Did you know that Ilvermorny's history is connected to the Appalachian Trail, a famous footpath that spans over 2180 miles from Georgia to Maine? Many No-Maj hikers claim to have spotted Ilvermorny Castle from the trail, but it always disappears behind a thick mist and powerful enchantments when they try to reach it. As a result, they gave it names like "The Castle Hidden In The Mist", "The Castle In The Sky" and "The Castle Above The Clouds". Interestingly, the school loved these names and decided to keep them. The trail offers a beautiful green pathway through a chain of mountains and hills.

The Massachusetts section of the Appalachian Trail spans 90 miles, running from Mount Everett in the south to Mount Greylock in the north. It is a popular destination for long-distance and day hikers alike, offering scenic routes for exercise and access to nearby towns like North Adams, Williamstown, and Pittsfield. The trail can be accessed from the Lake Gate, Main Gate, or River Gate, and is marked by a white blaze. The Hiking Club occasionally leads group hikes on weekends, and interested students can contact Professor Goode for more information. However, it is strongly advised to never hike alone and to stick to the designated path. Only one student has attempted to hike the entire trail to get to school and was sorted into Thunderbird for their bravery and perseverance. The beauty of the trail and surrounding nature must be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
