Adam's POV

I was going to tell Nicole everything today. I have prepared myself for losing her because she's going to despise me when she knows. I feel really scared about losing her and I actually don't know what I'd do without her. But she deserves to know the truth. I should've just told her when I first met her. That way it wouldn't hurt as much if she left me back then.

I drove to Nicole's house and picked her up. She looked absolutely gorgeous today. She's changed her style as well. She's wearing blue jeans, a white lace top, pink trainers and a pink jacket. I swear down she looks beautiful in anything and everything.

We arrived to school and when we walked in I noticed that pretty much everyone was staring at us. We continued walking and we went straight to class. I had Geography and Nicole had History. It was just like any other any lesson.

At the end of the day, I took Nicole to her house and she invited me in. There was no one home yet so I decided that I should tell her. She took me to her living room and I sat down and she got some drinks.

"Nicole, I'm going to tell you everything now," I said to her as she sat on the couch besides me.

"Are you sure you're ready?" She asked.

"To be honest, I'll never be ready but you deserve to know the truth," I said.

"When I was 7 years old, I used to play football in those big arenas about a 45 minutes drive away from here. There was this time when my mum had to go on a really important business meeting. I forced her to drive me to the arena and watch me play in the finale which meant she missed her meeting. When we were driving it was dark and raining, it was about 6PM and my mum was driving on the motorway with my dad besides her. I kept on telling her to hurry up because we were getting late so she drove faster and a massive lorry just stopped in front of us and my mum swerved the car to avoid us crashing but it was too late. We crashed into the lorry. Mum died straight away. Dad was in hospital for weeks and if you look at his neck, you can see the scar he got from that day. I only had a broken arm when it should've been me that died," I said.

I never realised tears were falling from my eyes. It hurt so much just to recall it. I looked up and Nicole's eyes were watery. She smiled sympathetically at me and dried my eyes with her sleeves. She hugged me tight. I was taken aback by the this; I expected her to hate me and leave me.

"It's not your fault," she said, looking at me.

"It is because she was supposed to be on a business meeting and I practically forced her to come, if she went on the business meeting she would've been alive today," I said.

"It's not your fault, darling, it's the lorry driver's fault for stopping in the middle of the motorway," Nicole said.

"I know but it's me to blame for her death," I muttered.

"It's not, and if you don't mind me asking, is Claire like your step mum?" I asked.

"Well, after mum died, Dad was really sad and unhappy all the time and the business wasn't doing well because he wasn't really keeping up with everything. Claire had an amazing business that was doing well and she offered Dad to work in partnership with a particular area that both businesses wasn't doing well in. Dad refused the offer but she came to our house the next day and just got the business stable again. I noticed she made Dad happy and I told him that I wouldn't mind if they got together. They got married and I think she deserves the title as mum. I mean she's loved me as much as she could back then and still to this day. She'll never be as good as my actual mother but she's as good as and I love her as well, she's made my dad happy and what more can I ask for really," I said.

"I always thought she never looked like you. You're really brave for going through all this Adam, I love you," she said.

She hugged me tight and I hugged her tightly too. I realised that I was finally happy. I felt like all my problems had gone now that I had Nicole. She is my everything and I don't know what I'd do without her.

"I love you Nicole," I said to her.

She smiled at me and we sat on the sofa with her on my shoulder and my arm around her. We sat there for ages and let all of our problems be forgotten. I knew that all I needed was Nicole and everything else would be alright. Now that I still have her, I can finally look to the future and have a happy life with her which is all I want right now. I smiled at the thought of growing old with Nicole.

He thought that everything was finally looking good. That everything was going well. He was right. It was going well. For now. What he didn't know was that Nicole wasn't going to grow old with him. She wasn't the girl who was going to live happily ever after. Nicole wasn't going to have a happy ending. For she was the girl that was slowly dying...
