"Let's get you some breakfast," I said, lifting her up to sit on the counter.
She stayed quiet and watched me make her breakfast. I filled up a cup of water and handed it to her.
"Here bambina, keep taking small sips. Your little tummy will still be sensitive," I told her.
Once her breakfast was made, I lifted her down so she could sit at the table. I placed the bowl in front of her and sat down with my own.
"Don't worry if you can't eat it all bambina, just try as much as you can," I said encouragingly.
I know she wasn't a fan of meal times but after yesterday, she must be starving.
She picked up her spoon and took a small mouthful.
"Good girl," I smiled as I started to eat my own.
She ate about half before pushing it away.
"Well done Elva. How are you feeling?" I asked.
She climbed down and came to sit with me while I finished mine and drank my coffee.
"Tired," she yawned.
"Do you still feel sick?" I asked.
She shook her head and leaned back against me.
I put my hand against her forehead.
"You're still a little warm. I'll give you some more medicine in a minute,"
After I'd finished and washed up all the dishes, I gave Elva another dose of medicine before getting us both dressed into some comfy clothes. It was looking like it would be a movie day.
It was 10am and I'd just got Elva and I settled on the sofa under a blanket. I was about to press play for The Little Mermaid to start when we heard a key in the apartment door.
Elva and I both turned to see Maya walking in.
"Bellina what's wrong?" I said the second I laid eyes on her.
She didn't look well at all.
"They sent me home," she said weakly.
"I'm the captain and they sent me home, can you believe it?" She added.
"Maya did you feel like this earlier?" I asked. I lifted Elva off my lap and got up to go over to her.
"I felt tired but I thought that was from worrying about Elva yesterday and last night. Then I got to work and my head was aching so much it was making me dizzy so Andy made me come home," she explained, leaning against the wall for support.
"Okay go get in bed, I'll bring you some water and tablets," I told her.
She nodded but winced at the movement of her head.
"Mommy," Elva called out nervously.
"Mommy's okay bubba, I'm just gonna go take a nap," Maya said as positively as she could.
"With me?" Elva asked hopefully holding her arms out.
"I don't feel too great at the minute Elvie, maybe in a little while," she said sadly before making her way to our bedroom.
I watched as Elva's face fell but she didn't put up a fight. She turned back around and curled into the side of the sofa.
I quickly grabbed Maya some water and pain relief for her headache.
I found her stripping down to her underwear and climbing into bed.
"Her you go Bellina," I said softly, placing everything down beside the bed.
"Thank you," she smiled weakly.
"I never get sick," she said frustratedly.
"Children's germs are powerful things," I joked.
"They weren't joking when they said parents make sacrifices were they?," she smiled.
"She's worth it," I added.
"She definitely is," she replied, settling further into the bed.
"I don't want you to worry or stress but Jane rang me earlier," I told her.
She sat back up quickly and winced.
"She's coming tomorrow at 5:30," I informed her.
"God let's hope I'm better," she sighed.
"You will be, I'll make sure of it," I said, leaning down to kiss her.
"Try to sleep it off and give me a shout if you need anything," I said before heading back to Elva.
She nodded and pulled the covers up under her chin.
I found Elva exactly how I'd left her. I scooped her back up and once again covered us both under the blanket.
She had a cute little frown across her face.
"What's wrong bella?" I asked.
She moved and tried to hide her face in my chest.
"Ahh ahh no speak to mama," I said firmly.
"I make mommy sick," she said.
Her bottom lip began to wobble and I watched as her eyes filled with tears.
"No bambina, it's not your fault," I said reassuringly.
"Mommy not well because of me," she cried.
"Oh bella she's alright, she just has the bug that you've got, you feel much better now don't you? I'm sure mommy will feel better soon too," I tried to explain.
I wiped her tears and held her head back down against my chest as I played with her hair.
"She's okay bambina, she's alright," I repeated.
"I help," she said through tears.
"We'll let mommy sleep then you can help mama look after her if you want," I suggested.
She nodded against my boobs.
"We still need to make sure you're 100% better too little one," I reminded her.
She let out a few final sobs before calming down.
I finally started the film for her. She watched it intently for about 20 minutes before her eyes began to close.
Once she was asleep, I carefully lifted her off me and started to tidy and clean the apartment ready for Jane's visit. I knew Maya would be stressed about this so decided to try and get most of it done while they were both asleep.
I grabbed the cleaning things and headed into the bathroom.
It took me at least 30 minutes to clean it properly and when I came back through to the lounge, I saw that Elva wasn't where I'd left her.
I checked her room before heading into mine and Maya's.
There she was, curled up beside Maya. Maya had rolled onto her side and had her arm draped over Elva who was fast asleep tucked into Maya's body. I snapped a little photo of them both looking incredibly cute and peaceful.
At least this would give me chance to clean and tidy the lounge without waking Elva up.
I just hoped they were both fully better before Jane arrived tomorrow.
