Chapter 3 : Surprise

James's POV,

"How did you guys get here?" I asked them as we walked out of Maggie's drive.
"We all met at Brad's then his mum gave us a ride, we wanted to surprise you, and when we got to your house your mum told us you were out, and then she told us to go next door, where we found you and a beautiful girl teaching you how to ride!" Tris said and smirked.

"She's a friend!" I made my point clear and saw Connor and Tris look at each other and raise an eye brow. I looked over at Brad who was just looking at the floor.

"You alright?" I asked him.

"Why wouldn't I be?" He asked and smiled.

"Just checking!" I said as we went into my house and into the basement. My mum and dad converted it into a small music room, it used to be a laundry room, but it wasn't really used. It was small but big enough for us four to fit in.

"Shall we start practising The Wanted Glad you came?" Brad suggested. We all nodded and plugged in our instruments.

A few hours later mum called us for some lasagne she made, which was tasty, the boys loved my mums cooking, whenever they could they would be around for dinner.

"How's the new girl?" Mum asked and all eyes fell on me.

"She's nice!" I simply said.

"Nothing more?" Mum looked at me.

"She rides, does music and likes to run, so I found a running buddy I guess," I said and smiled. I didn't want mum thinking there was something between us.

After dinner we went into the drive and I text Maggie asking if she wanted to come out, go to the park or something.

Sure! I'll get ready and meet you in 10?

1 message to Maggie :

Sounds good! See ya!

I told the boys she was coming along and if they didn't mind. They didn't. They seemed happy she came, I just hope they won't do anything stupid.
She walked out wearing ripped blue skinny jeans and a top that said 'Believe In Yourself'. She had her hair down and light make up on. Not that she needed it. She had small black heels. I saw Brads eyes burn into her, I nudged him with my elbow.

"Hellloooo!" She said and gave us all a friendly hug.

"How's you been?" Connor asked as we walked.

"Great thanks, you guys rehearsed?" She asked us.

"Yeah, we will be filming at Tris's next week, so want it to be good!" Brad said.

"I'm sure it's amazing!" She gave us all a warming smile.

"James said you did music, what do you do?" Tris asked her.

"I sing, and I can play the guitar and a bit of piano, but that's about it, in the past I wanted to start a YouTube channel, but I chickened out!" She said nervously.

"Sing!" I blurbed out before thinking about it.
"I really don't think that's a good idea," she said unsure as she sat on one swing, Brad on the other and the rest of us sat down by them.

"Please?" Connor almost begged.

"Fine, but if you guys go deaf, you can't blame me!" She said.

"Wait, what shall I sing?" She asked us. I thought for a while.

"Ed Sheeran, A Team?" I suggested. I remember her telling me earlier that she liked that song she nodded and took a deep breath.

"White lips, pale face, breathing in snowflakes," she sang. Her voce was perfectly in tune. She didn't hit a single note wrong. I felt goose bumbs raise on my arms. She was good. No she wasn't good, she was amazing.
"And they say, she's in the class A Team, stuck in her day dream, been this way since 18 but lately her face seems, slowly sinking wasting, crumbling like pastries and they scream the worst things in life come free to us..." She finished with her eyes closed and her voice was still echoing in my ears.

"Why did you say we might go deaf? Maggie you're one of the best singers I've ever heard!" Brad said his mouth still half open.

"We agree!" Connor said and Tris and I nodded.

"I really wasn't expecting this kind of response..." She looked down at her feet shyly. I got up and gave her a friendly hug and she accepted it.

It was starting to get dark so we decided to start walking home.
"Thanks for this evening!" Maggie said and hugged us all, before she disappeared into her house.

"She's so talented, and so beautiful," Brad said as we walked into my house.

"I think someone has a crush!" Tris said.

"Who doesn't?" Connor said and threw me a smile.

"I don't, she's a friend!" I made my point.
"Oh come on, really?" Tris teased.

"Yeah really, plus I think she has her admirer here!" I said and looked at Brad.
