Reign's POV
"You never told me about a field trip to the Underworld," sabi ni Paige habang nakasunod sa'kin paakyat ng hagdan.
"I just did," sabi ko. "Planned it before the victory party and the Olympics."
"You just told me."
Huminto ako pagkarating sa tuktok.
Nilingon ko siya. "Yeah." Umiling ako sabay lahad ng kanang kamay ko para diinan ang punto ng unang sinabi ko. "I just did?"
Naglakad ako papuntang kwarto ko para makapagbihis na mula sa uniform ko.
"Why didn't you tell me first?" tanong niya.
"Bigla-bigla kasi." Binagalan ko ang aking mga hakbang. "Bella. She told me that she has sensed Matilda's presence more than one time in the school, watching us."
"So that was her?" ani Paige.
Tumigil ako. "You also noticed her?"
"Maybe," aniya. "I came to fetch Bella in her room for our training and I felt someone was looking at me."
"See?" Nagpatuloy ako sa paglakad. "I thought we needed to go to the Underworld to pay a visit to one of our founders."
Nang makarating na kami sa tapat ng aking pinto, humarap ako sa kanya.
"I wasn't sure kung papayagan ba tayo ng Academy kaya di ko muna sinabi sa'yo," pagbibigay-alam ko sa kanya. "But now that Bella informed me that the trip is happening, I'm telling it to you."
"But what about Ash?" pabulong niyang tanong, nang walang makarinig sa'min. "You know what state he is in, right now."
Sinulyapan ko ang mga kwarto ng boys na nasa kabilang dako ng second floor.
"Hindi naman agad-agad yung field trip." Muli kong ibinalik ang aking atensyon kay Paige. "A few days will calm him down," sabi ko sa kanya. "And if he does, I want you to tell him personally about it."
"That we're going to the Underworld? The very realm his girlfriend is stuck in?" She repeated what I already know. "Why would you-"
Bigla siyang nanahimik.
"I have a feeling that the reason the founders haven't come up with a decision to help Hedone is because they're worried we step in to do it." Napabuntong-hininga ako. "Kilala mo na yung mga magulang natin. Hindi nila tayo bibigyan ng misyon para iligtas siya."
"Why would they?" She whispered, frustrated. "She's in Tartarus, Reign. Tartarus."
"I know," sambit ko.
"Not even our parents have been there," paalala niya sa'kin.
"But one of us is in there, Paige," I also reminded her. "And we're going to get her back."
Napansin ko ang paghigpit ng pagkakahawak niya ng clipboard habang nakatingin sa'kin, hindi mapakali ang hininga at hindi makapaniwala ang mga mata.
"Tartarus?" nag-aalangan niyang tanong. "I will follow you anywhere, Reign, but Tartarus?"
"If we don't, Paige..." My voice faded, because I too, was worried of what will happen. "If we don't go and save Hedone, then one of us will, and I cannot let him go alone."
Her gaze hardened, as she took in a deep breath.
"Tartarus, Reign..." She tried to convince me to take back my decision for one last time. "Tartarus, the lowest point of the universe."
