"Y/n wait!"
You heard his voice yell as he chased after you, walking across the damp campus. Rain had just finished falling, and the sky was still that misty shade of grey that made everyone sad. You weren't sad though, you were tired and ready to get back to the comfort of your dorm.
Despite that, your rabbit agility was easily matched by his tiger side, and he caught up to you, stopping you with one hand wrapped around your wrist.
"Please, I just wanna talk"
You rolled your eyes and turned around, letting your annoyance show on your face.
"Oh now you wanna talk to me?"
You snapped. He looked down, knowing he was in the wrong here.
"I'm sorry"
He spoke.
"I feel so bad for what I did to you"
"Of course you do, it's different when you're on the receiving end"
That made his head snap up.
"I-It's not like that"
"Sure it is! You're only apologizing to me now because you have no one to spend your heat with! When I needed you, you couldn't have cared less!"
He was silent.
"That's too bad for you, I won't be anyone's second choice"
You gritted, turning on your heel and walking away triumphantly. You wished he would understand just an ounce of the pain and hurt he put you through, that left you reeling for months trying to pick up the pieces of your heart.
Renjun was the first boy you had ever fallen in love with, but loving him went against everything you'd learned back home in your small, primarily prey town. Rabbits should be with other rabbits, no mixing at all. You didn't want to think like that. That's why you chose to go to a college with diversity.
It was in one of your science classes that you met Renjun. A smart, handsome, no nonsense tiger hybrid who turned out to be your lab partner for the semester. For being so different, the two of you got along great. You even met his friends, and they were just as nice. Your feelings for him started to grow, especially since your first heat after fully becoming close with him was approaching.
On that day, you worked up the courage to go to him and confess. That day brought back the worst memories of your life. It was awful. He had some other big cat friends at his apartment when you arrived, but he pulled you into the kitchen to talk privately.
You poured your heart out to him, telling him that you really liked him and you were hoping to be more then friends. And then he looked at you, and laughed.
"This is a joke, right? Never in a million years would I date someone like you"
Your face fell.
"I'm a predator, Y/n. I need someone strong and fierce by my side, not a meek little bunny who jumps at the sight of her own shadow"
You felt hot tears stinging the back of your eyes. Renjun looked down at you and growled, causing your primal instincts to shriek and jump. He laughed as the tears began to fall freely from your eyes.
"See what I mean, there's no way it could ever work between us, you're just too different"
With your heart in pieces, you ran out of his dorm. Such strong emotions clouded your judgement about a rabbit in heat walking alone at night. You were crying on your way home, too distracted to realize your scent had attracted some attention. Just as you were turning down a narrower stretch of road, you felt rough hands grab you by the shoulders and pull you backwards, back slamming into the brick wall of a building.
Looking up through your glossy eyes, you could see three guys you weren't familiar with, all staring down at you like you were a piece of meat. Just a whiff of their scent, and you could smell everything you needed to know about them. Alphas.
"Well well, look what we have here"
The one holding you against the wall smirked.
"Look at her crying. What's wrong sweetheart, don't have anyone to take care of you?"
"Let me go!"
You begged, trying to wriggle free of his deathly grip.
"Not a chance. You know what time of year it is, don't you?"
You did. Mating season. A bad time for heat stricken rabbits like yourself to be alone.
"Then you realize you practically got yourself into this situation, walking alone outside looking for an alpha to find you"
He smirked down at you and you shuddered shaking your head no. All he did was growl and lean into your cowering frame, pressing his nose against your neck and inhaling. He hummed in satisfaction.
"You smell so fertile, makes me wanna fuck you full of my pups"
He growled. You were terrified. You couldn't escape this, you didn't have the physical or emotional strength. That was when a low, guttural growl stopped the three in their tracks.
"Get the fuck off her!"
You couldn't see who it was, but the persons aura alone sent the three losers running. Before you could even contemplate it, your weakening frame was being swept into someone's arms.
"Oh my god, Y/n!"
Your eyes were just barely open, but you knew that voice. Jaemin. One of Renjuns friends.
"What the hell are you doing out here? Are you crazy?!?"
"Renjun"
Was all you could mutter before passing out from exhaustion.
That night when you woke up sick in Jaemins dorm, you had told him what happened. Before you were even awake he called his friend without knowing the full story. All he knew, was that Renjun had something to do with you almost becoming a case. Renjun half admitted what happened, thinking Jaemin would understand, but he was wrong. Jaemin wasn't like him. Wolves were very respectful and level headed. For that reason, he never flexed his power in the way the bigger cats on campus liked to do. Jaemin was older than those wolves in the alley, that was why they had no choice but to listen to him.
With such a level head, that was one of the few areas where he and Renjun clashed. Jaemin knew exactly what Renjun said to you, that night affecting him just as much as it had you. From then on, the two of your stuck together, deciding you would take it upon yourselves to care for each other.

