Chapter forty two
"Purple pianos."
It was now Junior year, and all summer Caroline had been able to keep her relationship with Sam all summer a secret from everyone and it honestly made the two of them feel like Sandy and Danny from grease and it seemed their relationships ending had the same as there's because before she knew it, Sam's family was moving away because his dad got a new job out of state, but the two did end on good terms, so him being gone only left her missing her best friend who now was so far away, that their texts to each other normally ended with I miss you apposed to a good joke or a I'll see you tomorrow.
Walking down the school steps, she turned to go down the next level but instead got a camera shoved in her face "ugh, not again!" she voiced, seeing Jacob Ben Israel was back with his glee club terror as she began to try and run away from him but he followed her down the steps trying to go at the same pace she was "twitter says you're officially dating your best friend Sam Evans aka Trouty Mouth, aka Hobo McBieber." he told her, making Caroline scoff, as she stopped walking and turned to him "god! Look, Sam moved away so you all can stop calling him Hobo McBieber and especially Trouty Mouth before one of you online messengers get's a real life punch in the face from me, okay?" she asked, and when she did, Jacob quickly began backing away bumping into his camera man as he did so, the two then quickly ran away down the hallway.
In glee club, Mr Schuester was putting all of their trophies in the middle of the room as Caroline looked at her best original song one that was right next to their winning regionals trophy "Mr Schue, why are all are trophies in the middle of the room?" Tina asked "I was sure that our nationals trophy would grow during the summer." Britney shared "I want this image burned into your mind. This is the difference between what first." Mr Schuester told them as he then picked up their twelfth place trophy "and twelfth place looks like. It's also what it feels like." he added on "are you planning on bumming us out all year long?" Puck asked him as they all sat down.
"No. I'm planning on pushing you harder then you've ever been pushed. We made it to nationals last year. This year, I'm not gonna let anything or anyone to stop us from winning at all. I let you down last year, I lost focus let some broadway pipe dream get in the way." Mr Schuester told them "and we're really sorry that the guy who replaced you in April Rhodes musical won the Tony. I mean, I can only imagine you're regret." Rachel told him "you know what I regret? Being the laughing stock of the show choir world." Mercedes shared as Mr Schuester began putting the trophies back up "and that's saying something." Artie mentioned "Mercedes has a point. Finn and Rachels, the kiss that missed, already has twenty thousand views on YouTube, and the comment section is just full of pithy banter like, why is that T Rex eating the jew?" Kurt shared, making Caroline laugh.
"How many times do we have to apologize for that?" Finn asked "yeah, no more apologizing." Rachel told them as her and Finn looked into each other eyes lovingly, Caroline grimaced having been around that all summer if she wasn't with Sam "the school hates us even more now." Mike shared "which is why we have to work even harder this year to recruit new members. We're three men down." Mr Schuester shared "yeah, we because Puckerman couldn't convince Zizes to stay." Santana shared "she's the one that got away..really, really, slowly." Puck shared "where's Quinn?" Tina asked "MiA. No one's heard from her. It's sad, I miss her." Artie mentioned "yeah, Mr Schue face it, nobody's gonna wanna be apart of it." Caroline told him.
"They will. All they need is a little inspiration. And I happen to have some, courtesy of Al Motta of Motta's pianos. Bring em in, guys!" Mr Schuester said as these guys began wheeling in purple pianos "you guys are gonna love this." Mr Schuester added on "whoa, whoa, whoa! Okay, if there are purple pianos involved in this I am on board." Kurt shared "these pianos are repressed from foreclosed homes. There cast off's just like all of us. Used, in need of repairs.." Mr Schuester shared as the people who brought them in left "but there still capable of making beautiful music." Tina told them "right. So, Mr Motta, as a lover of the arts agreed to donate them to glee. I fixed them up, painted them purple, and the purple piano project was born." Mr Schuester shared.
As Britney got up and pulled Tina with her to the pianos along with Kurt running over to one "now, I'm gonna be placing these grapy uprights, randomly throughout the school, and whenever you see one. No matter what you're doing. I want you to sing a song. Now, use this assignment to attract kids who are just like you..kids, who can't keep the music inside. Those are the kinds of addition we need to win it all this year." Mr Schuester shared as he sighed "and for many of you, this is your last year. Let's make it special." he told them, as the bell rang.
The next day in school, they all were hiding out in the school cafeteria even though there was a purple piano in there, as Rachel came up to the table "why are you guys ignoring Mr Schuester's assignment?" she asked "wait, there's a purple piano in here?" Finn asked, as he was chewing a chip as Caroline chuckled while eating her spaghetti "wow. How did any of us miss that?" Mercedes, sarcastically asked "okay. We have to do the number. Okay?" Rachel asked them "we don't have to do anything." Caroline told her "she's right. We have to survive lunch. It's not fair that Mr Schue put the piano in here. It's too much pressure." Artie shared "I agree. That is like wearing a red dress to a bull fight." Kurt told her.
"The point of the assignment was to find people who couldn't help but join, okay? The more people that we sing in front of, the more chances we have of getting one. Okay? It's simple mathematics." Rachel shared "which I stopped attending years ago." Puck told them "really, couldn't tell." Caroline told him as puck then threw a chip at her "no, no. Hold on. Rachel's right. How's anybody supposed to believe we can go to nationals if we don't even believe in ourselves?" Finn asked "thank you." Rachel told him, as Finn then turned looking at the band, who then began playing the beginning of we got the beat as they all began to get up to dance and sing, as Rachel got up on one of the tables and started singing.

