( chapter seventy-two )

FLEAMONT POTTER HELD HIS WIFES wand over his head, shaking his head slowly as she continued to try and reach it.

Euphemia reached for her wand once more, before she crossed her arms, looking up at her husband with a cross expression upon her face.

"Fleamont Potter, you give me my wand this instant. Or so help me-"

"Mia, I'm not going to give you your wand back." He responded, his voice calm and soft as he talked to her.

"Fleamont Potter-"

"Mia, I said no."

It was now Euphemias turn to shake her head as she looked up at her wand once again, before she sat down in one of the chairs at the table.

"Fleamont, we can't just let them get away with it." Euphemia spoke a frown making its way onto her face as she looked down at her hands.

"They've scarred those children, most likely for life. Did you see the state that that young girl was in? Because of her own parents." Her words were becoming rushed and her voice was raising slightly.

Both of their hearts broke for the Black children.

They hated that they didn't get them out of there when Sirius came to them almost two years ago, when they saw how he was and how he acted and they just left the other two in that awful place.

They hated that after all Sirius told them about his home life, they still didn't go and take Cassie and Regulus away from Grimmauld Place.

They knew now, that if they were given the option, they would do it without a second thought.

"You remember how Sirius was when he came to us, don't you?" She asked, finally looking up from her hands and at her husband once again.

Fleamont was now sitting down opposite his wife. Her wand was resting on the table, but she didn't make a move to grab it.

"Of course I do." He replied, his voice barley above a whisper.

"Then you remember how love deprived he was from people who weren't James, Peter and Remus, or even Cassie." Euphemia continued, her eyes locking on her husbands.

"You remember how he wouldn't say his opinion on anything, he wouldn't say how he liked something even if he completely despised the way we had done if for him. You remember that he didn't sleep at night, and he drank so much coffee during the day to keep himself awake."

Fleamont nodded once, the frown on his face only growing.

"You remember how afraid he was, of practically everything."

Fleamont let out a large sigh as he nodded some more.

It was hard to forget how Sirius was, it made them both worried as he was so different from the Sirius that came to stay with them every summer.

They were just lucky that they James already knew him and it was even luckier that James knew Sirius better than almost anyone.

It had only taken Sirius a few weeks to return back to his normal self, but the weeks when he wasn't, it was heart breaking to seem.

"We don't know Cassie and Regulus." She carried on, closing her eyes and moving her hand so that her head could now rest against her palm.

"But we still need to be here for them."

"And we will be." Fleamont spoke up for the first time in a short while.

"We're going to there for those children, for as long as we can be." Fleamont took in a deep breath, looking at Euphemias wand.

"But Mia, while we know what Orion and Walburga are doing is wrong."

Euphemia looked up at Fleamont once again, her eyes now slightly watering with tears.

"They're high up in the ministry, they will have protection all over them. And as much as I saying it, it will be up to Regulus and Cassie if they want to press charges-"

"That's bullshit-"

"But it's the truth, we can't do anything without their permission."

Euphemia knew that what Fleamont was saying was true, as much as she wished it wasn't.

She let out a small sigh, wiping the tears that had fallen from her eyes.

"I'm still going to attack them if I ever see them."

Fleamont let out a small chuckle, his hand grabbing Euphemias. His thumb instantly ran over the back of her hand in a reassuring way.

"I wouldn't expect anything less."

・・・☽✥☾・・・

"Do you want a drink or something to eat Reggie?" Sirius asked his younger brother softly.

Sirius leant against the door frame into his room, one of his arms raised above his head. His hair was pulled back into a small ponytail, a few small strands framing his face. He was wearing a Queen shirt, which was a soft grey, Regulus remembered a fight that Sirius and their parents had when he came back to Grimmauld Place wearing the shirt. Sirius' pants were black, ripped skinny jeans, and his shoes were a pair of worn down black trainers.

Regulus was sitting on Sirius' bed, his back resting against the wooden backboard of the bed.

He was staring at a spot on the wall, one of the only spots that wasn't taken up by posters, drawings or pictures.

His eyes were swimming in a few tears, but no-one looking at him would notice.

Regulus was still wearing the clothes that he had been wearing during the meal with the Rosiers, not having the energy or motivation to change.