"What's on your mind today, bun?"
Jaemin asked. You were sweaty, lying in bed in a heap after he'd so patiently exhausted himself to take care of your heat. You knew he liked to talk after, see how you were doing, but as you were laid up in bed on his bare chest playing with his chain, he could tell your head was somewhere else.
You sighed and shook your head.
"Oh come on, after the fucking I just gave you I think I deserve to know why I don't have all your attention right now"
You felt a smile break out at his terminology. Jaemin was like that, always saying things he knew would make you laugh.
"Renjun is trying to apologize to me"
Jaemins smile dropped, the immediate mention of that name sending waves of anger through him as he held you tighter.
"Please don't tell me you're considering anything that asshole has to say"
You shook your head. You could still feel the angry pheromones leaving him.
"H-he doesn't deserve you! Not after what he put you through!"
"Jaemin"
You spoke, trying to snap him out of it. His eyes started to flash between their natural color and the bright yellow of his wolf. A low growl left him and in an instant you were flipped under his muscular frame, arms raising to wrap around his neck.
"He's lucky I don't rip him to shreds the next time I see him!"
He growled again, baring his canines.
"Jaemin!"
You snapped, rubbing your hand along the back of his neck. Immediately his eyes flashed back to normal.
"It's okay baby, relax"
You spoke, moving to massage his shoulders. He exhaled.
"I-I'm sorry, I just get so angry think about that night"
He spoke, nuzzling your nose against his.
"I'm not going anywhere"
You reassured him.
"Good, I don't want my little bunny leaving me for anyone else"

"Y/n"
You heard softly in your ear.
"Bunny, wake up"
You opened one eye, seeing that as the morning light steamed into his room, you and Jaemin slept comfortably with you still lying on his chest.
"I'm sorry princess, I have to go"
You blinked up at him poutily.
"Don't look at me like that, even if I wanted to stay, I can't"
You nodded, letting him slide out from under you as you cuddled back into his sheets.
"You'll be okay by yourself?"
He asked, bending by your side to run his fingers across your cheek softly. You nodded.
"Where are you going anyway?"
"Science hall. Pack business, y'know?"
You nodded, sighing inwardly. Every time Jaemin went off for that kind of stuff, all you could think about was him with other female wolves. The type of girls he was "supposed" to be with. It always reminded you that no matter how good what you had was going, Jaemin would never be your mate.
"Don't look so down, if you come meet me when it's over we can go out"
He offered, noticing how you lit up immediately at his suggestion. He planted a soft kiss on your forehead before heading off to get ready, you cuddling back into the blankets to sleep for a while longer.

It was 1:30 now and you had just gotten out of your last class of the day. With only 30 minutes until his meeting was ending, you decided to walk to the science hall early and wait for him. You yawned, rounding the corner to the main hallway only to stop in your tracks. Leaning against the walls of the hallway were Renjun and his friends. He noticed you the second you walked in, but you avoided looking, deciding you would find another way to the classroom Jaemin was in.
You had barely rounded the opposite corner when you heard him coming after you.
"Y/n!"
He yelled. You sighed and turned around.
"I'm really not in the mood to fight with you today, Renjun"
"Who said I wanted to fight? I just wanna talk"
He spoke.
"What could you possibly want to talk about?"
"Us"
"There is no us, you lost your chance and I don't need you anymore"
Renjuns eyes flashed in anger. One thing you knew about cat hybrids like himself, was that they tended to get angry when things didn't go their way. Especially when someone was telling them something they didn't want to hear.
"Oh really? You think screwing around with Jaemin is gonna work out for you?"
Your eyes met his in annoyance as he stepped up, trapping your body in between him and the wall.
"Face it. Jaemins a wolf, he's a predator. You'll never be able to satisfy him the way someone of his own kind could"
Your eyes widened. How did he know you were insecure about that.
"You know what he's doing with his pack right now? Looking for his mate. Once he finds her he'll leave you like week old roadkill. No ones gonna want you after you've been an alphas slut"
You couldn't help the pang in your chest that his words caused, feeling tears start to well in your eyes. Renjun looked down at you and laughed.
"Pathetic. What are you gonna do for him? You're nothing but a dumb bunny"
A low growl reverberated through the hallway, that made everyone shrink in on themselves.
"What did you just say to her?"
Renjun looked to the left, finally noticing the seething wolf entering the hallway.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
Jaemin yelled.
"Since when did you go around bullying people when you don't get your way. She doesn't want you dude, move on already"
"Oh, and you do? I'm just being real. At least I'm not playing her, stringing her along as if she actually has a chance with me"
Jaemin lurched forward, dragging the older away from you and slamming him against the opposite wall.
"Take it back!"
"It's the truth isn't it? You know she likes you and you use that to your advantage. You don't love her! You never did!"
Jaemin growled, pressing the older further up the wall. Renjun gritted his teeth from the his back hitting the wall.
"That's not fucking true! You know I love her! You knew before you even met her!"
A choked sob left your lips at the stress of the whole thing, and before you could stop yourself, you were taking off down the hall, hearing both boys calling behind you.