Then as the band began to play with Finn being on drums now, everyone else danced around, except for Caroline who stopped looking around and seeing nobody was enjoying it cause one of the guys who was, was Mercedes new football player boyfriend as Britney then started singing from on the table.

Having made it back to the band they all stood together, as Caroline was by Finn "they hate it." she told him as Becki came up and threw something on Rachel as she laughed turning around and running away, spaghetti was thrown down at Puck's feet "god, no." he said as Caroline's eyes went wide "Finn!" she voiced as Jacob Ben Israel stood up "food fight!" he yelled, as everyone began throwing food at them, Finn jumped up and grabbed Caroline bringing her down onto the floor.
Back in the choir room, they all had past sauce all over them as Mr Schuester was cleaning off the piano "I thought slushees were bad but spaghetti in the eye is so much worse." Artie shared as Caroline shook her head "getting food thrown at you is definitely up there with getting pigs blood dumped on you. Mr Schuester I stopped and looked at all of there faces, they hated us!" she voiced "yeah, Mr Schue, if you are trying to break us down to rebuild us, it's working." Mike shared, walking up to him "Caroline's right, not one single person was inspired by our hot lunch jam to try out, Mr Schue." Mercedes told him "you're boyfriend liked it though so I'd say that's at least something." Caroline mentioned as Mercedes smirked at her "you saw that, huh?" she asked her as Caroline laughed "oh! I did." she told her., as Mercedes walked over to her, the two high fived.
"It's true. You guys sucked ass." a girl said in the doorway as they all looked to her "I..I'm sorry. And you are?" Rachel asked her "I'm Sugar Motta. And I have self diagnosed Asperger's, so I can pretty sure say whatever I want." Sugar told them as she walked in "I'm like a diplomats daughter." she added on "how can we help you Sugar?" Mr Schuester asked her "here's the deal. I'm awesome, and I wan tot be a big, big star. And when I saw you guys singing and dancing in the cafeteria, I thought, I'm so much better then you. Sorry, Asperger's." Sugar told them "well, great." Mr Schuester told her, putting down the garbage can as he turned to them all "you see, guys? You have inspired an audition. Good job." he told them, clapping, as he then turned around "Sugar, why don't you show us what you can do? You know, take your time. Whenever you're ready." he told her, going to find a seat.
As Sugar walked up and put her purse down on the floor "get ready to taste some sweet ear candy." she told them, turning to the piano player "hit it, hottie." she told him "oh my god." Caroline voiced, as the best to she wasn't even sure what song started to play as the girl then started to sing, very off key.

Mr Schuester and Caroline were sitting next to each other as both of their eyes were wide in shock.

Artie then said "her ears should get to park in my handicapped spot." he said as Sugar continued to sing.

