Nicole's POV

I knew that I was dying. I had not eaten for days and I felt so weak. I was extremely cold and I could not move. I was in immense pain. I felt like I was going any moment soon and no one could stop it because I was trapped and tied up. I figured that my kidnapper must have left me here to die because I've not heard any sounds apart from the leaking pipe.

I closed my eyes and let my body deteriorate. It was no good. I was going to die anyways. There's no point staying awake. It was so much easier and less painful to sleep. To stay awake meant I had to feel all the pain and feel the hunger and thirst drive me crazy.

I let myself fall asleep.

Unknown Police Officer POV

It was morning and my team was going to look far for the missing girl. It was tragic really that she was kidnapped. We've not had a missing person case like this before. This time we have actual evidence so that's make us more determined to find her. We know the van registration plate for a start.

I sat in the police van and started driving far into the distance. I was with two other officers and there was another police van behind us that was helping us. I was in charge so I decided to lead my team to a place that's more far as we've only looked in more closer places.

Hours later, I came across an isolated house. I thought nothing of it until I saw the van and it had the same registration plate as the one where the girl had been taken. I stopped the van and took out my notepad. I flipped to the page where the title had 'Nicole Parkinson' on it. Under it, I had the registration of the van and they matched with the van that was outside the house.

I got out my radio and informed the chief that I had found the van and that it was a huge possibility that the girl was inside. He sent off armed officers my way and my team waited for their arrival.

Minutes later, the armed officers arrived and surrounded the house. I knocked on the front door of the house.

"Police, open up, we have armed officers," I shouted.

There was no reply so I used all my force to open the door and it flew open. I saw a man on the floor surrounded in a puddle of blood. He had been shot.

"We need an ambulance," I said, into the radio,

I walked around the man and the blood and towards a door which was chained up. I pushed the door hard but it wouldn't open. I called one of the armed officers to come and try to open it. They failed. I looked at the man that was lying on the floor and I reached inside one of his pockets. I found a key and ran towards the door. The door lock unlocked with the use of the key and all the chains fell to the floor. I opened the door and went inside the room.

Inside was the girl I had been searching for days. She was tied up to a chair and she was asleep. She didn't look like the picture I was shown of her. She was all bruised up and she looked extremely thin. She was all bones and she looked malnourished. I went towards her.

"Hello Nicole, I'm Paul, can you give me a nod?" I said to her.

There was no reply. I felt the side of her neck to check for a heart beat and I found it. I untied the ropes that were tying her wrists together. They were red and looked extremely sore. I heard the ambulance sirens outside and seconds later, two men came and put Nicole on a stretcher.

"She has a steady heartbeat but she's unconscious," one of the men said.

"We need to get her to the hospital as soon as possible, she's extremely malnourished and she is going to die if she doesn't get there quick enough," the other man said, examining her.

They escorted her to the ambulance and they drove off. I went back to the room where the man was and he was being pulled into an ambulance. The forensics team arrived and they began looking for evidence.

My team left them to it and we headed back to the station. Today was a long day. We've done our jobs once again. We've found the missing girl. And that's good enough. We left the work to the inspector and moved onto the next case.

Yes she was found. Does that mean she's going to be happy? Not necessarily. She still has the same horrible people in her life. She's still going to be unhappy due to the nasty people in her life. It was unfair. It was horrible. Society is nasty. People are nasty. But it can't be stopped. Theoretically, no one could stop it. No one could stop it. The worst bit being that the nicest of girls had the worst of enemies. She was the girl that was slowly dying... and no one could stop it.