You sniffled, cursing your rabbit instincts for naturally running away from conflict. This was exactly what Renjun was talking about. You snuggled up into one of the sweatshirts Jaemin left at your dorm while in bed reflecting.
Even though you hadn't heard him ring the doorbell yet, you could smell Jaemin walking down your hallway. You were embarrassed at how quickly you sprinted to the door, throwing it open before his hand could even reach up to knock.
"Hi"
He spoke, the word puffing out as if he was trying to take a deep breath at first.
"Hi"
You answer back quietly. You stepped aside, letting him walk in behind you and close the door. You could feel the tension between you then, but you chose to ignore it and pretend you were busy by walking to the kitchen. Jaemin was following right behind you, and the moment you were close enough to a counter he was turning you around and pinning you against it.
"Look, Y/n, I really don't know what else Renjun said to you, but it's not true"
You shook your head.
"N-no it's okay, don't lie. I should find someone more like me"
You spoke, looking down at the carrot socks on your feet.
"Don't say that, bunny"
Jaemin tried to reassure you, lifting your head and running his fingers along your cheek.
"He was right though"
You sighed, moving his hand.
"I was dumb to think that I could ever end up with someone like you"
Jaemin looked heartbroken.
"Please, tell me what he said to you so I can make it better"
You shook your head again.
"I think it would be better if we spent some time apart"
Jaemin was shocked. He didn't know what to say. His mouth opened and closed as if he was expecting the words to come to him, but they never did. He exhaled deeply.
"I understand"
He finally broke the thick silence between you, turning on his heel and walking defeatedly to the door. You couldn't stand to watch him walk away, so you just turned around until you heard the door slam.
You sighed, leaning your head against the wall as you felt the tears slowly leaving your eyes.

"Y/n hurry up!"
Your friend Yuna yelled at you even though you were only a few feet away from her. Sometimes you didn't know how you survived such a loud and obnoxious friend. Although she was a rabbit like yourself, she had the personality of a lioness.
You sped up so that you were walking next to her, as the two of you headed to your morning classes. Going to the science building always made you anxious, because now you were afraid you would see Jaemin.
You couldn't deny that you missed him, it was obvious. However, your own doubts after everything that happened had really pushed you away. You'd even found someone of interest more like yourself.
You'd never noticed him in your economics class before, but his name was Han Jisung and he was a squirrel. He was really handsome too, and you had quickly come to like each other. Right now you were just in the talking stage, but that was fine with you because if anything were to happen between you, you wanted to take it slow.
"Hey"
You heard a voice next to you as you and Yuna walked into the building.
"Oh, hi Jisung"
You smiled, letting your hand casually slip into his as he walked on the other side of you. As the three of you rounded the corner, absentmindedly talking about the homework, you felt a sharp chill run down your spine. You would have been able to brush it off if it wasn't for the low growl you heard reverberating through the air.
It froze the three of you in place, instincts telling you to run immediately, but the eyes glaring into the back of your head told you something different.
Jaemin
You wanted to turn around, but you knew nothing would come of it. Before you could even consider it, Jisung pulled you closer towards him as the three of you continued on your path. He glared over his shoulder and mumbled to Yuna about stupid wolf boys trying to prey on others.
You sighed inwardly. Jaemin wasn't like that, you knew it. You wanted to defend him, but what was the point?
His sharp gaze never left you, and you knew he was staring at the way Jisung was holding you. The three of you rounded the corner quickly, and you tried to forget the feeling no matter how much you missed having Jaemins attention.