She finished "holy sh..Sugar." Mr Schuester said as him and Caroline blinked "text me our rehearsal sched." Sugar told them, leaning down to grab her purse "of course." Mr Schuester said as Rachel kicked his chair "Mr Schue, stop speaking." she told him, looking to Sugar "okay. Uh, Sugar?" she asked her as Sugar looked to her "we'll be in touch." Rachel told her "thank you. Bye." Sugar told them, walking out and ruffling the piano guys hair before she fully left "okay, I think I speak for everyone when I say..never gonna happen." Rachel told them "guys, I know she was a little rough, but we have always had the policy that anyone who tries out get's in." Mr Schuester shared, looking at them all.
"You're not doing her any good sheltering Sugar from the truth, okay? High school is where you learn it's survival of the fittest. She's gonna drag the new directions down, and that's not fair for those of us who don't want to spend our lives rotting in this insignificant town. You said, the other day that you would do anything to get us to nationals, okay, and she is gonna keep us from winning that elusive crown. If anything, she's gonna kill all of our chances." Rachel shared as the bell rang.
The next day, Caroline was leaning against her locker, she had thought this year was gonna be different but instead she was left with the longing of not just love but her best friend and even though it had only been a few days she felt like she was gonna be alone again like she was freshman year cause even though she had friends, none of them were like Sam, but then the locker next to her's that had been unoccupied opened "hello, locker neighbor." Blaine said, which Caroline furrow her brows, as she leaned around her's and looked at him and he indeed was in regular clothes, but even the peaked interest in that didn't up her spirits as she sighed, closing her locker and leaning against it.
And as she did, Blaine furrowed his brows "what's wrong?" he asked her "just summer was just so great! But then the person who was my best friend, the person I could count on, the person who I.." Caroline was almost about to say love, as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath "he's just gone and I thought I could do it without him and put on a good face but it's so hard." she told him, keeping her eyes closed as Blaine looked at her, knowing exactly who she was talking about, because Kurt had shared with him over the summer his sneaky suspicion that he was sure that her and Sam had become more then just friends, so as he shut his locker, he stepped in front of her and took her hands, walking her down the hallway "where are we going?" Caroline asked him, opening her eyes "to do what we do best." he told her, making Caroline furrow her brows.
Then the two were standing outside in the courtyard, where Blaine had motioned to the band who started playing the beginning to it's not unusual by Tom Jones and as he was dancing now having yellow sunglasses on, Caroline had red one's on dancing across from him as the two smiled, Blaine then took her hand as the two hopped onto the railing and slid down it, they then began dancing again as Blaine started singing as they went down the stairs.

Then Blaine took off Caroline sunglasses and then his own as he tossed them to Kurt who caught them both.

Then the Cheerios had come out dancing behind the two, as Blaine then began walking backwards he motioned for Caroline to follow as she walked towards him.

Then Santana came up, joining the cheerios in dancing.

Then Caroline was standing on Blaine's right side while Santana was on his left as the other cheerios came in closer as they all body rolled.

Blaine sang out, as the cheerios danced away from him, Caroline and Santana went into a squat, the two then stood up again as the instrumental came in where Blaine was dancing with both Santana and Caroline, where the two spun around him switching sides, they did that one last time and as they did, Blaine then grabbed Caroline's hand again as he then began down the stairs backwards singing again.

Then Caroline spun them around and began dragging him down to the purple piano as the two of them began running around it as the cheerios came down joining them.

Then Caroline, Blaine and Santana moved off to the side as the cheerios continued going around the piano, they weren't paying attention as the three of them danced to the new directions as Blaine finished out the song.

