Chapter:43

Kate couldn't believe her eyes. She rubbed her eyes to make it sure. Yes, it was James. He was running as if he was chasing someone. Realisation hit Kate. She understood why James was running at that time of the hour.

"He is the killer." Kate confirmed.

Next day when Emy woke up, she  didn't see Kate in her room. Suddenly her eyes caught the sight of the note on the table. She walked towards the table and took the piece of paper. It was from Kate.

"I am leaving. Something urgent came up. Have a great day.
-Kate."Emy read the note aloud.

She rolled her eyes and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She was startled to see her own reflection in the mirror. Her face was swelled and reddish. Her eyes were puffy. It was a total mess. A tear escaped her eyes as she thought of the current day without Sera.

"I miss you Sera." She told to herself and washed her face.

She reached school. She noticed that Leydah hadn't reached. Leydah used to come early. Her mind was filled with negative thoughts suddenly.

"No. Nothing is wrong with her. She will come soon." She told herself.

A part of her mind was still not convinced about what she stated. Sera's death had indeed affected her mind. She prayed to God to keep an eye on Leydah and to protect her from all the evil. She walked outside the class and roamed through the corridor. On her way she met Mike.

"Hey" she greeted him.

"Hey."he greeted back with a gloomy smile.

Sera was his best friend's girlfriend and his girlfriend's best friend. So she was more like a sister to him. The fact that Sera didn't exist anymore was really painful for him to accept.

"Where is Leydah?" Emy asked.

"She went to the police station with Kate and Christen." He replied.

"Why?" She enquired.

"Emy, I can't tell you. I am sorry."he answered.

"What? But why? I am not gonna tell anyone. You can trust me. And I don't think they will keep any secrets from me." She said.

"Well.... they know who the killer is."he stated.

Emy was puzzled by this answer.

"Who is it?"she queried

"It's your boyfriend, James." Mike answered

"What the hell are you saying, Mike?" She roared in disbelief.

Leydah had informed him about the chain of events that took place starting from James drinking blood to Kate seeing him chasing someone late at night. So he explained the same things to Emy too. She gasped in shock.

Emy at once understood that James was innocent and they are mistaking him for everything. She knew why he drank blood from that person. She was sure that James chased after the real murderer of Sera.

"That's not the truth. Everyone is mistaking him." She said.

"Emy, don't support him just because of the fact that he is your boyfriend. He is a vampire and he killed our Sera. He should be punished for his sin." He retorted.

"Mike, I am not supporting him just because he is my boyfriend. I am doing it because I know the truth. I know that he is a vampire, I mean he is a hybrid. I know that. And he was chasing the real killer. Don't frame this on him. He is innocent." Emy blurted out in anger and sadness.

Mike stared at her clueless.

"What the hell is a hybrid?" Mike questioned her giving her a confused look.

"Sorry Mike, I don't have time to explain everything. I need to inform James about all these. I don't want him to go to jail ." She yelled at Mike.

She ran out to find James. Mike too followed her to stop her. Emy couldn't find James but ended up finding Seth. She informed him about everything.

"Shit! I think everything is going out of our hands." Seth stated.

"We need to make a move faster." Emy replied.

"Are you implying that I should disclose everything to them?" Seth asked.

"I guess you need to do that." She agreed.

They ran at their maximum speed to search him and get him out of the school before the police came. But they couldn't find him anywhere. They took a break from their run and rested in front of the chairs that were places in front of the principal's room. Just then they heard some noises inside the room. Both of them recognised a voice among them.

"James?!!" Both of them asked each other shocked.

Emy and Seth barged into the room.James was in there with the police. Kate, Leydah and Christen were standing beside them too.

"What's going on in here?" Emy demanded eyeing her friends.

"Emerald Haverford, out. Now." The principal ordered her.

" I am sorry, Sir. But I can't do it until I know why my boyfriend is being questioned by the police just by some dumb statements given by three high school kids." Emy retorted glaring at Kate, Leydah and Christen.

"Emerald, if you don't leave the room right now, you will be suspended from the school." The principal reminded her.

" I don't give a shit, Sir. I wanna know the answer." She yelled.

The principal hit on the table with a loud thud and commanded her to leave the room but she stayed without caring.

The police officer was annoyed and he replied,

"Miss Emerald Haverford, I am questioning him because Miss Leydah Burns has witnessed Mr James Stevenson injuring a person. Unfortunately Mr Stevenson has admitted his crime. So I am taking him to the police station for further enquiry."

Emy stared at James in disbelief.

"Why did you admit it?" Emy asked James.

"I did it, Emy. So I must admit my mistake. After all I am a blood sucking monster." James replied wiping away the tears that escaped his eyes.

This flared up the rage that she had been suppressing until now.

"Sir,if what he committed is a mistake,then take me along with him. I was there with him the whole time." Seth said to the police officer.

He arched an eyebrow and said,
"Miss, why didn't you mention to me that this young man was there with Mr Stevenson?"

Kate glanced at Leydah suddenly in confusion.

"No,he wasn't there. I didn't see him." Leydah replied.

The policeman was puzzled and glanced at both Leydah and Seth.

James understood something was not right about this. Seth was with him and he knew if Leydah saw him she must have seen Seth too. Emy didn't care about all these. All she wanted was to free James from this huge misunderstanding. She glanced at Leydah and said,

" If you are doubting James just because of the fact that he is a vampire, then you should doubt her too. She too is a vampire." Emy shouted pointing her index finger at Kate.

Kate stared at Emy in pain. She never thought Emy would betray her by spilling her secrets.

Leydah, Christen, the police officer and the principal glanced at Kate to verify if anything that Emy muttered was true. Kate stood silent and that act of hers proved them that Emy was right. Seth glared at Kate in anger for moving against his brother.

"Kate, are you a vampire?" Leydah asked in disbelief.

"Yes." Kate replied without any option.
