Hudson's POV
Last night was the worst.
Lexi says she's alright which is great, but I never thought my friends would do this.
I stand up and I know one is coming.
I have a seizure disorder. No one except Jhorry and Coach knows because its embarrassing.
"You coming to breakfast?" Jhorry asks
"I think I'm going to have a seizure," I sigh "so I'll will skip,"
"Need someone around?" he asks
"No, I'll be alright. Wanna bring me up some food?"
"For sure bro.. what about your girl?"
"Just tell her... I'm sleeping,"
"Alright, catch you later,"
He leaves and I lay on the ground of my bedroom.
Lexi will not stop calling me.
I finally pick up and sigh.
"Hey Lex,"
"Baby, are you avoiding me?" I ask
"No, of course not," I sigh "just really tired Lex,"
"What if I come up and bring you food? We can just chill?"
"Not right now babes, I'm so sorry," I say "we'll hangout later,"
"I have to be at the fields for 1," she says disappointed "I thought you said we could hangout before that,"
"Lex I gotta go," I say quickly "I love you,"
I hang up and start seizing.
...
I "wake up" from the seizure just as Jhorry comes back
"Dude, you okay in there?"
"Ya, for sure, you can come in,"
He comes in and I sit against my bed still on the floor.
"Hey, I know it's not my business- but Topaz was pretty upset you wouldn't go see her,"
"I know, she called me," I sigh "I hung up pretty fast,"
"She really likes you, she'll understand,"
"I know, I just don't want to change anything,"
"I don't think it will man, call her,"
I nod and shrug.
"I will,"
He leaves and I pick my phone up.
"H-hey Lex,"
"Hey Huds,"
"Are you in your room?"
"Y-yeah, I'm just getting ready,"
"May I come down?"
"Yes," she says sniffling
She's been crying
Shit.
I go downstairs and knock on her door.
Emma answers and shakes her head.
"You screwed up,"
"Just let me talk to her, I had.. a thing,"
"She's scared,"
"I know,"
She lets me in and I knock on Lexi's bedroom door.
"Come in," she says
"Hey baby," I say sitting next to her
"Why did you not come down,"
"Lex, I haven't been entirely honest with you,"
Her breath is hitched and she looks at me.
"I don't talk about this with anyone, but I have..." I stutter "I have a seizure condition, have since I was a kid,"
"W-what?"
"I can tell when they are about to start, so this morning when I woke up- I guess the stress of last night triggered one so I felt one coming on and couldn't go downstairs,"
"You could've told me," she says concerned
"It's embarrassing, and I didn't want you worried or embarrassed of me," i say looking at my hands
She turns my head with her hand and looks at me.
"Is this something that Brianna teased you about?"
I nod and shrug
"A little,"
she hugs me and sighs
"I'm so sorry," she says "for being mad,"
"It's okay, you didn't know,"
"Babe just tell me next time okay? I won't push I promise,"
She kisses me and smiles
"I love you Hudson,"
"I love you too," I say kissing her forehead
"I need to finish getting dressed, and then.. will you walk me to the bus?"
"Yes, of course I will,"
She puts sweatpants over her shorts and a jacket on.
"Baby do you see my shoes anywhere?"
"Right there Lexi, beside the door,"
"You're a lifesaver,"
"Your livesaver will be dead if your mom thinks I made you late for the bus, c'mon,"
She laughs and I grab her bag and we head downstairs.
"Have a good game babes," I say kissing her cheek
"Are you coming?"
"We have practice, but I'll be there before halftime,"
"Good, and i'll see you after?"
"Yes,"
She kisses me and I smirk
She gets on the bus and I shake my head.
She's perfect.
Lexi's POV
"Alexis, you are still with basketball guy?"
"I am still with Hudson, yes?"
"Didn't he stand you up this morning,"
"He had a good reason," I say "Drop it Trey,"
"Fine," he says
"TJ told us someone attacked you two last night.
I sigh and take off my jacket to show the cuts on my arms and lift up the back of my shirt to show the deeper ones on my back.
"Holy shit Lexi,"
"I'm okay,"
"How's the baller?"
"I would rather call him by his name, but he's okay,"
"Is that why he didn't eat this morning?" LJ asks
"One of the reasons,"
We get to the fields and start warming up.
"Alexis?" Reggie yells
"Yes Coach Mantle?"
"Go see your mother, she found something that will make sure your back wont rub against your equipment,"
"Okay,"
I go over and see Cheryl.
