. But not for long. Klaus couldn't lose her now.

Stefan put more pressure on the pedal, setting his sight for dead ahead at the line of trees. Klaus could hear Melody's cries. "What's going on?"

"Almost there, Klaus. When Melody's dead I'm going after your coffins. Say goodbye to your fairytale sweetheart."

Melody sudden felt a calm wave go over her body. Unbeknownst to her, the witches were saving her. The anesthesia wore off a bit, giving her enough energy to sit up and speak clearly without mumbling. "You forgot, Stefan. If I die, nature is unbalanced." He hadn't a clue what she was getting at. Because he didn't know why Klaus and Melody were close. "The witches won't let you kill me."

Her magic burned the anesthesia to the best of its ability. She focused on the road in front of her and then made the car stop with her magic. Klaus nearly sighed in relief. Melody yelled loud enough to make sure he heard her. "Wickery Bridge."

Klaus flashed away from the Founder's Hall and to the location. Stefan got out of the car and was about to run for it when Melody made him stop. Her magic tightened around him, giving her enough time to exit the car and stand behind him. Tears glistened in her eyes. "How could you? After everything? I get it, we haven't talked a lot since Klaus arrived but you had no right to do that to me."

Stefan spun to her though he couldn't move forward or backward. "You're his weakness, Melody. I had no choice.

"You always have a choice, Stefan. I get it. Siding with Klaus and abandon you was wrong and I'm sorry. It's just I've waited years to know the truth. My whole life up until I was thirteen was a lie and when I found out that Klaus and Elijah knew about my curse, I focused on it. Can you blame me though?" He didn't say anything and she frowned. "Were you really going to kill me?"

When he avoided her eyes, she took that as a confirmation. And then he said, "Yes". Stefan looked up at her, seeing a tear fall. "Klaus needed to get the message."

Melody scoffed and then walked toward him. The second she got in arms reach, she slapped him across the face. "Screw you. I never want to see you again. You come near me or Klaus, I'll make you suffer." She pushed him back and Stefan gave her one last look before flashing off into the night.

Klaus arrived to see a broken brunette standing alone in the middle of the road. The rest of her tears were contained. But he could see the struggle she was having with herself despite him standing behind her. "Are you alright, love?"

She wanted to tell him yes. Yes, she was perfectly fine and nothing was wrong. The years she spent telling Regina that she was fine, that she wasn't hurting rang in her ears. Even after the Dark Curse, she repeated the line over and over to herself and the people around her. Why couldn't she bring herself to say it now?

"No." Melody turned to him. "I'm not okay, Klaus. I've never been okay." The confession lifted a huge weight off her shoulders and she ran into his arms. He hugged her to his chest, letting her cry.

He wanted to tell her that he sent a vial of his blood with Tyler Lockwood to save Caroline's life before he arrived. Now wasn't a good time. Klaus felt for her. The walls she built around herself, holding in the tears she hardly ever shed anymore broke as soon as Stefan confessed. "I'm sending my hybrids away." She pulled back to look at him. "They will all be gone by morning."

"Why?" she questioned. Her eyes that were still full of tears looked back at him with confusion.

Klaus put his hands on her shoulders. "Because Stefan won't give up until their gone." He was about to say something else but then swallowed it. "And he might try to kill Elena next and I can't have her dead. She's the source for my hybrids."

Melody narrowed her eyes and then replied, "Bullshit." He raised his eyebrow, surprised by her sudden cursing. She sniffled and then wiped her eyes before continuing. "You were worried about me admit it."

"Find," he grumbled. "I was worried for a second. But then I remembered that you're a badass-" She laughed slightly despite the tears. "-and then I realized that you'd survive because that's who you are."

She smiled at him, wiping her eyes again. "Can we go home?" Klaus found himself trying to hide a smile but failing miserably. It was the first time he had ever heard her refer to the mansion as home. A warmth filled his chest as he thought of her feeling at home with him. Was she truly happy to be by his side even though she was losing all of the friends she made in Mystic Falls?

"Of course." He flashed them back to the mansion and up to her bedroom. Melody wiped her eyes once more and sniffled again, going over to her drawer. Klaus stood in the middle of the room and cleared his throat. "Do you need anything?"

Melody turned to him and pursed her lip. She wanted to tell him no that she didn't need anything. It was a lie though. She wanted—no—she needed him to stay. The tears were threatening to go over the edge again. Because what Stefan said to her kept repeating over and over in her head. "Yes. I just..." she clutched the shirt she had grabbed from the drawer. "I don't want to be alone."

Sobs racked through her body and right before she fell to the ground, Klaus caught her. "Shh, it's okay, love." Her pajama top was forgotten by the brunette as he took it from her hand and placed it back in the drawer. Klaus led her to the bed and sat them both down. Melody cried, her forehead lying on his shoulder.

This wasn't what he wanted for her. Melody had been through enough pain, enough sadness, loneliness, and tragedy. But that was just who she was. He never wanted her to hurt because of him. But that was who Klaus Mikaelson was. The two of them were opposites. Melody was the angel who landed in the devil's playground. Somehow, someway, the angel made its way closer and closer to the devil, shying away at times but then continuing on. Then once the angel reached the devil's side, she reached and wrapped her arms around his neck delicately.

Her beauty was indescribable. Her kindness was strong. Her stubbornness was magnificent. Her touch was art. But her words... oh her words were so sweet like honey. They were a gentle whisper that tickled the devil's cheek and made him smile in his twisted way. She was a warrior, ready to fight. She put him in his place when he needed it. He needed her. He wanted her.

Every time she was near, the devil would watch her closely, soaking in every movement she made. And he wondered what her kiss would be like. Would it be sweet like her words? Would it be uncertain? Would it feel like nothing at all? Despite all of the questions he had, the devil took a risk and planted a single kiss to the angel's cheek. She smiled up at him and kissed his cheek back, brushing lightly. He was wrong about how it would feel. Her kiss felt euphoric.

Now if anyone would have walked into Melody's bedroom at the Mikaelson mansion, they would've seen a brunette girl lying on her bed with her head laying on the Original hybrid's chest, her eyes closed as she allowed sleep to welcome her home. And they would've seen Klaus Mikaelson pressing a single kiss to the top of her head, closing his eyes and falling asleep right beside the angel to his devil.