And when the song ended, Blaine threw his arm around Caroline as everyone clapped but it soon stopped as the purple piano caught fire, in which Caroline jumped back into Blaine as he pulled her towards him as everyone watched in shock "well, I guess that's a perfect way to welcome you too, McKinley." Caroline told Blaine "yeah." Blaine told her, as the fire didn't seem to be going out anytime soon.
Sitting in the choir room the next day, Blaine had walked in with Mr Schuester "ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for glee club's newest member, Blaine Anderson." Mr Schuester told them "thanks so much, everyone. I'm so thrilled to be here. It's gonna be a great year I can feel it. We're all gonna go to nationals." Blaine shared as they all clapped except for Finn "is there a problem, guys?" Mr Schuester asked "I just want Blaine to know that we're not the warblers. You know we're not into the bells and whistles or the ball hogging, you know?" Finn asked as Blaine went up to sit next to Kurt "I'm sorry. Did I do something wrong?" he asked as he sat down.
"Well, yeah. You set a bonfire in our courtyard." Finn shared as Caroline furrowed her brows and turned to him "Finn, that wasn't him!" she voiced "she's right, that was an act of political protest." Santana told him "which leads me to the next order of business. Santana, you need to leave." Mr Schuester told her as he walked up to her "it was you and the cheerios who set fire to our piano. How could you do that?" he asked her "Mr Schue, Sue made me." Santana told him "Britney didn't do it." Mr Schuester told her "well, yeah, I was gonna help, but I didn't know, I'm a water sign, so.." Britney said as everyone just moved on, going back to Santana "you're banned from glee. Don't come back unless. you can be as loyal to this club as the rest of the people in this room." Mr Schuester told her, holding his arm out for her to leave.
"You know what? I could use a break." Santana told them as she stood up, walking out "you know, good for you, Mr Schue. It's about time we got some allegiance up in here." Mercedes told them "I said it before and I will say it again, we want to win nationals this year, we need to be united. Rachel, you had an announcement?" Mr Schuester asked her "yeah." Rachel told them, standing up "um, after pushing the envelope last year, I strongly believe that we should secure the rights to a, shall we say, less controversial show for our school musical. Wait for it..West side story." she shared "is that the one with the cats?" Britney asked "that's cats!" Caroline voiced "and it just so happens to have a lead role that showcases my talent and essence perfectly. Maria." Rachel told them.
"For which there will be open auditions, right?" Mercedes asked as Rachel sat down "cause Mercedes is feeling extremely pretty this year." Mercedes shared "Kurt, you had something, too, right?" Mr Schuester asked as Kurt stood up "right, Kurt Hummel is wading into McKinley high's shark infested political waters and running for senior class president. All right. I thank you in advance for your votes." he told them, as he sat back down "okay. So much excitement. Now, let's rehearse." Mr Schuester told them "look at what they did to us, Mr Schue. Just like these purple pianos, they ripped out our guts, threw crap all over us and burned us up." Tina shared.
"Yeah. We got hit pretty hard. But.." Mr Schuester told them, walking over to the piano on the right and hitting one of the keys "these pianos are still making music. And so are we." he shared as Caroline stood up "Mr Schuester, I may have a song that will change the mood up a bit." she shared as the piano guy walked over to the one in the middle, Caroline stepped forward onto the floor, Mr Schuester went and sat in her seat as she was facing them all as she started to sing.

She then smiled at them all and ran up the stairs, grabbing Blaine's hand and running back down them and toward's the choir room door as Tina and Mike followed her along with Britney and Artie, Mercedes and Kurt then Rachel, Finn, Puck and Mr Schuester.
In the auditorium, they all changed their outfits into dark blues one's where Caroline and on this sparkly dress as they all ran on stage she yelled "Five, six, seven, eight!" Puck was playing the guitar as Finn was dancing with Rachel, Mercedes was with Artie while Kurt was with Tina, Blaine was with Britney and Caroline was with Mike as Caroline and Blaine sang.

Then they all spun each other out as Caroline went over to Artie dancing with him as her and Blaine still sang.

Caroline then pointed to the audience with a smirk on her face as they all then ran off stage,
As Mike and Britney went back up there and were dancing, Mercedes then walked up singing as the others were her back up vocals.

Then Mercedes motioned for all of them to come back on stage as they all ran up and started dancing with her.

They all then sang as Blaine grabbed Caroline's hand and brought them to the front of the stage, the two of them were in the front as the others were behind them as they all danced.

They all then moved as Mercedes and Britney went over to the piano on the left along with Artie, Rachel, Finn, Kurt and Tina went to the back while Mike went and stood on top of the piano to the right, Blaine had dipped Caroline as the two of them stayed in the front, then they unfroze, as they all started clapping and laughing.