"Hey baby,"
"Hey Mom," I say taking my shirt off and sitting in front of her
"I heard you were pretty upset this morning, Hudson didn't show up at breakfast?"
"No, but he explained it to me, we're okay,"
"Wanna explain it to me?" she asks putting freezing in my back
"Keep a secret?"
"Of course,"
"He has a seizure disorder and he had one this morning," I sigh "I guess he knows when they're coming,"
"Is he okay?"
"More than, just didn't wanna come down,"
"Is it hurting?" she asks touching my back
"Nope," I sigh "I'm okay,"
She puts thick bandages on and i go to get my shoulder pads on.
"Topaz," someone says "heard about your back,"
"How, that hasn't been published asshole, I know you were apart of it anyways,"
"How?"
"Your tattoo,"
"I thought you wouldn't be able to play?"
"You forgot my family legacy," I say "we play through everything,"
"Alexis!" TJ yells
"I better get going,"
"I know where the cuts were made," he says "weaknesses,"
"Whatever,"
I push past him and smile at TJ
"Is he.." TJ asks
"He is, don't worry, lets go play,"
We get changed and the opening ceremonies begin.
"Starting quarterback for Riverdale.. Number 54 Alexis Topaz,"
I run out and people start cheering.
"Starting running back for riverdale. Number 22, Tony Reginald Topaz,"
they say
"Starting wide reciever, number 23 Antonio Topaz,"
"Starting cornerback, number 24 Louis Jacob Morgan,"
They announce everyone and then our receiving team goes and returns the kickoff.
I run the first play and get a touchdown.
We pass Hawaii's cheerleaders on the way back from the endzone.
"Hey Brianna, understand yet?" I ask
"How's your back?"
"Oh don't you worry, Hudson made me feel so much better," I wink
She goes to shove me and I laugh
"Too slow,"
I run back to where my mom and Reggie are.
"Lexi don't pick fights with cheerleaders," Toni says
"It's so much fun mom,"
"Alexis,"
"Cheryl said i could,"
She shakes her head and we go back to the game.
By halftime we're up by 5 touchdowns and we start going down the tunnel.
"Lexi you're doing an interview," Reggie says
I nod and go to the press area.
"Half way through and how are you feeling?"
"Going to keep our heads down, but I'd say its going good," I say
"What's the biggest difference between you and team Hawaii,"
"Well, I think I have to say coaching since they can all ground me," I joke "but I think we're playing with focus and they're playing for revenge,"
"Angry over?"
"My boyfriend left their school, for a better one," I smirk "That's sports, but they need to get over it,"
"Is that why there's tension between you and a cheerleader on the team?"
"Well, everyone knows that a Topaz doesn't come to a national tournament to make friends,"
I take a few more questions and then start walking back to the tunnel.
"Lexi,"
I look up and Hudson is in his varsity jacket.
"Hey baby," I say "how was practice?"
"Good," he laughs "I see after every touchdown you need to say something to Brianna,"
"Oh come on, you love it," I tease
"Your mom doesn't,"
"My mother will be fine," I laugh "i need to get back,"
"I'll find you later,"
"I love you,"
"I love you too,"
I start walking down the hall and AJ's smirking at me.
"You and the basketball god have said the L word," he teases
"Shut up,"
"I'm telling Coach,"
He goes into the change room and I sigh.
"I heard it Coach,"
"Focus AJ," she says "Lexi.. is that true?"
"Ya, yesterday before dinner," I say "Its not a big deal mama,"
"I know Lex, keep focused,"
"Topaz, have you seen your daughters interview? It's hilarious," RJ says
She watches it and looks at me.
"Where'd that sass come from?" She asks
"Cheryl of course," I laugh
We go back out and win the game!
"Topaz!" Brianna calls just as the game finished
"Yes?"
"You're not as good as your mom,"
"Not even close," I agree "I still put a pretty good beating down on your team,"
"You barely scored in the second half,"
"It's called class, try it some time,"
Hudson picks me up and spins me around
"Lets go celebrate with your team baby,"
"Okay,"
We go over to Riverdales celebration and TJ, LJ, and AJ hug me.
"Great game Lexi,"
"You guys too," I laugh
AJ pats my back and I wince.
"Freezing wearing off?"
"Ya I need to go find my mom, Huds- come with?"
"Sure baby,"
I find Cheryl and ask her to look at my back.
"Sure Lex,"
I sit down and take my equipment off.
"Oh Lex, they opened back up?"
"Is it okay?" I ask