"Y'know, asserting your dominance isn't going to make her come back to you?"
Jeno spoke from next to Jaemin, watching his friend glower at the area where you just were. He and his pack mates were hanging out in the lounge at the end of the hallway, which was how he saw you.
"Well it made me feel better, okay"
Ryujin scoffed.
"You really know nothing about women, idiot"
Jaemin rolled his eyes.
"I don't have to take this from any of you"
"Yes you do! Considering you've been cranky and making everyone miserable for weeks you need to find a way to fix things with her so we don't have to deal with your attitude anymore!"
Something about this made the alpha snap. Jaemin growled, standing so quickly that the chair he was sitting on flipped over. His eyes flashed yellow and he seethed in anger. Everyone watched in shock as within seconds he was in front of Ryujin, using his grip on her throat to pin her to the wall.
"Do you realize who you're talking to? Since when was it okay to disrespect the alpha of your pack!"
"I-I'm sorry alpha, we're just worried about you"
"Give me one reason why I shouldn't put your head through this damn wall"
"J-Jaemin please you're c-choking me"
She slapped at his arm to let go, but he didn't.
"Jaemin, dude you gotta calm down"
Jeno tried to reason with him to no avail.
"Don't tell me what to do!"
Suddenly, a gasp erupted through the hallway. Jaemins head turned sharply to the direction of the sound, only to have his heart shatter when he saw you staring at him with nothing but fear in your eyes. He immediately let go of his pack mate, poor Ryujin gasping as she slid to the bottom of the wall.
"Y/n"
He tried to take a step towards you, and you shook your head rapidly, backing away from him as a shiver ran down your spine.
"N-no, wait please I'm sorry!"
He wanted to run to catch up with you, but the second you saw him move you ran away at full speed. Even as a wolf he was no match for the light feet of a rabbit. He knew your prey instincts were absolutely terrified right now, if he had gotten any closer he might have given you a heart attack.
Jaemin turned around, looking in shame at the mess he'd created. A few pack members were on the ground helping Ryujin, while some others cleaned up the furniture. Jaemin started tugging at his hair anxiously as he felt tears well up behind his eyes. What was he supposed to do? His alpha training didn't prepare him for this and now he was going to have a panic attack in front of everyone.
He paced back and forth, panting heavily as he tugged at his hair harder. Jeno, his best friend, was the first to notice.
"Jaem...Jaemin"
He walked to his friend cautiously. Jaemin whipped around, tears silently spilling from his eyes. Jeno was quick to open his arms for the younger, comforting him as Jaemin cried on his shoulder.
"It's okay bud, we understand"
Jeno pat his back gently, trying to help his friend calm down. He was hyperventilating too much to speak clearly, but from what Jeno could understand, the only thing he was concerned about, was you.

Your roommates, prey as well, reacted when you came home and told them about what had happened.
"I just really thought he was different"
You shrugged, drumming your fingers on the kitchen table.
"And to think I was on my way to talk to him"

If you weren't avoiding Jaemin before, you were acting like he had the plague now. Jaemin knew you were going out of your way not to see him because of how often you would normally run into each other without meaning to. It physically hurt him to know you didn't want to be around him so badly, but he also couldn't forgive himself for what you'd seen him do, no matter how many times his packmates told him they understood.
"You don't have to keep buying me flowers, Jaemin. I'm fine"
Ryujin told him, as he placed yet another fresh bouquet on the pack house table in front of her. The bruise on her neck told him otherwise.
"I could have killed you"
"But you didn't, and we're all proud of you for controlling yourself"
"Yeah"
Jeno chimed in from across the room.
"If anyone gets how hard it is to suppress your alpha sometimes, it's us"
Jaemin sighed frustratedly.
"Yeah, except that's not true. I only stopped because I saw Y/n. Who knows what would have happened if she wasn't there"
Ryujin sighed.
"I still maintain that you know nothing about women"
Jaemin scoffed and Jeno quickly walked over to diffuse the situation.
"Look, what she's trying to say is that there are clear signs in front of you that you need to make up with Y/n"
"Clear signs? She's terrified of me!"
Ryujin shook her head in disagreement.
"Even while you were squeezing the life out of me I could see how conflicted she was before she decided to run from you. If she was really afraid, she would have ran before you even saw her, but she didn't. She stayed"
"Yeah, and she didn't run from you in the hallway before that"
Jeno added.
"Safety in numbers"
He retorted with. Ryujin, sick of him having an answer for everything, stood up and got in his face.
"Listen pea brain, only someone with a deep emotional connection could pull you out of an alpha headspace like that, and she didn't even say anything. It was just her presence. Now stop wasting time bickering with us and go find her before I drag you there myself"
For once, Jaemin was speechless. He contemplated what he was being told, deciding that he had nothing left to lose if he tried. So, he took his flowers back and marched out the door, hearing his two best friends bickering behind him.
"Hey! Just because I said I didn't want them doesn't mean you can take them back!"
"Would you sit down!"
"Don't yell at me Lee Jeno, I do what I want!"
"Are you crazy! Do you want him to try to kill you again!"
"Jaemin is harmless"
"You literally almost died!"
"I'm still here aren't I!"
They put a smile on his face as he walked away to do the one thing he should have done sooner, find you.

