Emmy stepped out of bed and lazily walked to the bathroom. It was a slow walk across the room on what felt like the millionth day that she wouldn't be able to leave the house. For the most part, however, she still tried to get up and get dressed to mimic some part of normalcy during these quarantimes.

Once she reached the bathroom, she picked up her phone that was charging next to her partners. The time flashed when she lifted it. 11:45am. This had become her normal. She had all day to do things, so why not start the day a little later?

Her partner, Daveed, was still sleeping. She figured he'd probably be up within the next 30 minutes.

Emmy set her phone back down next to his and looked up in the mirror. That was another thing about the current state of the world: Salons were closed. She had actually been going to barber shops since all she really needed was a shave, but those were closed too.

She ran her hands along the short sides of her head. It had been so long since she had been able to get it cut that the lines between her mohawk and the sides that were supposed to be shaved were blending together. She had little darks curls sprouting from the once clean shaven edges.

Emmy had been noticing this growth for the past few weeks but she was holding out to see if shops would open up soon. That hope was dwindling with every passing day and new news story. She needed to figure something out, that is, unless she wanted to grow her hair out again.

She turned in a 360 in the mirror just to see it one more time. I'll... deal with you later, she thought to herself, personifying her own hair.

She opted to take a shower first, washing her hair as well. The water was so soothing, and this was one of the few things she loved about having nothing to do. She had the freedom to take 30 minute showers and she was soaking up every minute of it.

She stepped out of the shower and reached for the nearest towel. She wrapped one around herself and one around her hair. Emmy kept the towel in her hair to dry while she moved to their shared closet. She grabbed one of Daveed's oversized t-shirts and a pair of leggings, figuring the hair could get messy.

Emmy moved back into the bathroom and sat in front of her vanity. Over the past few days, she had watched a few hair cutting videos just in case she got the courage to do it herself. What could go wrong, another thought she let out to herself even though she was still a little afraid.

From all the videos, she found out that all she really needed was a razor, some hair scissors, and either a brush or comb. She already had a brush and she acquired a razor and clippers courtesy of Daveed's side of the bathroom.

Emmy let down the towel and her hair was completely dried. "Here goes nothing," she mumbled.

She pulled up the hair on top into a ponytail so that it would be out of the way. She plugged in the razor and her hands shook as she picked up the tool.

She guessed the noise woke up Daveed because when she looked up into the mirror he was standing in the doorway.

"Hey, babe," he smiled at her, wiping the sleep from his eyes,"Whatcha doing?" he walked over to where she was sitting and wrapped his arms around her from the back.

"Cutting my hair" she said with a giggle.

"All of it?" he asked, his face slightly shocked.

"Just the sides," she laughed, "They're growing like crazy."

"Still cute though," he said, pressing a kiss to both of her temples. He then took his fingers and gave a slight massage to those same spots.

"Ooh that feels good," she relaxed into his touch, "I'm getting tired of the extra hair though. And what better time to learn to do it myself?"

"You got a point," he nodded, "I'll leave you to it." He pressed another kiss to the very top of her head and backed away.

"Whacha about to do?" Emmy asked, turning slightly in the chair.

"I don't know," he shrugged with a grin, "Going back to bed sounds good. Or maybe I'll read a book. Wait... I'll read a book in bed," he nodded in satisfaction with the idea.

Emmy erupted in laughs as she shook her head. Daveed left their bathroom and she turned back around to get to work. She picked up the razor that was still on and set it to the base of her head.

With a deep inhale, she guided the razor up and down the base of her head. She was surprised at how smooth it was going. The razor was on the lightest setting so she felt pretty confident to just let it move across her head.

She did both sides and evened them out the best she could. And they looked pretty dang good for a first timer, she thought. The only problem is she couldn't reach the back, and there was no way she was going in blind.

"Babe," she called out through the open door.

As soon as she called for him, Daveed appeared in the doorway, still in his pajamas and holding a sci fi book. "What's up?" he asked.

"I need your help," she replied, doing a 360 in the chair so he could see what she had going on.

"Oh," Daveed half laughed- half gasped at the half done haircut.

"Hey!" Emmy pretended to be offended, "I can't reach this part."

"I can help," he smiled as he walked up to her, "You did a good job on the sides though."

"Thank you baby," she said, matching his smile and handing him the razor. Their hands lingered in this exchange while their palms brushed up against each other's.

Daveed took the razor and positioned it at the back of her head.

"Wait," Emmy hesitated, "Don't mess up" she added with a giggle.

"I got you girl," Daveed smirked. He took the razor and started at the very bottom of her scalp. He took it slow and worked his way up, stopping every few second to make sure it was perfect. He worked as if he had been doing it forever, taking extreme caution with his wife's hair.

He evened out his part with hers and just like that he was all done. Daveed turned the chair around to where she was facing him so he could see. He took the brush and brushed all over, letting the straggly pieces of hair fall to the ground. Lastly, he carefully removed the ponytail holder on the top pieces of hair and brushed them to the side, just the way she liked it.

He turned her around once more so that she was facing the mirror. "Ok you can look now," he said, a look of gratification on his face like he had just unveiled a piece of art.

"Wow," Emmy said in awe, "I look like me again!"

"You look beautiful, my darling," Daveed said with an accent.

"Thank you baby," Emmy smiled and stood up to plant a kiss on his lips.

She walked closer to the mirror to see it up close. She used her hands to fluff out the top piece and applied some gel to the very edges.

"Looks just like when I'd get it done," she said in great satisfaction, "We make a good team."

"Indeed," Daveed said as he moved back behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and swayed them both side to side. "Daveed and Emmy Salon," he said with a chuckle, "D & E Salon, D & E Salon," he kept repeating it to try it out, "D& E Salon, I like it."

"What about E & D Salon?" she smirked.

"Hmm," he pondered it, "Doesn't have the same ring to it." With that he bursted out in laughs. Emmy closed her eyes to try to contain her laughter but she ultimately lost. They stood there laughing for a while, the jokes adding on to one another, causing them to forget all about the hair on the ground.