His full trunk was resting next to Sirius' bed, it was open and half of his clothes had been put away and into the wardrobe but half of his clothes were still in the trunk.

Cassies trunk was in James room, as that was where everyone said it would be best she stayed.

They all hoped that having James close to her would make her feel more at ease, as they didn't yet know if she would be in anymore pain.

Regulus didn't look at Sirius as he shook his head, bringing a frown onto Sirius face.

He stepped into his room and sat down on the edge of the bed, his knee bounced up and down.

The pair sat in silence for a few minutes, neither of them knowing what to say.

The air was full of unspoken words that weighed down on both of their shoulders. All of the words mixed with the tension in the room, creating an uneasy atmosphere.

Sirius let out a small sigh, looking over his shoulder at Regulus, who now had a few tears silently running down his face. Sirius frowned more as he moved to go and sit next to Regulus.

Regulus didn't move as he was wrapped in a hug by his older brother, nor did he move when Sirius began to whisper reassuring things into his ear.

Regulus didn't move when Sirius pulled away from the hug a few minutes later, still looking at his brother with a frown, nor did he move when Sirius stood up, walking back over to the door.

Regulus' eyes moved as Sirius walked out of the room. He sent another worried glace back at his brother, whose eyes shot back to staring at the wall, as he turned around.

Regulus knew that out of Sirius and Cassie, Cassie was definitely always the one who was better with words and feelings. While she may not have been the best with her own feelings, she was definitely better with other peoples.

She would know how either of her siblings were feeling even before they did.

She would know when Regulus felt stressed because of work a few days before he realised himself. Cassie would notice the difference in his attitude, how he would be more irritable and tired even if he had gotten a good night's sleep.

Cassie would also notice when everything would become too much for Sirius ages before he would notice. She would realise that he wasn't as happy and cheerful as be normally was, keeping to himself rather a lot more.

It was as if she knew the two better than they knew themselves sometimes.

The air was still full of unspoken words, but it seemed as if they would go unspoken for a while longer.

・・・☽✥☾・・・

James was sitting in the living room, his eyes were scanning over the sofa that Cassie had been laying on only hours before.

The image of her covered in cuts, scrapes and bruises was fresh on his mind. As if it was burned into his brain so he could never forget it, no matter how hard he would try to do so.

He hated it.

That she was in so much pain and it felt as if he couldn't do anything apart from watch as his mum did everything — Euphemia had always been the best at healing spells. James would say she might even be better than Madam Pomfrey and while he knew that he wouldn't have been able to help even if he was allowed, he still couldn't help but feel annoyed at himself.

James was so lost in thought that he didn't notice Sirius walk into the room and sit besides him until he felt a poke in his side.

He shook his head, his brown hair falling onto his face slightly, to shake himself out of his daze before he turned to look at Sirius.

He instantly pulled Sirius into a hug as he noticed the other boys bottom lip quivering and the tears that were pooling in his eyes.

"I hate this so much." He whispered as James hugged him.

"They're both in so much pain and I feel as if I can't do a fucking thing to help." He continued, his voice barley above a whisper now.

James nodded, pulling away from Sirius and passing him a tissue.

"I feel the same." He replied with a small sigh, he ran a hand through his hair as he turned so that he was facing Sirius.

"Regulus won't speak to anyone and Cassie still hasn't woken up. I'm worried about both of them."

"Mum said that Cass may take a while to wake up, her body went through a lot in a short amount of time." James said to his best friend, who didn't seem to find any comfort in the words.

"And Regulus may still be in shock." Sirius raised an eyebrow.

"You said he hardly ever disobeyed your parents, and when he did, it was only something small. He just ran away from home Sirius, he's still probably processing the whole thing in his mind."

Sirius made an 'o' shape with his mouth, before he nodded.

"He's probably also worried about Cass, I mean, he was the one who saw her in the state for the longest." James took a deep breath.

"He probably heard her screaming in pain."

He bit the side of his cheek to stop the few tears that were making his way into his eyes from falling.

Sirius nodded once again, opening his mouth to speak before he was cut off by a loud scream.

The scream sent shivers down both of their spines, it made their skin crawl and goosebumps appear on their arms.

It was a haunting scream, one of pure terror.

The two instantly stood up, turning to face eachother with only one word.

"Cassie."