On the prey side of campus, you and a bunch of the other rabbits were on the grass having a picnic. It was your day off from class, and you enjoyed nothing more than relaxing in the sun. As you raised another carrot to your mouth to take a bite, you noticed a hush fall over the group.
Immediately you turned to where they were looking, seeing Jaemin approach with flowers in hand. He was far enough away not to scare anyone yet, but news of what happened had spread around the prey community and they didn't take kindly to his presence.
"What is HE doing here"
One of your roommates glowered. You shrugged.
"I don't know, I'll talk to him I'm sure that's all he wants"
"How do you know he's not here to kill one of us"
Your friend who lived next door spoke up.
"Jaemins not like that"
You told her, as everyone else started backing away.
"I hope"
You mumbled quietly. As he got closer, you stood. Everyone else had either run away, or hidden to watch the scene unfold. By the time he was close enough to talk to you, everyone had already fled.
"What is it, Jaemin?"
He sighed.
"Look, I know I'm probably the last person you want to see right now, but you have to understand that what you saw in the hall that day wasn't me"
You scoffed.
"I don't HAVE to do anything. Notice how I'm the only one still here, and that's only because I know you"
"Exactly, you know me. You know that's not what I'm like. I promise you, Y/n I wouldn't do something like that on purpose. My alphas just been out of control lately, and it got out of hand. It's tough to control right now because he's missing something"
"What?"
"You"
You couldn't deny he caught you off guard with that comment, but as soon as you regained composure, you shook your head in denial.
"No, Renjun said-"
"Fuck Renjun, he doesn't know me and he doesn't know what we have going on"
"And what is that exactly? He may be a jerk but he was right! I'm playing myself going through this with you, Jaemin. We're not gonna end up together"
Jaemins brow furrowed as he stepped closer to you.
"Who decides that?"
"What?"
"I didn't know you were in charge of deciding who I end up with? What, do you not believe this is me legitimately confessing my feelings to you?"
You scoffed.
"Honestly, no"
Jaemin opened his mouth to say something, but you didn't give him the chance.
"How could you have feelings for me when it's not possible for us to be taken seriously together? You're a pack alpha, you need someone strong to lead by your side. It won't be me, it can't be"
"That's where you're wrong"
He said, laying his flowers to the side so that he could pull you closer with both hands on your waist.
"It can be you and it will be. I don't have to have a wolf as my mate and you know that.
"Then what were you doing all those times you left for pack business?"
"Training. I couldn't be a pack alpha without the mandatory training sessions, I just never bothered to tell you because I didn't think you'd care about a bunch of brooding alphas learning how to brood"
A look of relief washed over your face and you laughed a little. Jaemin smiled down at you.
"What did you think I was doing, hunting for a mate?"
He began to laugh at his joke, but when he saw your face get serious he realized he wasn't wrong.
"Wait, actually?"
You looked down in embarrassment.
"Y/n, I'm not playing you and I never have been. I wouldn't do that to you, use you like that. I would never"
You looked up at Jaemin, his eyes pleading for you to believe him.
"I want this to work, Jaem, I really do"
"But?"
"I just don't see how it can"
"Since when did you start listening to what other people think, huh? Everyone is getting in your head now, and you're doubting yourself, doubting me"
"I have a right to doubt you, Jaemin"
With the look you gave him, he knew exactly what you were referring to and nodded.
"That's fair, I get that, and I'll do everything in my power to earn your trust back if you give me a chance. Please"
You thought about how you had really been doing without him, knowing that deep down you missed Jaemin way too much to say no, so you said:
"Okay"
The widest, sweetest, most heartwarming smile overtook Jaemins face as he grabbed you into a hug. You couldn't help but feel right in his arms, accepting the hug happily and burying your face in his neck.
"Thank you, I won't mess it up I promise"
At this point I have nothing to lose so I'm just posting everything I got 😭
