"You did what?!" the car lurched as Megan slammed her foot on the brakes. "Hazel, you can't do that!"

"I know that! They're just so-!" I couldn't find a word to describe the two girls who'd witnessed my outburst this morning. I'd gotten a call a few hours later and was fortunate enough to leave before Grace's English class. English class is so very useless, of course it's the only one where Grace has me beaten. She had to excel at the one academic class I saw no point in.

"Hazel, if you would stop acting like a god damn agent all the time, you could have been friends with them instead of dislocating someone's arm!"

"I don't want to be friends with them!" I seethed, letting a little more of my anger escape while in the presence of the only person I ever opened up to. I mean, I've talked to my Mentor before, but she is different... And Alexa is just... Alexa.

"Hazel! Oh my god! I love you, but you have issues!" Megan snapped at me.

"Me?! They're the ones who are bothering me! I tried to explain to Grace that I am not trying to be her enemy, but she just gets pissed at me and I don't fucking get it! She isn't supposed to be so thick!" I retorted sharply, clenching my jaw.

"The N.S. has screwed you up, Hazel. Forget everything they tell you. It doesn't matter. Hiding doesn't matter" she was about to go on one of her irritating heart-to-hearts, so I stopped her.

"You're blind"

"So what if I am! Hazel, I'm happy! My scars don't bother me, can you say the same?" she looked at me with gentle eyes. I love her, don't get me wrong, but she is so... She isn't stupid, and god knows she is as knowledgeable as I am about the state we live in... But she is.... I don't get it... She talks like she doesn't know that what I'm doing is what I have to do.

"Well?" I realize she is looking at me expectantly. I lift an eyebrow. "You were zoning out again" she sighed "I asked you if you like her"

"Not at all, Megan, you're an idiot for saying that" I instantly defended. Grace is irritating, immature, and too believable to be anything to revisit.

"You like her" Megan nodded to herself, a victorious smile on her face. I knew that look all too well. "You are just too Hazel to figure it out"

"I don't like her, Megan. I don't, I won't, I can't, I will never" I became more and more irritated with each repetition. Curse Grace for making me so angry earlier and more for making me talk about her now.

"You're going to fall for her and before you know it you're going to figure out that you're in love with her and it is going to break your little heart. Poor Grace will have to put up with your sexual frustration and stubbornness until then. You're going to end up pulling an Alexa"

"Alexa is a complete bitch and I will never do what she did to anyone, even Grace or her idiot pet"

"Did the pet ask you out?"

"Yes"

"Girl, you got it bad" Megan laughed "you're totally jealous"

"I am totally going to tell Riley who you're-"

"Please, bae, Riley was the first to know. She was in the same year-different school sit. with her husband. She's cool with it. She is our counselor, just go talk to her"

"Mentor. She is my mentor. She teaches me how to survive and utilize my abilities. She is not entitled to know about my personal life- which Grace is not a part of! I'm not gay, and I'm not in any way attracted to her"
